Mr. Brightside

Jealousy, turning saints into the sea.

Swimming through sick lullabies, choking on your alibis.

But it’s just the price I pay, destiny is calling me.

Open up my eager eyes, cause I’m Mr. Brightside.

I, like many of you, have been through almost two decades of heartbreak and endless bad officiating calls, bad bounces, poor coaching, and bad luck. I created a very thick wall around what blind optimism I once had around Michigan Football from when I started going to games as a small child in the 90’s through my college years in Ann Arbor (mid 2000s). My love remained but for the past 10 years, my brain has been constantly protecting myself year in and year out from getting my hopes up too high, in fear of the constant heartbreak. How many gut punches have we suffered? How many endless dong punches? How many sick lullabies must we suffer through every single year?

This team knew it early, much earlier than almost every fan would admit. Destiny was calling them.

I was debating yesterday before the game what CFP ranking we could get slotted to if we won. How we could matchup to Cinci rather than Georgia. Then I realized that’s the old me. Trying to already pro-actively protect myself from thinking about playing a seemingly “superior” opponent that we will lose to in a big game because we “can’t have nice things” and “BPONE”.

It’s time to let all that baggage go. We dominated a great OSU team and got that monkey off our backs. We’re BIG TEN CHAMPS on top of that. First time a team went from being unranked to into the playoffs. I’m so proud of the players, the coaches, and everyone involved in the program. It doesn’t matter who we play, we’re the best team in the country and everyone else should be afraid of playing US!

My very eager eyes are wide open again. We’re all Mr. Brightside

"But behind the anthemic tune and the stirring choruses, Mr Brightside is actually quite a sad song. The lyric is about a man who is obsessed with a girl that is seeing another man… and the thoughts that go through his head, imagining what they’re doing behind closed doors…"

Most will pick GA to win the game but I think Michigan has a good chance in defeating GA. We beat a loaded team with top talent and even with a near Heisman QB. GA QB does not match up to OSU. So, I think there is a decent chance of meeting the winner of the Cincy vs Bama game. My favorite Killer's song is Spaceman.
