Might as well be a 3... TH Jr grabs third straight BT Freshman of the week award
Per UMHoops and the Big Ten Conference office...
Michigan’s Tim Hardaway Jr. earns his third straight weekly award after averaging 19.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 54.2 percent from the field and 60.0 percent from long range. Hardaway helped the Wolverines to a road win at Minnesota, leading the team with 22 points, marking his sixth 20-point game this season. Against Wisconsin, Hardaway scored 16 points, was 4-for-7 from long range, grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists. The freshman has scored in double figures in his last 11 games. This marks Hardaway’s fourth weekly award.
Last Michigan Freshman of the Week: Tim Hardaway Jr. (Feb. 21, 2011)
So what are we hoping for in terms of all-big ten. Morris and Hardaway as 2nd team or do you think one of them will be able to squeek in as first team?

My hopes are Morgan and Hardaway on Big 10 all freshman first team...when it comes to All big 10 teams though, Morris has to deal with Jordan Taylor, Talor Battle, McCamey (who I don't think is that good but still)... I hope Morris gets recognized but we'll see if the media will give him the love that he deserves

As good as Hardaway has been in the past month or two, I donno if his stats and play from the begining of the year will hold up to qualify him as first team.

I was thinking possibly Morris could pull it off. I think TH Jr is destined to 2nd/3rd team but Morris might recieve a few 1st team votes just because of how he really is a true PG but, yeah, there's a lot of competition at PG for all Big Ten honors this year. Maybe next year we can land 2 on the 1st team and at least 1 on the 2nd or 3rd team (Morgan, Novak, Douglass?)

Jordan from Wisconsin, Lucas MSU, Buford OSU, and Penn States Taylor Battle,
so I think it would be tough for D Mo or Timmy to slide in for first team.
But D mo should be penciled in for 2nd team and possibly Timmy as well.
But Timmy has to be considered for Freshman All American.

Don't forget Jon Diebler from OSU.

He's not at that level.

Probably second team for Morris. Hardaway might make the third team. He won't get higher than that - freshmen tend to get snubbed.

I know that I am crossing sports, but right now, I am really just focussed on the Team, the Team, the Team - I really want to see us in the tourney.
That said, I think that both of these guys are going to be 2nd team B10. Both have had their hot streaks but also their cold spells. If they both improve as expected, I see both as potential first B10 next year (which would mean that we would be pretty damn good).

...that THJ and DMo have a chance to be the best backcourt in the nation the next couple years. Wow.
February 28th, 2011 at 11:31 AM ^
Morris SHOULD be 1st team. He not only scores a decent amount, but I honestly think he's the best pg in the big ten when it comes to what a point gaurd is supposed to do...and that is to drive and dish. The guy is amazing at passing.

I love Morris but I don't see any way you could put him above Jordan Taylor. Big 10 first team just seems like it's got 4 complete locks with E'Twaun Moore, Jordan Taylor, Jajuan Johnson, Sullinger-not sure who the 5th is but I can't imagine any of those 4 not making it...
EDIT: Maybe Leuer?
February 28th, 2011 at 12:00 PM ^
Taylor Battle?
February 28th, 2011 at 12:09 PM ^
Yeah...it has to be Leuer. 20 PPG on a contending team. Senior. I think it's him.

all your big ten freshman of the week awards are belong to us

And the accolades just keep rolling in. Eso Akunne got the BTN Sixth-Man-of-the-game award for his performance against...ahh, crap. Can't remember who. Wisconsin? Illinois? He scored 2 points, though. A mind-blowing performance that was deservedly recognized by the BTN crew.

THANK YOU SIR MAY I HAVE ANOTHER
February 28th, 2011 at 12:41 PM ^
1st - Taylor, Sullinger, Johnson, Battle, Moore
2nd - Leuer, Mbekwe, Lighty, Morris, Lucas
freshmen - Sullinger, Morgan, Basabe, Hardaway, Craft

This seems pretty accurate to me. I can see leuer being higher / battle being lower. But overall this seems pretty close to what it will be IMO.

Darius Morris and Tim Hardaway Jr. should go pro. They should call JG 2112 Wentworth, because it's their money and they need it NOW!!!
Seriously though, it is nice to have a couple of players who could opt out early,as in after their junior seasons.
Recruiting should really get rolling with the success of THJ, Darius and Jordan Morgan, three completely different players who have thrived as underclassmen under Belien's guidance.

G- Jordan Taylor
G- Darius Morris/E'Twan Moore/Talor Battle
F- Jon Leuer
F- Jared Sullinger
C- JaJuan Johnson
That's the only competition that I see is the 2nd G spot. I think Jordan Taylor got that locked up IMO.

Make the 2-guard Moore and I agree 100% with your assessment.

Hardaway should be up there for First team. He's been unbelievable for a freshman. Can't wait to see him in the future because he's only gonna get better.
