#22 in latest Coaches poll
Well I see that this once again proves that no one really pays attention this early in the year...
lil Bro checks in @ #23 and the Cornhuskers received a `1st place vote while coming in at #7

Thus far, they have been the most impressive team in the B12 and methinks this could be their year.

I wouldn't be suprised if that no. 1 vote for Nebraska is from Steve Sarkisian.

As long as next year isn't their year. I'd like them to get a rude welcome into the big ten...much like PSU did in 1993.

That would be the ultimate slap in the face to the Big 12, take their trophy and leave!

Is Jake Locker not the most overrated college QB you've seen in years? For the past 2 seasons it's been Jake Locker Heisman, Jake Locker #1 overall pick in NFL draft.
Name me one big game he's had. Even the USC win last year was an ok performance. I can't remember a more overrated QB.
20% passing??!!

No offense intended, but I'll trust the NFL scouts on this one. He plays for a terrible team. I'm not saying he's the next greatest or that he didn't have an atrocious game last night, but I don't get paid to evaluate his ability to compete at the next level.

Locker has NFL size, he can make all the throws, and he can run the ball. But against the Nebraska defense yesterday, he had no running game, his receivers were blanketed, and he had defensive linemen constantly in his face. Despite that, he managed to get his team in the end zone three times and keep the game reasonably competitive into the third quarter. Sometimes statistics don't tell the real story.

Stanford should be higher, they seem really strong. I guess we'll see when they play at Oregon though...
September 19th, 2010 at 12:49 PM ^
Agreed. That wasn't a particularly strong Wake Forest team last night, but Stanford is absolutely destroying people.

It's a good to see future Big Ten member Nebraska doing well. They'll be in our Division no less. Should make the road to the Big Ten Championship very interesting...

Taylor Martinez, who's a redshirt freshman, at this link:

He's turning heads in Lincoln, and we know a thing or two about running quarterbacks.
Next year should be a GREAT game against you guys.

I don't get why that means no one pays attention this early... those numbers seem to make sense after yesterdays games.

6 teams ranked. I said it last week that the B10 is the best conference in the country.
September 19th, 2010 at 2:42 PM ^
for Nebraska? They're closer to being Big Ten every single day.

to get everyone's attention.
This year will be different than last year only if we make it different.

When UMass was setting up for the onsides kick, I was debating whether we would remain in the top #25. Now that we're steady at 21/22, I say, we dodged a bullet, lets learn from our mistakes and lets keep gettiing better.
Moral of the story: this game won't define our season.
September 19th, 2010 at 2:45 PM ^
to still be ranked, if for no other reason than to comfort recruits who are making sure the team is truly back before they commit. Where we are now really matters pretty little; if we keep winning, we'll rise. If not, we'll fall. Just win, baby.

Shakes out about how I thought. Pollsters who didn't see the UM game probably figured UMass made it interesting at the end, but 42 points is still an impressive total. Also, after the last couple of weeks, maybe they figured a letdown was in order. Still, at this point being ranked is inconsequential - if this team is ranked at the end of the year, then I'll be happy.
Stanford has been destroying people, but their games are later in the day and they have not really battled a big-name opponent yet. If they crush ND next week, I expect them to be in the top-12 to top-15.
Nebraska looked incredibly dangerous yesterday, and may be the toast of the Big 12. Not sure about Washington yet, though, since Locker has certainly not set the world on fire.

Considering Notre Dame and UConn both lost as well, I thought Michigan would drop further. I guess a win's a win though.
September 19th, 2010 at 3:55 PM ^
I thought for sure it would be lower or potentially out all together. Beating UMASS by 5, on the same night that both the other teams we beat lost, isn't going to gain us many points. Rightfully so, I would say. We need to keep winning and the rest will take care of itself.
September 19th, 2010 at 4:00 PM ^
I don't know where we should be ranked. The offense is so great and the defense is ranked 100th.
September 19th, 2010 at 7:06 PM ^
100th in yards, 69th in points. Which is more important to you?
