i hope despite the lack of other visitors that frost can be shown a festive atmosphere. i know he wants to start out at WR but we all think he'll end up at LB and he'd be such a good addition there.
TomVH: Wisconsin Visitors
Here's the list of recruits that will be on hand for Michigan's final home game. As always this list will grow and shrink as I confirm more people. Looks like this won't be too big of a weekend, but it will still be important. The two official visitors are both important to this class, and would help add some much needed help in key areas.
- LB/WR Kris Frost - Kris just got back from an Auburn visit that he really enjoyed. I think Michigan is still in the lead, but I did talk talk to Kris about Auburn after his trip. He said that Auburn is making things pretty difficult as far as who he wants to choose. Each visit they've done a better job of showing him where he would fit, and how much he likes it up there. This visit to Michigan will be very important for who he picks. His team does play at 7:30pm on Friday, but as of right now he is coming.
- TE Jack Tabb - Jack's team was eliminated from the playoffs, so he will be here.
- OL Jake Fisher (Commit)
- LB Ryan Petro - Florida linebacker, hearing from Michigan and a few other bigger schools, like Nebraska.
- OL Chris Bryant (Maybe) - He's figuring out if he can come
- LB Antonio Kinard (Maybe) - Kinard may be in this weekend. Figuring things out as we speak, should know soon obviously.
- RB Juwan Lewis - Muskegon running back plans on being there. Teammate of 2011 DT Damon Knox
- DT Danny O'Brien
...so few visitors...I guess because so many are playing in HS playoffs?
maybe because a lot of people have committed/visited places already? I'm not correcting you, just adding another possibility. Probably a combination
Playing at 7:30 on Friday night and making a noon game Saturday? That's a close one!
if we end up getting chris bryant as well as cyrus hobbi in this class, is there a chance any of the guys who are o-line right now move to the defensive side of the ball? i believe jack miller plays d line also, can he make the switch to DT?
This isn't a video game. Position switches from Oline to Dline just aren't that common.
Or from DL to OL for that matter.
the only reason i asked is because jack miller plays both ways in high school. also q washington and big will both switched, ferrara switched. RR seems to find ways to get guys in the best positions to succeed.
RR seems to find ways to get guys in the best positions to succeed
I like the long term potential of the moves, but I'm not sure you can argue that any of them have yet succeeded
It's really not a position switch. Many of these guys get recruited at both sides of that ball. Both Zettel and Miller are listed at DE by Rivals but we would prefer they play OL.
That said, OL is the position group of most need in this class. We can't afford to let any of our OL recruits go. If we get 5 guys to commit, we'll take all 5.
Then what the hell am I playing?
get these hogs on campus, redshirt 'em, bulk 'em up. that red shirt year can be used sorting out exactly where they play.
IMO, Jack Miller doesn't have the requisite athleticism to play defense at Michigan.
appears destined to compete at the Center position with Pace. I like the move. Just a solid hard-nosed guy who could play in 3 years.
I don't think we're getting Hobbi.
3 important recruits. I am especially high on Frost, who seems to be the type of athlete that could become a great linebacker. It always concerns me when a kid from the south is high on a school like Auburn-which suggests he wants to stay in the south. The schools are so different in every way-I can't recall many instances when we were head to head with Auburn for a recruit.
Worked out well for us. I agree the school's are totally different, and weather is a concern. But a lot of these kids like that, the difference up here. And my own preference, it's too damn hot down there in the summer.
..I did not enjoy a single summer until I moved north.
Maybe I am missing something, but why can't the Big10 allow night games in November. I know it doesn't matter this year because we don't have permanent lights yet, but we should have some later games. I know there are probably more important reasons for early games than recruiting, but this may cost us. The Dr. Phillips guys couldn't make it up and I am worried about the timing for Frost.
Sorry for the rant.
it can get frickin cold. i wouldn't be opposed to a nite game earlier in the season though.
Is that really the reason? I know it's colder at night, but it's November in the Midwest.
Edit : Maybe I missed the sarcasm.
The BigTen rules prevent a start after 1:00pm after the time change if the school does not have permanent lights. Next we have them. I do agree with the cold as !&@!? Part though.
Thanks for the explanation. As I read in another thread, why doesn't he BIG10 allow night games in Nov.
I know it's colder at night, but it's friggin' cold in the day time as well in Nov.
Michigan winters have their moments, but everyone that lives in real cold climates just laughed.
Michigan Notre Dame next year :)
Isn't Auburn about to be USC'd?
also your season prediction was wrong
Yeah, you would think that the looming 0-12 record would put a damper on their recruiting. But hey, I imagine that the FBI is investigating a lot of programs.
Let's hope for more visitors. HARD EDGE.
