He's a freshman and McCamey had no idea what to do with him. McCamey is not very good. Yet, he dominates.
Also, STOP CASTING UP 3s! The shot selection on this team is a FREAKING JOKE! Get it to Morgan every trip and watch their shooting percentages go way up.
February 16th, 2011 at 10:36 PM ^
Give this team credit, though. If you would've told me we were like 2/abajillion from threes, clawed back from a decent deficit in the second half, and it would come down to the last possession against Illinois AT Illinois, I would've called you crazy. This team is something special. Fuck all you who think otherwise.
February 16th, 2011 at 10:40 PM ^
I give credit to teams that win. I deserve to get my throat slashed for being critical of Michigan.
February 16th, 2011 at 10:41 PM ^
There's a difference between constructive criticism and douchebaggery.
February 16th, 2011 at 10:43 PM ^
Glad I'm constructively critical.
February 17th, 2011 at 12:52 AM ^
I think you need to check your douchebaggery levels as they are off the charts.
Also, you are a dickhead. Nothing in any post of yours could be considered constructive. Go root for another team. Although I am pretty sure you aren't a Michigan fan anyway.
February 16th, 2011 at 10:47 PM ^
For being a douche about it?
February 16th, 2011 at 10:37 PM ^
God this guy is so unpredictable. One game goes off for 16 then he has one of these games where he goes 2-11 and 1-8 from 3 pt land.
That shot where he dribbled on the right side of the key and jacked up a terrible jumper shows me that he has not grown out of his "dumb mistakes".
Can't pin the loss on him though. I think Illinois's length hurt us tonight. I know the rebounding numbers were close, but I think their lenght didn't allow us to get many open 3's and disrupted us driving in the lane.
February 16th, 2011 at 10:50 PM ^
Stu's offensive play was slightly above really bad... But the D was the part I couldn't stand. He let up SO MANY shots today. Someone should go back and see how much points were scored on his mistakes. I love this team but all these losses just stab me through the heart.
February 17th, 2011 at 1:32 AM ^
no open 3s? we shot 18 threes and nearly all were open looks. unbelievable that only 2 went down. that was about the worst shooting performance i've ever seen. how many shots were made outside of 5 feet? 3 or 4. this game was in hand against a down illini team and they just didn't take advantage of it.
February 16th, 2011 at 10:38 PM ^
2nd or 3rd most painful Michigan loss of the past decade...
Kill me.
February 16th, 2011 at 10:42 PM ^
how about msu last year, or osu last year, or osu in 06 or msu in 04, all more painful than this.
February 16th, 2011 at 10:44 PM ^
Very first one I've had to experience....
February 16th, 2011 at 10:54 PM ^
For 10 months??
February 16th, 2011 at 11:15 PM ^
Younger guy. I don't even know why I posted that. Didn't know how to play football or basketball till I was 13-14. Grew up a Michigan fan.
February 17th, 2011 at 12:21 AM ^
You've had YEARS to experience worse. And sometimes the losses as a kid stick with you for longer than the latter one's...
February 16th, 2011 at 10:44 PM ^
How about any game last year when we started out pre-season 15 with two supposed all big ten players-I went to all of those games as a student. Yikes. After watching every game over the last 5 years it's just nice to see an extremely young team contend like this.
February 16th, 2011 at 10:52 PM ^
Because you have to be playing for higher stakes for it to be REALLY painful.
February 16th, 2011 at 10:43 PM ^
I'm not going to knock Smotrycz there. He probably had no idea how much time was left and made a nice move to clear space for the shot. It just didn't fall.
February 16th, 2011 at 10:57 PM ^
Pretty bad night, he's a god. Better to have a guy who doesn't pass up the shot because scared. He'll learn what to do with it at the time.
February 16th, 2011 at 10:45 PM ^
Mchamey got that bounce in the first half, why couldn't Stu?!?!?!!?!? FML
February 16th, 2011 at 10:45 PM ^
Gah so close, another marquee win slips away. Great effort tonight boys.
February 16th, 2011 at 10:46 PM ^
The way Illinois has been sucking lately, I thought this game was winnable going in. I know KenPom disagrees, but I thought this was our best chance out of the Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin games. MSU has been playing better lately as well, so that game is a toss-up. Our tourney chances took a huge hit as far as I'm concerned. I tried the optimistic route, but I don't see anything other than NIT now.
February 16th, 2011 at 11:06 PM ^
I've got no problem with that, as long as the team bukilds on thsi experience for next year and comes out hungry for more success next year. We all knew the tournament was a pretty far out dream this year anyway.
February 16th, 2011 at 10:47 PM ^
Unfortunately, after finding out tonight that I didn't get a job which I'd aced the interview for, I had already put a hole in the door. Just when it looked like they might pull it out, I thought, "maybe this night won't all be horrible". But it was.
And I hurt my hand, too.
February 16th, 2011 at 10:53 PM ^
Great effort by the guys despite the loss. I said at the beginning of the season that NIT is fine, and next year this team should be very scary.
February 16th, 2011 at 11:00 PM ^
can we stop referring to Stu as a three point shooter to a guy who shoots threes? He is not a reliable shooter from outside. Im not getting on him for that last three of the game either. He simply is not consistent.
P.S
Doyle is the worst announcer in the world. I wanted to pound my head into the ground every time he spoke.
February 17th, 2011 at 12:35 AM ^
Entering tonight's game, Douglass was shooting 39.8% from 3.
February 16th, 2011 at 11:08 PM ^
Gonna have to win one game we are favored in, one game that will be a toss-up, and one of two games where we will be the underdog. It's gonna be tough. I thought our best chance was to win today. I have a hard time believing we will beat wisconsin. We have never beat wisconsin under beilin and the games at home haven't even been close.
I don't want to kill the guy, because he is just a freshman, but Smotroyzc is killing us. Can't play defense. I saw twice he clearly beat his man, and a clear lane to the hoop (one of which was the last shot) but he decided to pull up or pass the ball.
February 16th, 2011 at 11:21 PM ^
Unbelievable, if we had shot 12%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! from 3 we would have won that game
February 16th, 2011 at 11:23 PM ^
But, hey, were down but not out
February 17th, 2011 at 12:07 AM ^
It would be one thing if stu wen 1-8 whiile launching up shots in his face...But he was wide open for most of them. I wish hardaway became more of a factor and took a few more threes (the past few games everytime i see hardaway take a three that makes me go NONONO why did you take that!? he ends up making it)
February 17th, 2011 at 12:13 AM ^
Not sure why. His stroke is like butter. He might be the best spot up shooter on the team.
