11W Hoke Column: respectful and positive.

Submitted by WolverSwede on

I didn't know what to expect with this, but Brian has said that he has some level of respect for Ramzy at Eleven Warrios despite their differences.  The column is extremely pro-Hoke and not overly anti-Rodriguez (except for in the obvious 'wow he ruined the defense'-type stuff).  All-in-all it's an interesing look into an OSUtsider's (ha!) perspective.

Edit:  took out the extra 'l'.   It's the swedish in me that makes me do the double-consonant thing too often.  Thanks for pointing it out though.  It's pretty cool to do that.

Thanks for the link!  I have never been to their blog, but that was probably one of the better written pieces by an OSU fan I have read in a long, long time.

11Warriors is actually a pretty good site with generally level-headed writers.  I read it almost every day - although I'm usually looking for a little schadenfreude when I do - and I suppose you could say it's like the MGoBlog of aOSU.  Although oddly, Ramzy is usually the one that seems way more homerish and delusional than anybody when it comes to his columns (especially his defense of Tressel lately).

from several OSU grads, especially those who have been out of school for many years.  The rivalry is great for both schools, the conference, and college football.  We simply haven't been holding up our side of the bargain.

ribbing OSU for their Cooper years, they were still good and more often than not a top 5 or 10 program.  Michigan just beat them numerous times to spoil their season.

Michigan since 2005 except for 1 year has basically sucked.  We've only lost 1 maybe 2 games in the past decade we were favorites.  OSU under Cooper was the other way around, we won numerous games as the underdog.

We aren't even competitive with them, and you could never say that about OSU under Cooper.

True - this makes the Cooper years for them and the RR (and just before) years for us different.  OSU and John Cooper beat everyone they played, and then lost to Michigan.  Cooper's record at OSU is very very good, and he's in the college HOF, IIRC.  The last couple years of Carr with a few exceptions and the RR years, Michigan lost to a lot of teams in addition to OSU.

I would pretty much call it a wash because 2-10-1 is pretty close to 1-9 when it's all over.  The comfort I find in all of it is that maybe, just maybe the pattern will repeat itself, and after the Tressel thing unfolds Michigan will have their turn again at dominance.  I think we deserve it after the last decade.

His take on the Hoke situation is very interesting especially coming from an osu guy.  I'm going to have to check in the blog more often now.

BTW, is Ramzy the "poguemahone" (SP??) guy that used to post here from time to time?

"Michigan football never needed to be reinvented; it just needed a tune-up."

<br>I'm thinking this guy has a goatee, and Brian's shaved his, because anytime an OSU blog is more complementary, I'm thinking we're in a mirror universe.

I enjoyed that big-picture view of Michigan football.  The 11W guy is more reasonable than many Michigan fans and most OSU fans.

Right. I definitely consider MSU a rival, living in the East Lansing area. I just appreciate the level of thoughtfulness that went into that post. With MSU, it is all so much trash talk. The most legendary game with them in recent memory is the "clockgate". In light of the issues with Pryor and Tressel, it is easy to gleefully rejoice at the possibility of turning the tables on them in the near future. It is refreshing to remember that what made that rivarly so great was the high quality of both teams, something that has never to my mind ever really been the case in the MSU rivalry.

from a bunch douchbags that can't admit their team has been cheating for a decade! Tressel beating Michigan in recruiting in years past had more to do with cars and $500 hand shakes then Tressel "selling" OSU better than Carr did Michigan.

I first read 11W a couple weeks ago, when I was looking for insight into "cargate" and enjoyed that for about 4 days until they got back on topic, then was pleasantly surprised to read this
