Michigan Football landed a defensive line commitment for the 2023 class in 3* Brooks Bahr:

Bahr is from Loyola Academy in Wilmette, IL. He is ranked 504th in the 24/7 composite and had offers from a mix of MAC, B1G, and Big 12 schools. Michigan offered him on February 1st, after Mike Elston was hired.

Bahr is the only DL commitment in the 2023 class, following the decommitment of Joel Starlings. A proper Hello will be coming in the subsequent days. There is no content after the jump.

I realize it’s not all Harbaugh but he still has oversight. DT/NT recruiting under Harbaugh has left a lot to be desired. Seems like we should be getting more per year.

with the loss of Hinton this year. Shows just how thin we are on the interior. The main difference with this line vs some prior years is they could actually stop the run at a decent level. I don’t care how pass heavy football is. It still starts with stopping the run. In my opinion we need to get batter at recruiting interior DL.

Don Brown was given way too much leeway but most coordinators are allowed the specifics of position numbers.  That and Brown wasn't a great recruiter but did have an eye for talent.  That said, the numbers and undersized tweeners were just inexcusable as it was obvious how his defense got ran over by strong run games and in turn eliminated the advantage they had on pass rush.  He never figured it out.

Mike MacDonald immediately made DT/NT a priority and numbers were looking far better but the departure of Hinton was quite unexpected.

That said, it's clear that Minter also has DT/NT as  a priority and Elston is a strong recruiter with lots of developed relationships. Next year again, we will lose Mazi Smith for sure and in the mean time will have to continue addressing the position through recruiting and possibly the Portal.

I'm prone to trusting the coaching staff and especially Elston in this case, but at 6'6 hopefully they can get him to hunker down, I'm leery of that sort of height in the middle of the line. Also the kid looks pretty filled out already I don't necessarily see where he's going to add 50 lbs. 3 bills seems about right.

I tend to think self-reported sizes are a bit overrated, so my guess is he's probably a bit shorter and probably a bit lighter.  And Jordan Davis from UGa was 6' 6" and it does seem like inside guys, if they have solid bend, can be a bit taller without being too detrimental.
