2017 NBA Draft (open thread)
Pardon my ignorance, but is Walton projected to be drafted? And if he is, where?
2nd round, could possibly sneak into the late 1st. More like a mid 2nd round.
Wilson is late 1st or early 2nd.
I hope you are right because I think he deserves it, but I haven't seen anything like that. I have read that he will be a late second or UFA.
Where did you see late 1st or early 2nd for Walton?
What? That's not what I said at all.
Uhhhhhhhh...You said he could sneak into the first round...
If he hadn't responded to you first, that's very likely how I would have responded to you, word for damn word.

Where did I say
"Walton is projected as a late 1st / early 2nd?"
Look at the very title of his post.
I never said that. Word for word. I said "More like a mid 2nd round."
READING IS FUNDAMENTAL...COMPREHENSION IS ESSENTIAL.
I literally said he's more like a 2nd round pick.
EDIT: A MID 2nd round pick at that...which can go ANY direction in the NBA Draft. That's an uFA or a high 2nd rounder. 2nd round picks aren't guaranteed contracts...it's almost like the 8th round in the NFL draft. Especially the MID 2nd round and later.
Instead of these tortured responses, you would have been better off just saying that you missed on that one. Happens to everyone.
All of the condescending and ridiculous word twisting in the follow up posts makes you seem a bit off.
So Yost, you are saying you never said "Walton" and "first found" in the same sentence, correct? I just need to get this straight before I go and re-read your original comment again for about the 10th time. You go around having these odd "what-if" conversations with yourself that involve an awful lot of Kool-Aid drinking that usually end up with you hot take declarative statement. Then proceed to get super involved when called on it. I re-read the title of his post. He was questioning what you had just said. Not saying that himself. Unless I'm completely not grasping how message boards work anymore.
Let's just say you never said anything about sneaking into the first round (which you did...I just read it for the 11th time). You were still wayyyyyyyyy off about mid second round...not quite sure of the relevance of the NFL draft to this conversation or any of the other ramblings in your edit.
You could use some humility in your life. Or a break from the internet.
No one has come close to saying walton is a fringe first rounder. He's on the fringe of even getting drafted.
And what are you talking about?
#1 That's not true at all.
#2. There was just a thread on this website about Walton being rated in the 20's and WILSON actually being in the 40's.
I literally called Walton a "2nd round" pick. Which means you may not get drafted. I even followed up and said "more like mid 2nd round." Which is just a few picks away from going undrafted.
What is happening?
You are saying one thing and then saying another.
I said he's a mid 2nd round pick who could go as high as late 1st round.
That's not a shocking revelation. That's 1/2 round. Guys have gone 1/2 round higher than expected and guys have fallen 1/2 round than expected. It's really not that big of a deal.
Where are you hearing Walton maybe late first? I've heard maybe late 2nd likely undrafted
At one point..... They change their mock drafts a lot leading up to the draft with rumors and the such, but I did see him getting early second consideration at some point for sure. Doesn't look like he's getting picked in the early 2nd, but he definitely has a role in the NBA. #1 PPP scorer in off the catch 3 pt shooting in the NCAA at 1.50. That is insane, and even though he is 6'0 he has a place in the NBA as a Dellavedova type. He is better at shooting off the dribble and off the catch, and his defense is not bad at the NBA level. I think he has a place, but Belein PG's have tended to dissapoint in the NBA so far.
Ed: just want to confirm that all I'm saying is that he DID jump up DraftExpress mock drafts all of a sudden a few weeks ago. I don't pay attention to draftexpress mock drafts too much, but I do pay attention to 76ers blogs and saw that he had shot up into the 30-35 range at one point, but seemed to drop back down pretty quickly. This may be what Mr. Yost is talking about, even though he seems to be contradicting himself.
As a Knicks fan, I'm terrified of what hurt feelings Phil Jackson may do tonight.
...I got my popcorn ready.
Who's ready to play the Jay Bilas drinking game?
Kinnard to
Detroit
Boom
Impressive you are
Every mock ever has had this for months.
