AA.com article on John Pollack & Michigan Stadium, Brock Mealer & Denard Robinson

Submitted by jcgary on

I saw this article on annarbor.com and thought I would pass it on to you.  John Pollack was a founder of the Save the Big House and they interviewed him to see what he has to say now that it was done.

Then the next part of the article is about Brock Mealer and I didn't realize he is currently enrolled at Ohio State for a graduate degree but he had a great quote

"I figure if I can get two degrees from Ohio State, it might be close to Elliott’s undergraduate degree"

And the last part was comparing Denard to Pat White.

Anyway here is the link, enjoy:

Nice to see that Pollack and reality still have not met.  Amazing that he is still spinning a web of lies about the finances of the stadium.

he's still making such a big deal out of this.  Everyone I've heard from thinks the stadium is better and louder than ever.  It hasn't really impacted any of the surrounding areas negatively, the outer facade is much nicer to look at, and overall, the experience seems to be a better one for the fans.

I guess when you're the captain of a sinking ship, and you're the only one left on board, you hold on to that f***er as tight as you can and ride it to the bottom?

When I first heard about the stadium renovation and luxury boxes, I was very much a gainst them. But I love the way the stadium looks and was sold as soon as they put the virtual video up. I love all the brick now covering the bleachers that you could see before, and would take the luxury type seats a million times over the old press box.

Its louder, it was done very classy, everyone is getting concessions and to the bathroom quicker (at UConn the people behind us left at haltime to get snacks, and made it back before the second half started).  I am man enough to admit I was very wrong when I thought this wasn't a good idea (although, to my defense, my freshman year was the year of the Halo). this guy needs to admit he was wrong and move on.

“If you take out seat-license fees, the whole financial model collapses,” he said. “And what did the average fan get in return? A quarter-inch. It’s not even worth repainting the numbers.”

Why would you take out seat-license fees? Initiating those fees was the key step in financing the stadium, just like it is for almost every new NFL stadium. This guy is an idiot.

Can the completion of the renovations signal the end of the Jon Pollack articles? If you think about it, he's no different than any of us, except he put up a website and owns a fax machine.

Thing is, this dude lost. I'll admit, I was initially skeptical when the idea for luxury boxes was released. I warmed up to the idea, and after Saturday, I'm sorry I ever questioned it. The stadium is beautiful. I've been going to games for over 30 years now, and I loved the way the stadium was before, but that doesn't mean that the renovations are anything less than spectacular.

Actually, one of the things I thought was how well they improved everything without making it feel like a completely professional stadium. Not sure how everyone else feels, but that was my take on it.

If "The Hero of Tiananmen Square" is so opposed to money and corporatism in college athletics, why doesn't he just go become a fan of a D-II or D-III team?  I bet when we get our awesome new HD scoreboards in the next year or two, he will protest that as well.

I think the stadium looks awesome and is still the spectacle that it always has been.  The bigger house is amazing, and knowing that each week we have a chance to break the attendance record is so amazing.  Recruits that want to play in front of a big crowd, what are you waiting for?

John Pollack attended STANFORD UNIVERSITY, not the University of Michigan, yet he presumes to lecture the entire UM community on what the proper architectural form of Michigan Stadium is. Fuck him and the rusting Ford Pinto he rode in on.
