Too bad the Dr. Phillips boys couldnt be at the game.
November 6th, 2010 at 4:12 PM ^
like Denard throwing for 300 yards and Tate throwing for almost another 100.
November 6th, 2010 at 4:14 PM ^
Can you imagine Roy in the slot with Arnett and Hemingway on the outside?
Frightening.

Any recruits that were at the game and did not commit instantly need counseling.

HAIL YES!!!! GO BLUE!!!!!!!
November 6th, 2010 at 4:13 PM ^
The thing that was missing was consistency by the offense against a quality big ten defense.
The win is huge, but the establishing of an identity of making plays and scoring points in a way that scares the hell out of every opponent is rapidly being established.
Now let's see that continue to build these last 4 games. In my mind, that is every bit as important as the final w-l. Rich's team answered the bell today.
If that continues, it is impossible to see how Mr. Brandon could stop the evolution of this offense in mid-stream, regardless of the final record.
Go Blue!!

But not a great one....
And I guess at this point thats all you can ask for.
November 6th, 2010 at 4:18 PM ^
Wow, did you have this post ready to past in or something? This tells me that you really don't understand the complexity of the situation if you think one win changes everything. I am very happy for the team for this win, I am very happy for the team that they get to go to a bowl game. If this is the start of a continual upward trend, I am happy for that also. But at this stage, right now, this doesn't change my mind that RR is an inadequate leader and manager for a program, culture, institution of this stature. If he proves me wrong, then great!
November 6th, 2010 at 4:31 PM ^
Fuck you. Take that shit and go make another thread. HOW BOUT THAT RICHROD!!! go blue

Classy response post.

People are just miserable i guess. And this is football. Go play soccer if you dont like it. Do you bitch about people standing at games too?
November 6th, 2010 at 9:42 PM ^
Yeah! Soccer players don't have fun or enjoy themselves! And are all miserable people? And don't play a game involving a ball?
Your stupidity confuses me.
November 6th, 2010 at 4:20 PM ^
RichRod is so good, he can win without a defense/special teams!
I love this team, their character - everything! GO BLUE!
November 6th, 2010 at 4:20 PM ^
You know if we didn't give up like 19 pts off turnovers, we win this game comfortably.. Denard also missed some big time reads where he could of ran for a first down on 3rd and shorts and the end of the first half..
Ive never yelled so loud in my basement ever, can barely speak.. Sucks i had to sell the tickets for this game, but what a game
November 6th, 2010 at 4:22 PM ^
Love the win , love this team and love that extra practice time that we get.
Here's to getting over the hump .( hoping )

roughly that much
November 6th, 2010 at 4:22 PM ^
Ok, I understand that everything is ultimately on the head coach, but here's my take. You have an offense that is just crazy good, yes they make mistakes some times, but they're pretty young still. They're scoring like 30 points per game, 67 in this one, and yet I still hear people say, we can't win in the big ten with this gimicky offense. Really? If we had even an average defense, we'd be undefeated. Our problems are on defense. That being said, today, despite giving up 65 points, and a boat load of yards, they did have some really good stops. Especailly that last one. I guess we need to watch them for the rest of the season. Either way, keep RR, because this offense is the way to go. If our defense doesn't improve, maybe bring in a different defensive staff, but for the love of god, don't get rid of RR. Who says we can't recruit the "smaller" faster guys to fill our offense, and have traditional big ten "bigger" guys for our defense? I haven't seen that rule, so if it exists, someone please provide a link.
November 6th, 2010 at 4:25 PM ^
Not to take anything away from any of the players, but
Mike Martin!
blast, well....
David Molk!
crap
The Team, The Team, The team!