I would say Auburn and Michigan are neck-and-neck pre-Michigan visit, but an official visit to Michigan with his family and the ongoing battles between Auburn and the NCAA/FBI, I think, will turn Frost to UM in the end. Auburn is going to get hard, like USC hard sometime. While I really like him at LB, we are actually in decent shape in that position in the future: Demens, M Jones, K Jones, Morgan, Furman, Ryan, Bell and with C Gordon and M Robinson likely to stay/end up at LB, as well as chances (albeit small ones) with recruits like Dawson and Grant. We are also probably leading for 2 of the top players in the state for 2012 in Jenkins-Stone and Ross at LB. On the WR side, especially on the outside, we will lose Stonum and Hemingway after 2011. Watkins will probably play in the slot, if we get him, so if Frost plays out well at WR, I would not mind him there playing opposite of Conway in the future.
Watkins is probably not going to be put in the slot. his best asset is his speed, and that's not as important in the slot as shiftiness/quickness. He plays outside in HS and that's probably where he'll stay, regardless of where he goes.
Are you aware of the interest level in Juwan Lewis? I hadn't heard of him being a recruit to watch. I have been to a few Muskegon games this year and he is primarily Muskegon's power option in their veer offense.
Muskegon is a good program for Michigan to pay attention to. They don't have a Ronald Johnson or Terrance Taylor coming out every year, but Muskegon has a solid football program starting at the youth level and they also have a respectable weight training program (based on Muskegon performing well in state weightlifting competitions).
Not to mention, Muskegon's Hackley Stadium was constructed by the same design-build firm that designed Michigan stadium.
And Damon Knox is a gamer. I hope he can get his grades together.
As of right now, (or so it was told to me yesterday) it doesn't appear that Knox will be a part of the Michigan class, solely because of grades.
As far as Juwan Lewis goes, he's been hearing from us, Bama, OSU, and Miami (to name the top schools) and was on campus for the Iowa game. He likes Michigan a lot, but is also building a relationship with OSU coaches. The coaches were very impressed with him when he came in to camp (over the summer I believe?). Here's some film.
I am a Muskegon alum. I catch a few games a year. My wife teaches for Muskegon Public Schools and had him as a student. I just didn't realize that anyone other than Knox was on the radar of big name D-1 programs.
He is not the most talented back on the team, IMO. I would give that honor to Justin Means, who splits time at slot and tailback. Justin is a senior who was getting some looks as a sophomore, but the interest dropped off when he sat out his Junior season after breaking his leg in practice. His size likely also contributed to that. 5'4" and 150# doesn't exactly scream D-1. Regardless, he is electric and is Muskegon's most productive runner.
Yards have been tough to come by for Lewis, but a lot of that can be contributed to his role in Muskegon's offense this year. I'm just pleased to hear that another Muskegon kid is getting some serious looks.
Too bad about Knox. Luckily for him, the coach at Grand Valley Community College is an ex-Muskegon coach. GRCC has quickly become a JUCO power and Muskegon kids like Knox will have an opportunity to try to get on the right track there, if not somewhere else.
I realize he's only a sophomore in that video so I'm taking it with a grain of salt...
...but that's not a very impressive collection of highlights.
He must have really matured as a player since then for big-time schools to be impressed with him.
Dissapointing we couldn't get Dix or Karlos Williams on campus. Hopefully we can close out strong still though.
I believe Dix and the rest of the Dr. Pepper boys will be coming up after their season is over.
...that Karlos Williams was planning a December visit, as well
Like AllDayLong said the Dr. Phillips kids are coming after the playoffs, and the same goes for Karlos Williams. I talked to him today, and he's still planning on making it up. Just don't get too excited for either to switch for Michigan.
Tom, I read two different Scout interviews about VA LB Curtis Grant today. I know he's been pretty quiet about his recruitment, but he did mention that we might be in line for a post-season visit. Have you talked to him/do you have any idea if that's getting worked upon?
DGD, Tom, or anyone else who might know - has Blake Countess decided to visit UM? If so, when? I heard on here that we shot up his list when we offered, but Rivals doesn't mention us at all on his profile. I imagine our info is better, but I was just curious.
He's always had Michigan on his list, and he always says he's going to visit. I wouldn't be surprised if it happened, but I'm not expecting him to pick us even if it does.
I've heard nothing but Florida and Ohio State for him.
With fewer visitors I would imagine that we can give them that much more attention. Go Blue!
You get a
I really hope we recruit this kid hard. Tom, any word on a visit? Not much news since his offer and Auburn has apparently recruited him fairly well. I know defense is priority but Mason appears already interested in Michigan. And I think he is the perfect speed back for us with Dee as the all-around back.
I really hope we can get Tabb. We have a serious need for a TE recruit.
