2019 in-state DE Michael Fletcher names top 6

Submitted by Magnus on

Flint (MI) Carman Ainsworth DE Michael Fletcher named a top six that includes Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. He'll announce on June 29.

I know people have been worked up about Devontae Dobbs, Logan Brown, etc., but I think Fletcher has the potential to be the best of the in-state bunch. Right now he's a 247 Composite 3-star, the #25 strongside end, and #387 overall. He has Taco Charlton-like potential, in my opinion.

The staff definitely likes Fletcher, who was all MSU at one point before Mattison and co had him leaning towards Michigan. Now he's trending back towards MSU but he has his official visit in June right before his announcement and that will be a huge recruiting weekend for Michigan that could swing him back. Even though recruiting services have him lower, the staff seems to want him.

We currently have 3 DE commits in the 2019 class. 2 of them are ranked in the top 4 at the position. There will be 3 true freshman DEs on the team in 2018, along with a redshirt freshman. Fletcher is at most a backup plan in case Herron flips to Stanford.

Herron is at best 50% to stay in the class, Hinton is going to outgrow DE, one of Upshaw or Hutchinson likely moves inside, and Welshof is very raw.  The attention paid to hiim by Mattison and Brown indicates he's more than a backup plan, and they want him.  And as Magnus has pointed out here, he has tremendous upside, if they take a lot of DEs, they have room for some guys who are more developmental.

every time an "expert" recruiter issues a crystal ball and the player announces for another schol, the crystal ball should be shoved up his ass. After a few "misses" the experts will become postal carriers or really accurate.

Because predicting what teenagers will do is a 100% scientific process?  The nice thing about the crystal balls is they are easier to keep updated than the hot/warm/cool tags that the recruiting sites maintain themselves.  But they aren't a forecasting of the future, things change. You're asking people to forecast 17 year olds making a decision where they have parents, HS coaches, and multimillionaire college coaches(masters of motivation and manipulation) all trying to sway their decisions.

i thought Michigan had quite a few targets on the D/L at both tackle and end...in addition to Herron and Newburg... Hinton is probably a kid that ends up at DT... from my count:

harrison (doubtful, but Michigan is in the race)

Karlaftis

Hicks

Dicosmo

Ojabo

Ohorhoro

In addition to these names, there are a number of other kids they have offered, but to be honest, there doesn't seem to be too much 'buzz' on any of them, so i don't know how likely any of those other offers would be to drop...

edit: i think the staff does want Fletcher, so if they don't i don't think it will be because they slow played him...imo at least

MSU will never win a NC. Recruits will wise up and start understanding the bad stink they have nationally. Harbaugh needs to bring it this year. Last year was a mess and youth & injuries on O hurt. I expect a big jump this year.

That all the stink and shit going on at MSU and try are still pulling in recruits let alone hurting us and still playing a factor on the national scene.

What’s that say about us and what we have not been able to accomplish. A few losses and we are considered toxic but MSU can continue to be a national disgrace and kids are committing and let alone the local kids committing...
