Thanks for the link. Not to nitpick, but... http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/mgoboard-faq What should I title my threads? Please make your thread titles as informative as possible: "Justin Feagin" is bad. "Justin Feagin leaving the team?" is good. I may have overreacted a bit. I've been a little jumpy hoping for a commitment from someone...anyone.

Already 320 lbs? That's quite a big man already. Hopefully that's not too much of bad weight, but even if it is, he'd be able to drop it in a hurry once he hits a college weight room.

Will Campbell was a more dominant high school player. But considering how Campbell's career played out, it would be tough to say that Onwenu doesn't have a chance to surpass him as a college player. Personally, I think Onwenu is out of shape based on his film, and he takes a lot of plays off. In that respect, I'd say they're very similar.

Sounds like a Will Campbell type. Massive human being who could play on either side of the ball.

We don't seem to have many hits on OL/DL from Cass Tech, but I'm willing to take any large human being.

Does anybody know exactly how in the hell OSU got a foothold in Cass Tech anyways?  From 2000-2013 they pulled exactly two players and now it seems like the Buckeyes are a school favorite or at least in the conversation more often than they should.

Did Rich/Hoke (and even Dantonio for that matter) take a piss in Wilcher's Wheaties or something?  I dont get it.

OHIO STATE'S CASS TECH COMMITMENTS Since 2000
CLASS PLAYER POS
2000 MARCO COOPER LB
2004 VERNON GHOLSTON DL

You basically just described OSU from 2002-2006 as well and during that time they only pulled Gholston and I dont remember them even being in the running for any of the other elite players.  Something's changed in the relationship ins-state between Wilcher and both Michigan AND State IMO.

Damon Webb said in a SI article last year that the reputation is UM only recruits players and doesnt develop them.   And he wanted to go somewhere he'd develop.  Harsh words but if a guy from a "feeder school" is spouting that stuff you can only imagine the things opposing coaches were whispering and what kids say when they talk to each other at camps and the like.

but I think the difference is that UM had more successes back then compared to the past number of years.  Even given Carr's struggles vs the vest, I think that the relative success helped keep the better Michigan high school players in Michigan.

Now, you have more kids on social media, believing (or not believing) the hype or rumors or what have you...  Urban may be a slime ball in our eyes, but the guy can coach and he can sell.  I think kids are looking to ensure their path to the NFL and you won't get there nowadays with the development we've lacked in Ann Arbor.

Cass Tech wasn't putting players into D1 at the same rate back then. There were a few years where they didn't send any at all IIRC. You also have to remember Michigan was successful during that time frame as well. No 5-7 seasons. Were only a few seasons removed from a title compared to nearly 2 decades. You were comparing a very good Ohio State team to a really good Michigan team. Not a Michigan team struggling to make a bowl game.

It seems that nowadays Cass Tech gets all the Blue Chip guys in the Detroit Public School system. In the past, you'd see big names come out of a variety of different schools.

I'm thinking that Wilcher started doing something recently at Cass similar to what Ted Ginn does in Cleveland.

Well they've only pulled, what, 3(?) guys out of Cass in the last few years. Webb and Weber as the big fish and Alabi, who Michigan wasn't recruiting very hard anyway. Is it just coincidence that they're getting guys during years where we have 15 or fewer spots? As I said, Alabi is a guy who we didn't really get after. If it was a year with 20+ scholarships, I'd expect us to go after him. But if we are being honest with ourselves... and I'm not diminishing Wilcher, Cass Tech, or the players coming out of the program. But if we are being honest, when was the last time a Cass Tech player came out and produced in college? I mean unless I'm missing somebody, Jourdan Lewis is the best college player out of Cass in a long time. Now obviously the jury is still out on guys like Webb, Weber, and Dawson. But, while still important, the Cass Tech pipeline hasnt produced much in the last decade or so. Ohio State will get a Cass Tech guy occasionally just as we can occasionally pluck a guy out of Cleveland. It happens. It doesn't diminish our pipeline to that school. But these kids follow success. You're talking about kids who are 16-17 year olds in high school. Kids who weren't even born last time Michigan won a national title. Kids who were learning their "A, B, C's" last time Michigan won the Big Ten. Look at what Ohio State has done since then. That is going to get the attention of these kids. That's a fact. We have a lot going for us. But if you're going to compare a 13-1 national champion to a 5-7 team, it's not a wild guess who looks to be more attractive. It sucks to say it, but that's the way a lot of the kids look at it.
