Exit Dylan McCaffrey, Nico Collins Comment Count

Brian September 16th, 2020 at 3:42 PM

Nico Collins is out:

This is extremely bad news, but at least you don't have to see me tweet THROW IT TO NICO 500 times this November.

Dylan McCaffrey is out:

Whether this is regular bad news or extremely bad news will become clear over the course of the season. Losing McCaffrey means the QB depth chart is Joe Milton, now the presumed starter, Cade McNamara, and a true freshman Michigan picked up in a late scramble after JD Johnson was forced to medically retire.

Milton is acquiring a lot of offseason hype; this could be an indicator he has improved vastly over the past couple years and McCaffrey didn't want to stick around. That's the optimistic take. The less optimistic take is that McCaffrey left for whatever reason and now Milton is being handed the job more or less by default.

There is no content after the jump.

Not super encouraged about the McCaffrey transfer.

I thought he should have gotten more snaps during Shea's 2nd season with us.

Hopefully, Milton proves to be NFL-draft good.

Why can't we have nice things?  Nico's been with the team all along and when we finally get a season he leaves.  Meanwhile OSU's Davis has already said he's not returning, then when the season is back on he comes back.  WTF?  So, OSU will be fully loaded and we'll be down 3 starters ugh :/

Time to lower expectations.  The OL is a 100% turnover situation and we are riding with last year’s third string QB ?   Yikes

This sucks.  I was pretty stoked about our team this year.  First we’re not playing and now we’re not playing with3-4 of our best players.   I feel cheated that I never got to see Collins, Black, DPJ and Martin with 4,000 yards of receiving in a season.  DMac was going to be CMac but throwing and running.  So much attrition and under-performing.

Shouldn't be bad news for the groups pumping out Joe Milton buzz going back to his first camp.

Can't expect backups that have pro aspirations to stay if the young gun wins the job

Go Joe. Would have been great had you been able to dig into the question of whether Joe is for real or we're making the best of things as McCaffrey slithers off, a meme that had already filled the board for several days before mgoblog's "news" (which in today's world already comes after everyone knows).

Sometimes I'm a bit shocked at how far mgoblog obviously remains from any clear pipeline to the actual facts inside the program after a pretty long time going at this. It's like the site managers provide the tail-end of the parade.

Reading the replies on this thread I was about to conclude that we must have one of the most negative, miserable fan bases in the country. Then I reminded myself that this is NOT representative of the fan base as a whole.

anybody seen this?  Got it off reddit conversation

From what I’ve read through people who claim to have insider info on MGoBlog, DMC was ahead of Milton in camp and then got sick. He told coaches about being sick and Harbaugh tried to toughen him up and force DMC through workouts and practices for a few days while he was sick. DMC told his parents, they told DMC to take a day off so he did and coaches were mad and put Milton on top of the depth chart for good. DMCs dad had a conversation with Harbaugh about it and they basically agreed DMC would opt out, finish the semester and transfer out west. I’ve read Nebraska and Northern Colorado are presumed leaders for DMC.
