OT: UCONN Women on pace for 220
not a typo. They have 55 after 1 QUARTER of play (ladies play 10min quarters). Apparently their opponent plays uptempo and UCONN, as usual, are beating them at their own game.
Not sure how many times I see a uconn score early in the 1st quarter and think, "damn that team is holding on, like 30-18, almost the half." only to realize 2 mins later there's 5 mins left in the QUARTER not the HALF.

The box score is like watching an autopsy on someone who's still alive.

It could be over 2 though.
St. Francis on offense isn't playing what looks like uptempo so much as frantic, like they're on a five-second shot clock. They're not beating UConn down the court but they're getting decent looks. They're just rushed shots so most miss, and then UConn is cleaning up the boards (39 rebounds to 8). It's not like UConn's defense is smothering them, as far as I can see; it's largely a one-sided implosion. St. Francis is thoroughly overmatched on defense, though -- UConn on offense is just solidly executing, creating open looks and making quality shots.
94-31 at halftime.

Seriously though, they only went seven deep in the first half. Empty the bench already.

One of the St. Francis guards is a JAS who isn't. . . a Just a Not Shooter. She keeps throwing bricks from Trey Burke range and missing, including some airballs.

At some point . . . you should stop taking them.

To be broken by UConn in 2019.

538 has UCONN at a 77% chance to win the entire women's tournament. By comparison the highest for the men is Villanova, at 20%.
There seems to be a huge amount of talent disparity in women's sports.
I have to assume that quite a bit of that disparity is because they have a much higher scholarship limit than on the men's side. I'm sure UConn and the other top 15 or so teams have women redshirting who would be starting on teams in the 30-50 range.
Which is exactly how it was in football before the new scholarship limits.
13 scholarships per team for men; 15 scholarships per team for women. http://www.scholarshipstats.com/basketball.htm I don't recall women's teams redshirting frosh who aren't injured, but maybe somebody somewhere can come up with a counter-example. I'm pretty sure that UConn doesn't do it; at least, I can't remember that team redshirting a non-injured freshman.
Well, you jinxed it. They didn't get anywhere close to 220. /s
I know it’s hard to compare between sports, but I think what they’re doing at UConn is far more impressive than anything Saban and Coach K have done.
No parity. UConn gets the best 10 players every year. Pretty silly.
for men, something I never thought I'd see again.
