#1 St Cloud State upset again, by AIC in hockey tournament
Didn't lose a game at home all year. Second year in a row they've lost as the #1 overall seed. Brutal.

OSU has no one to blame but themselves for taking the big ten tourney off, not even showing up vs PSU, and then getting bumped to 9th in the pwr, and placed in a brutal draw. Notre Dame in contrast took the tourney seriously, they had to obviously, and ended up, imo, in a better draw.

AIC left the lingerie on the floor!
Again...what the hell does that mean, Raftery?
March 29th, 2019 at 11:08 PM ^
A totally fair question, The Raft is both a mystery and a treasure.

had never heard of AIC. they are a thing? apparently they are kryptonite to st. cloud state.
Was just as uninformed, and since no one else wants to do it, I'll post what I found on their site:
American International College, AIC is a private institution located in Springfield, Massachusetts that was founded in 1885 with a mission to educate immigrants traveling to the United States through New York. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 1,372.
The American International Yellow Jackets men's ice hockey team is a NCAA Division I college ice hockey program and are a member of Atlantic Hockey conference. They play at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, MA, 2019 overall record of 23-16-1, won the 2019 Atlantic Hockey tourney and are the first team since 2012 to win both the regular season and tournament championships in the same season. The Atlantic Hockey Conference was previously the Metro Atlantic Hockey Conference and includes universities Mercyhurst, RIT, Niagra, USMI(Army), US Air Force Academy, Canisius, Holy Cross and Robert Morris as members.
Is the AIC team 100% made up of Canadian, Scandinavian, and Russian immigrants? If so, we obviously need MOAR WALLS!

I lived in Massachusetts for four years and today heard of American International University for the first time today. Also I looked it up and their average attendance this year was 674.

Unreal. More improbable than UMBC beating UVA.
Explain, since the #1 overall seed in hockey has lost in the first round numerous times, while a 16-seed in hoops is 1-139.
Well, if you're going by that kind of logic, sure.

Sports books had AIC at a +650 moneyline, which equates to about an 11-point spread in college basketball.
EDIT: It appears the moneyline on UMBC winning was +2000.

WTF is ACI? Sounds like a men’s league team sponsored an insurance company

No, it's that freshman Congresswoman from NY with the googly eyes that is all over the news.
The Michigan State Cows wouldn't stand a chance.

Fun/Amazing fact: This season, St. Cloud State was 21-0-1 on Olympic-sized ice and 9-6-2 on NHL-sized ice.
For some unknown reason, Olympic-sized (200 x 100 feet) rinks are not uncommon for college hockey teams in the great plains. NHL-sized (200 x 85 feet) rinks are standard in the rest of North America.

Minnesota still has a large ice sheet too. They’re talking about replacing it for the same reason.
When I lived in MN they replaced it yearly.
It may take 'til just before summer, but eventually it melted and then they got a new one about the following fall.

Wow. Wasn't paying attention yesterday. That's some Holy Cross over Minnesota insanity
Doubly brutal because AIC is probably one of the worst D1 programs over the last decade
I assume this was a pitched battle featuring 25-year-old freshmen played in front of dozens of unsuspecting fans who thought they were there to have their blood sugar measured.
College hockey at its finest!
