Problems Looming for Iowa Football
As the other thread on this was killed because it was too paywall'd, that KCCI Des Moines is now reporting should place this topic into the public realm:
Jewel Hampton posted the following message on his Facebook page Sunday night: "Former Hawkeye!!! wats next???"
Iowa Spokesman Steve Roe told KCCI on Sunday night that he is unaware of any change to Hampton's actual status with the team. We should find out in the next few days if Hampton's departure is legitimate.
Hampton's sophomore season was cut short when he injured his knee against Arizona in September. The running back was considered one of Iowa's best players entering the year.
It has been a tough couple of days for Iowa football. On Tuesday, WR Derrell Johnson-Koulianos was suspended after being arrested on drug charges. Friday night, running back Brandon Wegher was officially granted his release from the team.
I'll save JamieMac the work on recommending Missouri in that bowl game. FWIW, more rumors out there that more bad news looming.

Their rumors are way juicer and more interesting than our CC rumors.
We need new rumors. We are being beaten badly by the Hawkeyes of all teams in the rumor mill department. That is unacceptable....after all....we are MICHIGAN!

I have the photoshop skills of a 48 year old mother who constantly posts on her children's facebook page. Cut me some slack!

I just thought you were keeping an eye out for them Hawkeyes or eye see what you did there.
The Hawkeyes were blind to these events.

Goddamn son. So good I finally broke down and gave you a +1.

can we go outside and have a catch now?
December 13th, 2010 at 1:14 PM ^
Everyone bet Missouri -1 before its taken off the board... unless you still think Missouri sucks
December 13th, 2010 at 1:17 PM ^
for drugs failed it. All suspended for bowl game and repeat offenders were told to pack their bags.
December 13th, 2010 at 1:43 PM ^
Do all teams test for drugs? or is it random? I say this cause my relative has seen a certain UM player at some different parties tokin the weed pretty heavily and hittin that bong hard several different times.
December 13th, 2010 at 1:45 PM ^
Probably not kosher to talk about that on a public site...
December 13th, 2010 at 1:54 PM ^
I'm sure the NCAA probes the depths of blog message board commenters for their information....
December 13th, 2010 at 1:52 PM ^
just say who it is.
December 13th, 2010 at 2:16 PM ^
and by "me" I mean "your mother."
December 13th, 2010 at 2:54 PM ^
Spreading false drug rumors about our own team is exactly what we should be doing.
December 13th, 2010 at 4:55 PM ^
it isn't false when my cousin who attends UM has seen it with his own eyes at several different parties..
Not like it matters anyway dude.. I can't remember the % of college players that smoke weed, but i remember seeing a poll by NFL players about their college experiences and it was a pretty high percentage is all im saying..
December 13th, 2010 at 5:15 PM ^
Just because your cousin told you something, doesn't mean it is actually true.
December 13th, 2010 at 1:54 PM ^
I'm not so sure thats the drug (or drugs) that are an issue at Iowa. I think weed, while not allowed, is looked at a little less critically.
December 13th, 2010 at 3:40 PM ^
I mean, Ann Arbor has Hash Bash, so weed isn't thought of as that bad. Maybe in Iowa they have a similar day like "Make Cocaine Rain Day"
December 13th, 2010 at 4:01 PM ^
Yeah, in general it is, but when you have the sheer numbers they are going to have, it becomes different. It wasn't just DJK testing positive, it was a very large part of the team.
December 13th, 2010 at 4:03 PM ^
They are testing because, evidently, when DJk was arrested, they must have found out some more about the team and the staff decided to test erveryone. SOme declined and in that instance I believe were told to pack up or were at least suspended. This will not end well for them.
December 13th, 2010 at 6:00 PM ^
but I'm not sure if they screen for weed and stuff too.
December 13th, 2010 at 2:24 PM ^
and more importantly his moms. Blocking for Denard in AA is a much better option here
December 13th, 2010 at 2:07 PM ^
Not a big surprise if all of this stuff is true. Kirk Frerentz is a highly overrated coach and he runs a thug program.
December 13th, 2010 at 2:40 PM ^
I wonder how this will affect the competitive balance in the Lea-- um, West Division?
December 13th, 2010 at 2:45 PM ^
Just going to make a quick change to my bowl confidence pool picks...
