What else could you expect from OSU

could have been a yellow? get serious
October 8th, 2010 at 3:22 PM ^
he must have been referring to the original tackle that got NO part of the ball.
October 8th, 2010 at 2:15 PM ^
off of the team. Or at least given a suspension to cool his heels.
Do you think the coach was referring to the hard tackle, had missed the ball kicked in the Akron player's face?
October 8th, 2010 at 2:16 PM ^
that he didn't get his ass kicked right then and there.
October 8th, 2010 at 2:18 PM ^
does soccer have a code of conduct or unwritten rules like baseball or hockey?
temmates should have just started to brawl
play was not cool
October 8th, 2010 at 2:42 PM ^
If he had only gotten a yellow, the next tackle would probably have been of the studs up variety. In general, soccer's penalty (you're gone and can't be replaced) is severe enough to avoid a code of conduct.

This isn't like he tried to kill the kid. This isn't even a hard foul.
<br>
<br>He honestly Just looked like he was going through the motions to clear it and the whistle had just blown.
<br>
<br>Was it cheap. Yeah sure. Was it worthy of a red. Probably. Should the kid be castrated for it? Not really
<br>
<br>It also looked like he pulled back once he audibly heard the whistle.
October 8th, 2010 at 2:39 PM ^
Do you also believe Roger Clemens didn't mean to throw a broken bat at Piazza in the 2000 WS?
Damn right they both oughtta be castrated.
October 8th, 2010 at 2:39 PM ^
This is Akron. Could the game really get that heated? The ref had JUST blown the whistle
October 8th, 2010 at 2:47 PM ^
I'm also an ex soccer player. What he did was 100% intentional. He also heard the wistle... It's not like the game was played at Camp Nou with 100,000 fans screaming at him.
October 8th, 2010 at 3:03 PM ^
Does it matter who you play? Sometimes players get frustrated and lose their cool. That's what happened. There is no question, that's a red card.
October 8th, 2010 at 3:17 PM ^
aren't familiar with Akron men's soccer. They are an NCAA soccer powerhouse: 2009 National Champs, MAC champs or runners up virtually every year since the mid-90's, and have several players currently in MLS.
October 8th, 2010 at 3:30 PM ^
Akron is currently rated #1 in the country. Their futbol program is much better than their football program.
October 8th, 2010 at 6:36 PM ^
Justified red card, bur not worth a castration or even a brawl. a lot of soccer calls are based on the flow of the game and how the ref is calling it, so to judge something by this little clip is almost impossible. If it was a heated game with lots of other penalties and cards, then you could argue that the carded player had an ill intent. But, we don't know that.
October 8th, 2010 at 2:43 PM ^
Is that this was a soccer play. Soccer players kick soccer balls. This isn't like someone throwing a bat at someone or the new Mexico girl being a beast and pulling a girl down by her ponytail.
<br>
<br>This guy was In the wrong but you guys are making way too much out of this
October 8th, 2010 at 3:06 PM ^
So if this happened to your teammate, what would your reaction be? You're right, he didn't take the kid out for season/career, but it's still ridiculous.
October 8th, 2010 at 3:45 PM ^
It also looked like he pulled back once he audibly heard the whistle.
But he didn't stop. This is coming from a hockey player, which is just as fast if not faster than soccer: you know damn well when you heard the whistle, and you stop dead in your tracks - the point of no return is the down swing point of puck contact on a slapshot or the flick of your wrists on a wrist shot. Judging by how things look on the video (there's no audio, so we have to use what it looks like) it looks like the whistle came before he even got to the ball.
Also in hockey, the guy that takes that (cheap) shot after the offside whistle is blown usually gets his ass whooped.

Somewhere, Elizabeth Lambert is blushing.

This may be a cool, starry bra, but I played against them in club college lacrosse and they were the dirtiest team I'd ever played. At least they're consistent.
October 8th, 2010 at 3:04 PM ^
What an asshole. Also as an ex soccer player I find that move disgusting. No reason for him to go out of his way to kick that ball, wether he meant to hit the guy or not. Equivalent of someone tackling a qb when he's on the ground after someone else already laid him out with a roughing the passer call. Sure it's not like he split the kids head open but that's not the point. Just a dick move
October 8th, 2010 at 3:04 PM ^
He totally looks like a douche too:
And his dad is the head coach of the Columbus Crew.
October 8th, 2010 at 3:30 PM ^
If anyone cares his dad is the coach for the Columbus Crew.
October 8th, 2010 at 3:31 PM ^
The coach seemed to condone that and act like it should have been yellow. He probably encourages this. Typical...

The send off offense was for the player kicking the ball at the Akron player on the ground. In soccer, the ball is an extension of the body when not during play. Meaning, the red card was for violent conduct since the it was not while the ball was in play.
October 8th, 2010 at 10:56 PM ^
It's a clear red, but it's one of those stupid reds where no one is gonna get hurt instead of something actually dangerous.
If you want something to make you really hate OSU soccer, check this video out. This is a video from the 2007 Michigan-OSU game that OSU won in OT on a phantom goal. Michigan was basically the last team out of the tournament that year. A tie would have given them a good chance at making it in.
