Alabama QB in waiting close to "7 Figures" in NIL Endorsements

Submitted by itauditbill on July 21st, 2021 at 9:59 AM

So saw this article on ESPN: https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/31849917/alabama-qb-bryce-young-approaching-1m-endorsement-deals-says-head-coach-nick-saban

According to Saban:

Saban said the total compensation is "almost seven figures." "And it's like, the guy hasn't even played yet," Saban said, according to The Athletic. "But that's because of our brand."

At least it's out in the open now. Glad the young man is getting paid. Things aren't going to change any time soon however. The rich get richer!

Dude.  You've been here 11 freaking years.   And for 11 years you've seen news like this get posted within minutes of going public - not days.

I saw it yesterday hit my Twitter feed, finished up something I was working on, and thought "hey, this would be a good post" but by the time I got back to the site it was already up.

PSA - If you're posting Michigan news and it's older than 10 minutes, check the site first - it's probably already there.  Non-Michigan news you sometimes get a half and hour.

I am all for good-natured ribbing of the OP.  I'm on the fence about whether or not he deserves to be down voted.  One thing I'm certainly not, though, is angry.  What harm did this cause this blog or any of us personally?

Other than the lurkers, we're all on the same side.

First off, this was already posted at least a day ago.

Are you?  Why?  As you said, he hasn’t done anything except prove he’s good at high school football.  Do you think people senselessly throwing money at a football player who hasn’t even played a snap in college is the right message to send to the 99.9% of players that won’t make it?  This new protocol will end up hurting way more people than it helps.

Silly comment all around.

Advertising isn't "senseless." It generates business. You don't need to know precisely how good a player is to know whether there is significant commercial value in his or her endorsement. Young is the presumed starting quarterback for a football team that draws massive viewership. It makes plenty of sense to pay him to use his identity commercially for advertising purposes.

It's hard to tell what you even mean when you imply that it is not the "right message" to send to other players. What message is being sent? That there is a lot of opportunity in being among the best at what you do? I'm pretty sure people begin to understand this message at a very young age, and I'm having a hard time understanding why it's a bad message to send.
