Afternoon Harbaugh Update (positive news)

Meaningful Portion:

According to sources I have spoken to this afternoon, the folks in Ann Arbor do not believe they are out on Harbaugh and are not prepared to move on to any sort of Plan B.
From what I have been told, U of M has lined up everything that Harbaugh’s people have requested to date including:
1) The money.
2) A say in the hiring of the permanent Athletic Director once Jim Hackett steps aside.
3) Administrative control.
4) Complete autonomy regarding disciplinary actions of players.
There has been no definitive response to U of M’s generous offer from the Harbaugh camp as of this writing which has led to a disagreement inside the Michigan Athletic Department. There is some internal debate regarding whether or not to give Harbaugh a deadline to make a decision.
Last night at the Michigan Football Bust in Livonia a meeting took place among the university’s mega donors and the prevailing thought was the odds of landing Harbaugh was still very good. Mainly because of the crap load of money they have earmarked to get the prodigal son to return to A2.
Sources also indicated to me that Hackett has played this perfectly with the [Jack] Harbaugh camp and there is nothing more he could do in his efforts to land Jim.
The big question now is whether or not to issue an ultimatum and how Jim would react to that potential “calling of the clock.” (Jeff Moss, Detroit Sports Rag)

Giving Harbaugh an ultimatum would not be smart. The only bonus of signing a coach today as opposed to the end of the month is a 3 week head start on filling out the recruiting class. With an expected class of around 16 recruits that's not that big of a deal. Getting the right coach, one who can actually develop players, is much more important going forward than this one small recruiting class.

I can't decide if I like the deadline idea.  I feel like it would make it seem like Michigan is pressuring him.  He knows when Michigan needs to know by, and he doesn't seem like the type of person to string someone along.  If Michigan is giving him what he wants, then he should know whether or not he wants to coach.

This is dumb. The obvious play is to ask JH when UM could reasonably expect a decision. He will be reasonable because we have extended the courtesy to him and relieved some of the stress that would come with the ultimatum. This is an easy way to inform yourself of a timeline to work toward and plot backup plans.

"It's still there, as far I can see. Are you on a mobile device?

I'll check it for formatting issues and things like that. Sometimes, people leave open tags in HTML and it effs up a thread, or bad video code...things of that nature. If there's anything to be found, I'll try to fix it this evening."

Thank you sir - all good now!

or some such.

Is this irregular?

Possible red flag.

I just saw this thread, and is it ok to say that I love my kids AND I want Harbaugh to be the next coach?

I'm still in the camp that he's not coming (mostly because I don't want to get my hopes up and then be crushed), but shit, if there's still a chance, might as well go balls to the wall and leave everything on the table.

Sounds like Hackett is doing everything he can. All we can ask for with regards to landing Harbaugh.

We just need to step back and let Hackett operate.  From what I can see, he is executing a master-plan with precision.

I am sure he has dealt with attracting and signing talent before, and will know exactly how to seal this deal if it is possible.

Warning: after the last seven years, I may be delusional and incapable of stringing coherent thoughts together.

If the Atlanta Falcons job becomes available, I fear the job might be too tempting for JH to turn down if he still has his heart in the NFL. Their offense is established and only need an infusion of talent on the defense. Harbaugh could step in and be a playoff contender day 1.

Try to trade Jim where he does not want to go, like Jacksonville. He would definitely jump the NFL shift and be the next coach at Michigan. If the Raiders, any of the two NY teams or the Falcons offer Jim the coaching job, he may accept! But if he is tired of dealing with NFL players then he will come and coach at  Michigan for a while!

Don't issue an ultimatum until after his last game (12/28) if at all (I wouldn't at all). Pursue plans B and C as risk mitigating steps, but never rule out success for plan A until you're sure plan A is dead. After 12/28 there will still be time to get a good plan B coach. The REGRET of not getting Harbaugh exceeds the risk associated with B and C "at least given the comments we have seen here on MGB".

The Maryland loss really fucked everything up - most especially the timeline. I think Brady knew it too, which is why is he was so incredibly emotional after the loss.

We would still be waiting for hackett to fire Brady Hoke and none of this Harbaugh sensationalism would be eating away at our guts like it currently is.

If only Brady could have beat maryland, we wouldnt be going through what we are right now.

I find this logic silly. Even if Michigan were going to a bowl game EVERYONE wih half a brain would know that Hoke would soon be gone, and Michigan would be actively looking for a new coach. EVERYONE.

The idea only has merit if there was legitimate uncertainty about Hoke's fate, but there wasn't. Whether he was officially gone or gone in a month, he was still GONE.

I agree, however, there would at least be a bowl game to deflect some our attention as opposed to full on Harbaugh talk as it is now. A lot more attention on Harbaugh and the search because we aren't bowling.

If JH is looking at NFL - he has alot of pressure as well, because almost the entire Mich fanbase wants him here.
