TomVH: Malcolm Crockett Visiting This Weekend

Submitted by TomVH on

Washington DC running back Malcolm Crockett (5'11", 180 lbs, 3 star) is currently committed to Cincinnati, but that isn't stopping him from visiting Michigan this weekend. He'll be taking an official visit to take a closer look at what Michigan has to offer.

Malcolm's coach, Aazaar Abdul-Rahim said, "Michigan hasn't stopped recruiting him. He's never really been to any schools, so he's going to take some visits and see what happens. Michigan was his first offer ever, so he likes them still."

Tony Dews is recruiting Crockett, and doing a great job as usual. "Tony (Dews) has been recruiting him for awhile now, and he's done a really nice job. They're recruiting Malcolm as a running back, he's more of a downhill runner that will break tackles than the elusive guy," said Abdul-Rahim.  "Our offense is more of a pro-style this year, but we ran mostly spread last year, so the Michigan coaches saw how he could fit into their system from last year's film."

Part of Crockett's appeal may be his versatility, as he also plays defensive back for Friendship Collegiate Academy.

A side note to Crockett's recruitment is that Michigan has also offered his 2012 defensive line teammate, Eddie Goldman. The 6-foot-4, 307-pound defender is being recruited by everyone, and has already racked up around 36 offers.

My point is the star rating really doesn't always correlate to on-field success. Look at Iowa or Wisky, on a year to year basis they aren't recruiting powerhouses, yet they field top 25 teams every year.

I know... but I was answering the hypothetical question.

I'm inclined to think that schools such as Wisky and Iowa do well, without highly rated classes, because of coaching...

... well, insofar as much the HC isn't micromanaging the DC to the potential detriment of the team that is.

I'm just saying.

All hope is not lost for a January bowl game.  You may have forgotten about the  BBVA Compass Bowl on 1/08/11  and the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl on 1/09/11.

I wonder how close Crockett and Goldman are. If landing Crockett gave UM an edge, it would definitely be a good move.Otherwise I'm not sure landing another RB is that criticial for this class.

My school just played them today. I don't know his number but he didn't do much. We stopped on them 42-7. But then again we do have Savon Huggins and Sheldon Royster(who is a FS(!!!) by the way)

Reform is needed in recruiting.

Washington DC running back Malcolm Crockett (5'11", 180 lbs, 3 star) is currently committed to Cincinnati, but that isn't stopping him from visiting Michigan this weekend. He'll be taking an official visit to take a closer look at what Michigan has to offer.

This what pisses me off about recruiting and is partly to blame for why some coaches have to resort to creative strategies to make sure they can fill out their rosters every year.  So the next time someone wants to trash a coach for grey-shirting, consider the case study of Malcolm Crockett.

He's "committed" Cincy.  Really?  Do you even know what the definition of the word "committed" means.  I wish I could get away with this at home.  Yes honey, I'm "committed" to you but I'm gonna take an official visit to Hooters this weekend.

He's never really been to any schools, so he's going to take some visits and see what happens.

Why the world did you "commit" to a school without taking an official visit ANYWHERE else???  That should be on Mr. Cockett's ass and nobody else.  What the hell is Cincy supposed to think?  Do they press on or cut bait.  Nobody knows when kids pull this verbal commitment crap and then start taking official visits elsewhere.  This is more maddening than how the airlines oversell seats.

Committing to Cincy means exactly that.  Be a man and stand behind your word.  Otherwise, keep your piehole shut until you've *really* made your decision.

Seesh.

Did you apply to more than one?  If so, did you happen to get accepted to more than one?

If you happened to get accepted to your "safety school" first but then received an acceptance from your "stretch school" later, which did you end up attending?

Alternatively - did you stop looking at other women after your first date with the woman who later became your wife?  That is, you "committed" to your wife the day you signed your marriage license, not the day you picked her up for your first date.  Same thing in college athletic scholarships - they're "committed" once they send in their signed LOIs.  That magical date in February is the first day these athletes move from their verbal "pledges" to written "commitments."
