ESPN Mag. Big Ten Player Survey
In today's new edition of ESPN the Magazine, the Big Ten players' survey was predictably gloomy...however I was most taken aback by the 53.3 percent of Big Ten football players who said that RichRod was "the last coach they would ever want to play for".
Is it just the losing, or is there a real, prevailing sense among players at other programs that RR is actually a bad coach?

They just see that Michigan has won 8 games in the last 2 years, when we usually win at least 8 in one year; they also see all the bad publicity and our "major" violations. They see good players transferring, and think RR must be at fault. If you aren't a Michigan fan, what is the last good thing you've heard about our program?

constitutes for not wanting to play for a coach? Can't win and bad PR....
Look, I am all for supporting the coach, but there is not alot of "positive" outcomes happening lately.
I am looking forward to the end of the season, because I think alot of this bad PR and speculation will be coming to an end. Either RR will win and this will stop, or we will be onto another coach.

i can't neg this joker because I don't want to lose a point.../sigh
August 12th, 2010 at 10:34 PM ^
If what this "joker" said is so bad, why not tear it apart with logic instead of just a smart, name-calling comment, Jensencoach?

Probably both. 8-16 at Michigan sure doesn't help, especially for those upperclassmen that remember what Michigan used to be like. But the media surely hasn't helped the public opinion of RR one bit.

It's the losing, and it's the bad press surrounding Rodriguez. The players just see the bad headlines and that's all they get out of it. They're pretty uninformed when it comes to Michigan's program, and Rodriguez in my opinion.

ESPN, mag, 2, .com (except for Rittenberg), News, 3, U, and anything else I missed needs to go away.

Don't forget about ESPN the OCHO!

That number stood out to me as well. It would seem that they are buying into all the negative media. A comment was included about how Michigan's cheating has to fall back on RR (paraphrase). Better be careful unnamed player, a crack down of that supposed cheating could be coming to a university near you sometime soon.

Good. Fuck 'em.
The Two Minutes Hate I have every morning about all of the other Big-10 teams is only fueled further by this trite bit of information.

To entice players to fill out ESPN's survey, the magazine offered a dozen glazed donuts to participants.
Boren filled out 754 surveys and would have picked UM's head coach no matter who it was.

I understand all the negative Coach Rod press, even though I strongly disagree with all of it. But for the dear love of God, people need to stop declaring that Les Miles is "coming home" and leading us to the promised land. I am going to lose it if I hear that one more damn time.

They don't want to play for him now because they think he's a loser. If we start beating their asses, they'll start hating him because he's a winner.
More hate just makes the season more interesting.
August 12th, 2010 at 7:43 PM ^
Any Purdue player is going to say "No" because they hate Michigan for stealing Roundtree and 'getting their player suspended'
Illinois irrationally hates Michigan for something I don't know what
Michigan State players hate everything Michigan...and Dantonio...dude is full of hate and it rubs off on his players.
Most OSU players chose to go there over Michigan anyway, so they will say no.
The above applies for Penn State, too.
Soup Campbell has been filling the people at Iowa with crazy, nasty, negative stories
Then, there are maybe some players at the other schools that wanted to go to Michigan, but didn't get offers, so they are bitter.
Add on Bad PR and losing like was said above, and I'm actually surprised it is as high as 50%....

i bet these players will be singing a different tune after this season, especially after Rich Rod emasculates little brother.

This does not surprise or concern me. Michigan has been toward the bottom of the league, has violated NCAA rules, and been hit with all kinds of bad publicity with Rodriguez at the helm. There's no other Big Ten coach who has received NEARLY the amount of negative press that Rodriguez has, not even Ron Zook.

I'm not surprised, they know they would have to actually bust their ass and work hard if they played for coach Rodriguez.

I had to quit drinking for the last two weeks as well to be able to make it. First night having beer again since then, and beer tastes so good! Luckily was able to not smoke. Good luck.
