5* OSU DB Tyreke Johnson in the Transfer Portal
No idea if he has any interest, but maybe Clink can get a quick win right out of the gate. Crefit questions abound, coming from OSU, but would maybe open some eyes if our biggest rivals credits wont transfer directly to Michigan. Anyway, former 5* DBs are always welcome, even former Buckeyes!

We can at least celebrate O$U losing a 5 star.
"Anyway, former 5* DBs are always welcome, even former Buckeyes!"
Especially former Buckeyes.
whats sad is that they have so much talent that 5 stars have to jump ship for playing time
I'm going to classify this as unlikely. The only mention of Tyreke Johnson on this site is a half-sentence blurb at the tail end of a 2016 recruiting round-up when he was still a rising junior. According to 247, Chris Partridge was his primary recruiter.
His online classes would never transfer.
If he’s leaving, that likely means there is someone even better in front of him. And no, he won’t come here. Even OSU transfer portal players seem to have more loyalty than former Michigan coaches.
Got any coaches in mind?
Is that Coach Marcus Brutus?
I just read about Brutus to my kids. Et tu Mattis has a ring to it.
I'd take him back RIGHT NOW to replace Shaun Nua.
Nah, he's kind of old and isn't suited to coach against offenses today. OSU does it mostly on talent defensively - did you see the last National Championship game?
Does he actually coach anymore? Combs called the defense, Larry Johnson coaches the D-line. I'm not sure if he does anything.
Is that Assface McBenedict?
The kid was buried on their DB depth chart and has seen zilch playing time and keep in mind, their DB was putrid last year. By far and away their worst position group. They got drilled by several teams last year - especially Indiana and Alabama. Why the hell would we be interested in a player that played behind players that SUCKED ? Because he was a 5-star in HIGH SCHOOL ? Give me a break.
You are right but our CB group also suck. We made shitass MSU look like the #1 pass attack in the country. We need more bullets in the chamber at CB. I would happily take him.
it's a sign of how terrible our DB room (and god forbid something happens to Germon Green) is that anyone with a shred of talent at any level should be considered......and this isn't our worse position group on defense either.....
What do you consider our worst position group on defense? ?
Has to be NT/DT. We have Hinton and Smith as our only hope at having a running stuffing NT that can consistently hold ground against double teams. We seem to desperately be looking for any 320+ lb DT we can get in the portal. If your interior DL is weak against the run in a 3-4 D the opposing team will kill is without even needing to attempt a pass. Every game will feel like we are playing Wisconsin.
Their DBs were putrid? For OSU's level maybe. He'd probably start as CB if he came to Michigan. MSU threw for fewer than 200 yards against them last year.
i would love for him to go to michigan because he hasn't been able to sniff the field in 3 going on 4 years
At least it's gratifying to see TOSU whiffs on some of their top recruits, just like we do. I just wish it happened more often.
i'd be interested in seeing a whiff comparison between osu and u-m. osu definitely has high ranking busts. and/or high ranking under performers. it's just, osu has 5 kids per class ranked in that stratosphere, and michigan only has one every few years.
Well that may be true but there is no need to be arrogant about it. And it is much more fun to be a fan of the forlorn team so that we can kvetch all day. You should try it some time. Please?
I'd be arrogant about it too
It's cool to be arrogant about matters in which you have zero influence!
1988-2000
been there, done that.
Was hoping Tyreke would finally break out this year to show production to match his potential. Obviously it's not his true potential, getting passed up by underclassmen who were ranked lower as recruits.
He may have been a 5* in his recruitment, but he's probably not any better than a 3.5* at this point.
I knew there was a reason.
If that's the case he is probably looking to a smaller program than Michigan. Maybe he'll go to somewhere like the MAC.
You mean like those QB's that go to the NFL?
what do you trust more, osu's db evaluation or its qb evaluation?
I must be missing something with the regular "OSU QBs in the NFL" talk that's seems to be a constant on this board. Those QBs - that some are constantly slamming - have been kicking our asses for the better part of 20 years now. Both UM and OSU play in CF - not the NFL, We even have a former successful NFL QB as head coach that can't figure out how to beat them - hell, lately how to keep the game close against a team with QBs that flop in the NFL
it's dumb. as if, like, mike tomczak has anything to do with justin fields.
Eastern was having trouble getting Purdue credits to transfer. OSU credits would be even i harder, I imagine
Eastern only had trouble because his major was something Michigan doesn't offer. Other than for a reason like that, coming from another Big Ten school should make it fairly easy to get past admissions. Even OSU.
Given his class, he's probably graduated so transferring credits won't matter.
Even if he's not, it's not like OSU is some joke of an academic institution. Because Michigan and Northwestern are midwestern Ivies, we tend to forget that pretty much all B1G schools are excellent institutions (except Nebraska). You mention Purdue, but I'm willing to bet OSU is a better school for pretty much everything except engineering (and they still have a pretty good engineering school).
Michigan can be a bit ridiculous when it comes to transferring credits. It has little to do with the quality of the school and more to do with the inflexibility of the admissions office. Some schools will take credits for classes they don't offer and count them toward something that's "close enough." For example, if you took a course called "Keynesian Economics," some schools might just transfer it in as "Economics" or "20th Century Economics" or whatever they offer that can fit. Michigan won't do this for some reason.
Big Schools Rankings:
Tier 1) Northwestern
Tier 2) Michigan
Tier 3) Illinois, Purdue, Michigan St, Ohio St, Rutgers, Penn St., Maryland, Indiana
Tier 4) Iowa
Tier 5) Nebraska
You forgot Minnesota. Not to mention Wisconsin ... they’ll be extra pissed that you didn’t think of them, since they’re one of our key rivals and all.... ;-p
If I was going to kick two schools out of the B1G, I have to admit it wouldn't be Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Iowa should be higher than MSU and Purdue.
That's silly. It entirely depends on your major. If you're majoring in journalism? Yeah, Northwestern is probably the place to go. Creative writing? Iowa has everyone beat. Also, your tier 3 and 4 are pretty much all better than any SEC schools (Vanderbilt has a reputation, but I'd bet all of those exceed it in terms of research, available programs, and alumni influence).
If you insist on ranking them, there are only three tiers: 1) Michigan an NU 2) Everyone else but Nebraska 3) Nebraska.
But, that comes with the caveat that your program is everything. If you want to specialize in optimizing cardboard boxes, MSU is the best school in the B1G (and maybe the country) for you. Maybe even Nebraska has something they're good at.
Odds of me having an orgy with the Swedish Bikini team in the 90's might be better than an OSU player transferring to Michigan. Their fan base would pepper the family's mailbox with daily death threats. Much easier to go some other university than a 20 year old to have to deal with that.
Any potential courting of him by our staff likely won’t last much longer than you would have with the bikini team.
I legit thought for a moment I was about to learn a fancy new word: "crefit".
Covfefe would like to have a word with you.
Considering how bad the osu secondary was last year and he still couldn’t get on the field...no thanks.
I’d still take the OSU secondary over our own last year...
I’m not so sure. Osu had a pretty good front seven to help their DB’s out, yet they still sucked. Other than the 4th quarter against Minnesota, I don’t remember our guys getting very much pressure. Maybe our DB’s would’ve played better if they were able to get as much pressure as OSU’s front. Maybe not.
