OT: tOSU offers Glenville QB Cardale Jones
Over the weekend the vest offers QB Cardale Jones from Glenville High (per local sports radio here in cbus 97.1 the fan)....
They already have Braxton Miller, but QB depth is a concern for them, and I'm not sure if they feel Pryor is really coming back next year.

With the suspension looming over the heads of the 5 players, I truly don't believe any of them will be back next year. With the suspension possibly hurting their draft status, I just don't see them coming back. The only one who I might through a bone too, would be maybe Sanzenbacher.

I don't know how anyone could like any buckeye.

They're all coming back (which is old news).
As far as Cardale, word is either greyshirt or prep school then OSU.
January 31st, 2011 at 8:34 AM ^
Sanzenbacher wasn't one of the five suspended players. He was a senior with no eligibility remaining.

well duh there commin back going to the NFL would mean taking a pay cut.
January 31st, 2011 at 6:37 AM ^
Wouldnt thay have had to already declare?

This is correct; the deadline to declare for the draft was January 15th. Also I'm suprised to hear that OSU is offering Jones. I assumed he was not going to qualify.
January 31st, 2011 at 7:33 AM ^
Qualify....for osu?
no i don't think that was a problem.
January 31st, 2011 at 9:04 AM ^
He probably won't qualify. His offer doesn't change that. He's likely headed to JuCo or Toledo...I don't really understand the offer
January 31st, 2011 at 10:22 AM ^
They know by now that he can't take them up on the scholly, but...
<br>Tressel solidifies trust in his pipeline, Ginn gets his kid the offer he craved, Jones can tell everyone he had an OSU offer. Wins all 'round
January 31st, 2011 at 2:26 PM ^
This offer is just window-dressing for Ted "OSU Stooge" Ginn Sr. and his star QB Jones. Tressel didn't want him that much, but wants to keep the Glenville pipeline open as you said. Whatever. OSU must have had an extra scholarship too.
January 31st, 2011 at 7:48 AM ^
I thought that you get admitted to OSU if you graduate from an accredited high school in the state of Ohio?
January 31st, 2011 at 8:41 AM ^
Not any more. That used to be true prior to E. Gordon Gee's first reign, but he moved OSU away from the traditional land grant model and limited open enrollment (if that's the term) to spring quarter, and later phased it out entirely.

"Ohio State's 2010 enrolled class (Columbus campus) of 6,549 set record highs in average ACT (27.8) and SAT (1235) scores and in the percentage of students graduating in the top 10 percent of their high school classes (54)."
January 31st, 2011 at 10:21 AM ^
Oh i thought you were being sarcastic...but you use to be able to get in if you graduated? thats crazy
January 31st, 2011 at 8:35 AM ^
They sent over his vital signs from the hospital. He was subsequently accepted. Only at OSU.
January 31st, 2011 at 6:49 AM ^
Where are they going to go? Posey might be a 3-4 round type of player, the others would be doing themselves a disservice to leave.
January 31st, 2011 at 7:07 AM ^
You very well maybe right. Posey may only be a 3-4 round player at best, but sitting on the bench for the first 5 games of next season is not going to do any of these players justice either. That was my only reasoning for my post. It maybe completely absurd I just didn't see them coming back, that was until you all informed me that the NFL draft deadline is well past.
January 31st, 2011 at 10:19 AM ^
Half the blogs on the internet claim the suspensions have been reduced to 2 games. I havent found any proof it's true yet, but that's what everyone is saying.
Edit: Nevermind, the sources are fake
January 31st, 2011 at 6:52 AM ^
Looking at his profile his offer sheet is decent for someone who may not qualify. Interesting.
January 31st, 2011 at 7:02 AM ^
unlikely to qualify
January 31st, 2011 at 7:02 AM ^
Maybe Tressel is concerned that TP will be unable to keep himself out of trouble if he has nothing to do but lead the scout team until game 6.
January 31st, 2011 at 7:13 AM ^
How can one NOT qualify for admission to OSU? Katzenmoyer was only semi-literate after graduating ....... imagine what he was like at admission, and now go a standard deviation lower than that? Holy cats!
January 31st, 2011 at 7:17 AM ^
Come on Moe, Katzenmoyer was well versed in Aids Awareness, Golf and for the love of me I can't remember what the third class they offered him to keep him on the field.
January 31st, 2011 at 9:30 AM ^
SI had a great article back when he was in college, and they listed his three classes. One I remember was Golf, the other two were like "Awareness of walls in the 21st century" or something like that. I distinctly remember thinking, even then, that if you were good at sports people tended to make exceptions for you.

Hoke:
Why, so can I, or so can any man;
But will they come when you do call for them?
January 31st, 2011 at 12:26 PM ^
I guess the OSU coaches told Cardale this,
If you come this fall we'll have 5 quarterbacks, if you come next spring (after prep) we'll have 3.
He understands Braxton Miller is there and is willing to compete and all, so we'll have to see if he decides to go prep and greyshirt. Otherwise, I think he'd be a good fit at Toledo. They're a pretty solid up-and coming team with a fun offense.
January 31st, 2011 at 12:31 PM ^
Seems like Toledo is NOT the MAC team to schedule in a couple of years. They're loading up on some decent recruits and transfers.
January 31st, 2011 at 3:59 PM ^
For those ridiculing OSU's admissions standards for offering a scholarship to this kid: how does this differ from what we're doing with Thomas Rawls?