I think Fox is going to be awesome...kid has the mentality that's going to make him GREAT.
I think he's got some Russ/John Wall in him. Future All-Star with a chance to be great.
Anyone have word on what team Wilson may be drafted?
There are rumors he has guarantees from the Lakers and/or Jazz late in the first.
Oh no not the Lakers plz
Nets at 22 was the latest rumor I think.
DJ to OKC. No chance Walton gets drafted, teams like to take high upside chances with 2nd round picks.
They need spacing so badly. He might play a bunch this year if he goes there.
What?
They like high upside chances throughout the draft.
This logic makes no sense though, we say that all of the lottery guys are high upside freshman...pushing the seniors to the bottom of the 1st round and into the 2nd round. Now you're saying teams are taking risks then.
No.
The 2nd round is always full of those lifelong college seniors who can contribute.
Frank Mason was college POY to many...and he'll be in the 2nd round (as a senior). Kadeem Allen. Monte Morris, Isiah Hicks from UNC. Josh Hart. Dillon Brooks at Oregon wasn't a senior, but he's a junior and he's not mentioned in the 1st round.
I'm just trying to follow your logic because it's seems to be the exact opposite of what happens. You take the high upside kids in the 1st round and your AJ Hammons' and Georges Niang's of the world all get picked up in the 2nd.
There are 2 different groups of seniors.
One group that is currently as talented or about the same level talent as the group of young kids who get drafted earlier due to their upside.
Then the second group that Walton fits into that will compete for the last couple spots on a bench.
The first group gets drafted late first and into the second. The problem is many teams go the international route in round 2 so they can stash the players overseas for a couple years. Those are the high upside picks I refer to.
This I agree with 100%.
IMO he's a mid 2nd round talent who, like you said, compete for the last couple of spots on the bench.
But if he goes a little higher or not at all...it's no shocker to me. It's a 2 round draft.
If this was the NFL draft and someone slipped from the mid 2nd round until the 3rd round...no one would think anything of it.
OKC I guess it wouldnt be all that bad, they still have Westbrook. I need to catch up on the NBA again.
The selection of Markell Fultz should go a long way to help them move up in the league. Hope he stays healthy.
Already sick of him.
been sick of him for a while now.
Why? He doesn't even speak.
It's his dad that's annoying as hell.
More than anything, I just feel bad for Lonzo. From what I've heard from him, he seems like a well-adjusted kid. But....I kinda want him to fail just so his loud mouth dad will STFU.
I don't even think that would shut him up...he was the same way before Ball got to UCLA. We just didn't know about him.
The best way to shut Daddy Ball up? Stop giving him the attention he so desperately wants. But you think ESPN is ever going to do that?
They'll create a reality show in 10 years just to keep this man alive.
God, shut his dad the fuck up
However, it is possible to not interview him.
Just get the camera and mic out of his damn face.
I like the Minnesota-Chicago trade for both teams.
Future backcourt and 7 is a hell of a return. I agree it's a win/win.
I'm a Wolves fan. Levine is good but I don't think he will be great. Wolves needed the leadership and talent. I'm excited.
got 16. Hadn't seen that part. I redact the love part.
are you guys being serious? Lavine is alright, Kris Dunn sucks (a shame) and they only moved up 9 slots .... to draft a dude that plays a lot like Mirotic.
Idk what Chicago is doing nor how thats the best they could have gotten for him.
and can give Dunn a pass playing behind Rubio as a rookie. I think it signifies a rebuild in Chicago, though maybe a bit early.
Definitely a rebuild. That's for sure. Wonder if they are going to buyout Wade?
Dunn shot 28% from 3 and like 61% from the stripe.
And lavine is coming off a torn acl ... For a top 15-20 player. Yeesh
De'Aaron Fox will be have the best NBA career out of this draft.
Wouldn't shock me at all...John Wall pt. 2
That said, I really like Tatum's game as well. NBA body and offensive game is already there.
This is the most intriguing draft in a looong time, IMO.