And Roundtree in regulation and Hemingway in OT
November 6th, 2010 at 4:26 PM ^
That was a great victory for this program, obviously the offense is where it needs to be, if only we could have beat that walk on qb last week!!! Either way, looks like we need to get our bowling shoes out of the bag!! GO BLUE!
November 6th, 2010 at 4:30 PM ^
I think he went for a field goal on 4th and 3 knowing we don't have a kicker. I think he is a great coordinator but I question his coaching ability. I think EVERYONE including Tony Gibson on the D should be fired. Brandon should get out the check book bring in a D guru and tell him to hire whoever he wants, and RR is not allowed to have any say on that side of the ball.
I also think he has had a tough time trying to bring Michigan into the future.
November 6th, 2010 at 4:37 PM ^
I'm sorry, but I still have question RR's decision making. When he decided to kick on the 4 and 3, I wanted to reach through my TV and strangle him. I mean, if you don't make it, you still give up the same yardage as a missed FG, and you pretty much know that they are not going to make the FG. If you make it, it's 1st down and a good chance of pushing it in after a few more plays and go up by 2 TD's.
November 6th, 2010 at 4:46 PM ^
Must not know much about confidence. How do you think he is going to get better if we dont attempt a fg when the situation calls for it? The d just held them to 3 and out twice i believe. Who makes their first 5 foot putt to save par? Im sure you have never played any sports. You have to be in that situation to ever get better. You people crack me up. If all you come away from that game with is that. I feel sorry for you as you are a miserable human being. Great win! Go blue!!!
November 6th, 2010 at 4:48 PM ^
FWIW Our kicker had made his previous two FG (going back to the PSU game). If successful it would have put us up 10 points. What I didn't like was the call on 3rd down.
November 6th, 2010 at 4:53 PM ^
I agree with his decision as we need to build uo the freshman kicker just like we need to build up the freshman defense. Your point on confidence, I think, is where RR's head was at.
November 6th, 2010 at 4:41 PM ^
Despite the fact that the defense gave up 65 points and a lot of yards I like how we were able to have so many turnovers and still win. Hat's off to Tate for overcoming a blunder and keeping us in the game.
November 6th, 2010 at 5:00 PM ^
Yeah when you are coaching for your life it might not be the best time to try and build confidence in a sub par kicker.
It was a tricky kick at an angle. It was the wrong decision.
Also yes I do focas on that because that was a potential turning point for the entire game and who knows if we would have had to go through all that to pull out and win by the skin of our ass.
November 6th, 2010 at 5:06 PM ^
I dont care Greg Rob has to go.. what it takes u 5 to 6 games to make adjustments u allow 50+ points he sucks....personally I think he's a double secret agent for the buckeyes
November 6th, 2010 at 7:13 PM ^
I'm not a "hater" . . . I've always liked the guy and wanted him to succeed, However, in recent weeks I've lost some faith that he can be a championship head coach. Today is a step in the right direction. This was the kind of game that RR needed to start winning.. This alone doesn't allay all my fears. Our defense is in disarray, as are our special teams. But today we were able to overcome it. I want to see more positives next week, but this is a start.
November 6th, 2010 at 9:27 PM ^
OP, Rodfather, and mtzlblk are basically coming out and proclaiming themselves Jugaloos or whatever weird word Brian called State fans after the MSU game. You are only interested in making noise and trying to prove yourself right and shoving things in the face of others. Get over yourself and get a clue.
Dave Brandon has said repeatedly that there are multiple factors going into his evaluations of all coaches. Thinking that making literally one more play than the opposition provides a definitive answer to the question of the future direction of this program is simple minded and daft.
Everything we thought we knew about this team after last week is still true. They have a hell of an offense that is just beginning to reach its potential. Where it could go is truly scary for the rest of the Big Ten. The defense is still incredibly, incredibly bad. They eye test from the game tells me that Roh, Ezeh, and Fitzgerald were significant upgrades at the positions they played today. It's a big red flag that this only happened in game 9 and appears to have been initiated by the players themselves. This team is tough and seems to be high on the intangibles. They battle and don't give up and they are easy to root for.
Before this game, I was probably in the fire the whole staff camp. Tonight, I lean towards keeping Rodriguez with an entirely new defense staff choosen with input from minds other than Rodriguez's alone.
But, to come off like the OP did when the difference in the game was the result of a couple two point conversions is just being a douche.
November 6th, 2010 at 9:45 PM ^
Well said.
Hey OP, go take a look at the "GERG's super bowl rings" thread. And then, like, read a book or something.
November 7th, 2010 at 12:04 AM ^
No such thing as a "quality win" when you give up 65 points. Sorry.
November 11th, 2010 at 10:01 PM ^
To be truthful, I'm still very indifferent on RR. I was his biggest fan until the Penn State game. Problem being, when you have 2 weeks to prepare for a bad PSU team and you get worked like that, even those of my faith will begin to seriously question. Yes, I am very happy to be going bowling again. However, I am extremely concerned because of our defense. Next season OSU, Iowa, and Wisky will be down because of significant losses in regards to seniors. Next year is/was supposed to be our breakout year where we just roll the Big Ten. I don't see that happening anymore because of RR's troubles recruiting defense. So....at this time I remain indifferent and frustrated. I know that changing systems again would be a very bad move. At the same time, keeping him is taking a gamble that he will land some recruits in the secondary.
To go back to the OP: I wouldn't go around parading our bowl game just yet...yes we beat Illinois, but it took us 3 OT's and we wouldn't have stopped them if Ron Zook himself would have suited up. I would classify last Saturday's win as a Pyrrhic Victory. Look it up, it's about as perfect of a definition for last week as I can find.
