Drew Sharp

Haha, it would fit Sharp well. Going against everything he's said about Michigan for the last bunch of years.

Or the first place vote is his and he plans to write an elaborate article about some "idiot" who voted Michigan #1.
August 20th, 2012 at 12:40 PM ^
That would be the trollingest article ever written. It might be too clever of a plan for Sharp though. He's just waiting until Michigan beats Bama, then he'll go on about the love the Wolverines are getting is too much and that "this wasn't your typical SEC" team.

Ha.....who in the blue hell gave us a first place vote? I love me some preseason polls: I swear half these guys just put teams high so they can drop them massively when they lose one.

Tasty, tasty kool-aid. If we can knock off Alabama (a tall task but not impossible), an undefeated season becomes very doable and with it the justification of that #1 vote.

August 18th, 2012 at 10:13 AM ^
Fuck the SEC. Bunch of " I beat someone in the best conference so I am the best" bullshit.
SOS
LSU 29
Bama - 28
Georgia - 48
South Carolina - Outside top 50
Arkansas - 18
This is a self fulfilling prophecy. Essentially the SEC has decided "If we refuse to schedule large non-conference games unless they are a top-2 (LSU vs Oregon, Bama v. Michigan), we can hedge our bets that we win that one game and can parade conference superiority."
August 18th, 2012 at 11:32 AM ^
Really all of this crap could have been avoided if Colt McCoy had just stayed healthy against Alabama.
August 18th, 2012 at 4:13 PM ^
if Ted Ginn Jr. hadn't broken his foot after returning the opening kick for a TD
August 18th, 2012 at 11:41 AM ^
So what did Arkansas do then to get a SOS higher than both LSU and Bama? Riddle me that, Mr. "AAAAARRRGGGHHHH I HATE THE ESS_EEE-CEE".
August 18th, 2012 at 12:34 PM ^
They have to play LSU and Alabamam i bet that is why it is higher either that or its the illustrious jacksonville state gamecocks...

I think the AP releases their ballots so we will probably find out the culprit soon enough. And I can't wait for the inevitable interview on the Finebaum show next week where Alabama fans go off on him PAWWWWWWLLLLL.

These polls aren't just fun speculation like pre-season mags. Ranking teams before they've played a game and before anyone knows how good they really are has had ramifications all the way through the season, right up to the BCS.
The BCS will soon be a memory, but in a better world, no rankings would be released until everyone had played at least 4 games. It'll never happen, of course...the media wouldn't sit still for that, since they'd have a lot harder time hyping their September games.

There are two reasons I'm enjoying these preseason polls this year:
1. OSU's low ranking.
2. MSU's rank below us that just INFURIATES their fans.
August 18th, 2012 at 10:32 AM ^
I was chatting with one of those uber MSU fan two days ago.
"Hey! I see that a poll finally ranked us [MSU] above you! Five in a row, baby!!"
"Which poll was that?"
"Does it matter? Five in a row, baby!!!"
This year. It ends.

had MSU ahead of us. But Denard was the cover.
If we don't beat those a$$ clowns this year I'm going to cry like a baby.

I think pretty much everyone on this board understands that preseason rankings are meaningless. I don't care where MSU or OSU are ranked, but what entertains me is watching their fanbases get fired up about being ranked behind us. The only people who put any credence in polls before a single snap is played don't know much about college football.

I agree on the schedule and the defense but I am not understanding the Miller LUV.
August 18th, 2012 at 12:50 PM ^
August 18th, 2012 at 1:48 PM ^
Best DL in the conference (including the best defensive player by far, John Simon); young and very talented LBs; good enough DBs. They always have good DBs.
Multiple options at RB, and they'll find somebody to play WR. Braxton Miller is going to be an unholy terror in that offense for 3 years. They'll be our second toughest opponent this year.
August 18th, 2012 at 4:32 PM ^
On the other hand, Miller looked awful throwing last year, they lost some significant talent--especially at WR, and they're installing a new system. Meyer is good, and they definitely have talent, but they also have far more question marks than many other teams. Among many talking heads, OSU had very high expectations in the preseason last year--they were expected to compete for a B1G title and be much better than us, for example. I give them a high ceiling and a low floor. I wouldn't be surprised at 10-2 or 7-5.
August 19th, 2012 at 5:52 PM ^
I truly think he's going to excel in Meyer's offense. I thought the kid played incredible for a true freshman in "The Game." I know he missed some passes, but the Ohio offense was an abortion for much of the season.
People will compare this transition to ours with RR. No comparison. They have a QB in year one who was meant to run this offense, and he's only a sophomore so no missed value in year 2.
That being said, we are still going to beat them this year.
