2006 Ball State game: our most recent late non-conference game
I remember this game mostly for not being able to watch because we didn't have ESPNU on our Comcast package. Listened on the radio nearly shitting myself in fear that Ball State was gonna come back and tie the game at 34-34.
Brady Hoke was the Ball State coach.
This was the very last time Bo Schembechler was in Michigan Stadium.
It was also the last time we played a non-conference game outside of September.

The bots can post meaningful and appropriate gifs now? I’m impressed. You’d think generating a username would be the easy part, though.

Michigan needs to follow Alabama’s example and play a Ball State the week before OSU.

The B1G as a whole needs to go to a version of the SEC model--no conference games the weekend before Thanksgiving. It lets everyone schedule a de facto bye week late in the season.

Honestly not sure why they switched to a 9 game schedule either. SEC plays 8 with 14 teams. Gives them an extra game against a garbage team while we’re playing an extra team from the west. We’ve seen before that the committee gives zero fucks about who you schedule and only cares about how many games you lose.

That's giving Bama too much credit. They schedule an FCS opponent before their rivalry game.

We did. It was this one. And it was nearly a trap game. With the countdown to armageddon happening in the corner of the screen the entire game.

I remember the Wolverines playing EMU in October of 2007 and some 1AA team in October 2009.

Delaware State 2009 in October.
Edit: I should have looked below.

Gap in the superbook or whatever you call it?

What's a 2009? I don't recall football being played in "2009", if that year even exists.

Brady Hoke in a headset. Whaaaat!

AND some sort of outerwear!
The box score says the temperature was in the low 40s. What a wimp! 14 degrees is still no-outerwear weather! (at least it was against Iowa that one year)

His excuse of not wearing one here so he could just focus on talking to the players was so damn ridiculous.

Fairly sure the last time Bo was in the stadium was a couple days later to film his segment for that HBO film on UM-OSU.
Or I might have it wrong. Can’t remember, but something is sticking in my head that he watched the Ball State game at home. One of his sons talked about it in his eulogy? Either way, almost certain the last time he was there was with HBO.

I will always believe that Lloyd kept the score close to give his "coaching tree" a little assist.
14 percent serious.

I was part of the student section yelling and screaming to keep them out of the end zone. Good times.
