I wonder how many points the defense was truly worth according to The Mathlete. 18 points came off of 5 offensive turnovers, which is not bad at all. If the offense is solely responsible for these point swings, then the defense allowed 47 points, of which many (20+) were aided by good field position that the Illini had in overtime and due to poor kickoff coverage. For the team to allow under 30 points, improved kickoff/punt coverage and taking care of the ball may be enough for this defense to hold opponents to under 30 points... on average.

that I would go that far, but wow. Don't know what to think of the illini, but I did actually think the d looked... better? Avery looked good. Talbott the smaller had a good stop on special teams, Vinopal had a few good plays. Noticed Cam had a couple good plays. Without 5 t.o.'s and a little better consistency (first year starter, can't knock denard for that too much), this game wouldn't have been close.

I said last december that 6 wins was what RR needed.  In my mind, and the way the offense plays, he's just secured his job for the next two years.  The question is what happens to GERG.  I can't really say that I'd be suprised if he was fired, but I wouldn't be upset if he was kept.  These young players will get better.  Both Gordons are showing promise, Avery had a decent game (relatively speaking).  We need players.  We need to beat down that recruiting trail and start pulling some S.E.C. bullshite.

I would be furious if GERG were here next year. There is nothing, not one single thing, that accrues to his credit this year, other than his hair remaining remarkable. He took an inexperienced, outmanned  and out talented team and did nothing to change that. Not one game have we played above our abilities, and without exception, our fundamentals are awful. His game management is poor, and he clearly lacks the confidence of RR.

...you make a good point in that GERG does not control the staff. If we were to hire anyone (perhaps other than Casteel who is familiar with many of the position coaches but may still want to bring some guys in ) they are going to want to bring their own staff.

GERG may not be the right fit here but his two Superbowls identify that he can scheme with talent.

This offense is amazing, the defense and FG's are bad, and that's not RR's fault

RR has done a phenomenal job recruiting athletes for the team at least on offense...Roundtree, Forcier, Robinson, and the rest

I guess he has another year, I guess his job is safe for now

Wait, we played today? I thought we were forefitting every game except for Purdue the rest of the year and that was our only possible win to get us to bowl eligibility. Weird.

I'm very happy about the win, particularly since I work at Illinois.  However, a triple overtime win over a 5-3 Illinois team isn't the irrefutable evidence that RR is the final solution.

Just celebrate and save the "I told you so" posts for a more convincing time.  Today is a good day.

they are wizards. Gerg should get another year he D is very young and they played hard today at the end for sure, congrats to RR and these boys. They deserve a bowl and next year will be even better.

That was a wonderful win, and I couldn't be happier that the team is going bowling, but I'm sure RR haters will point to OMG 67-65 WTF as a negative. Awesome win, proves what the team can do, defense still needs work, said defense also proved it can make stops. This will make December so much better.

I screamed and yelled so many profanities today but in the end I'm just glad we pulled it out.  So happy for an embattled team to have something positive happen for a change.  Go Blue !!

I'm proud of the team, happy for the players, and happy for the win.  But does one win change my mind about RR? No it doesn't Mgoliteral.  He can put up points, but he cannot stop anybody.

I'd like to give a pat on the back to Demens, Avery, Vinopal.  Those 3 guys I think played above themselves today.  For all their lack of experience, they made some key  plays.

It's clear that RR is an offensive mind the likes of which we've never seen at M and probably will never see again after he's done here.

If we can just get the defense to be serviceable, either with a new coordinator next year or with more expeience and talent at the position, this will be a fun team to watch.

I love this fuckin offense...D needs work but I'll reserve those thoughts for later in the week.

Beat Purdue and hopefully squeeze one past Wisconsin or OSU. We prett much said 7-8 wins right? Michigans going to end up around there, maybe even 1 more if they can spank a MAC team in the bowl game LoL.
