And you thought you already had enough reasons to hate Penn State (Re: Sandusky)

Submitted by Ahriman on

A PSU Trustee named Albert Lord said the following about the victims of Sandusky: "Running out of sympathy for 35 yr old, so-called victims with 7 digit net worth," Lord said in an email sent on Saturday. "Do not understand why they were so prominent in trial".

http://michigan.247sports.com/Bolt/PSU-trustee-running-out-of-sympathy-for-so-called-victims-52063033

To his credit, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees said: "Al Lord’s comments are personal and do not represent the opinions of the board or the university".

Even beyond how stupid his comment is on how the victims have been made whole by some money, this jackass suggests that their testimony wasn't needed in a trial about them being assaulted.

People on the blog didn't really need more reason to hate Penn State, but Al Lord added one more reason. Football won't make up for what happened, but there is something satisfying about PSU being embarassed on the football field (hopefully it'll happen again this year).

Welcome to the board, Sportnut! Unfortunately, Al Lord's response to you is all too typical of the apologists and worse who continue to spout the "Penn St is innocent" nonsense. Their long history of inaction that allowed the predator to continue unimpeded IS on that university and everyone involved during Sandusky's reign of evil, whether in the cover-up, the passing-the-buck, the ignorance, or the very denial of the existence of a problem. If JoePa or anyone involved would only have done the right thing and taken their knowledge to the proper authorities, many of those poor kids would have been spared. But they all chose instead to worry about protecting their own image, and because they did so, that means those children are PENN STATE victims every bit as much as Sandusky's victims. Al Lord can go to hell!

From the Ped State delusional fanbase. They are incapable of introspectively coming to the realization that their school and people running it are partially responsible for what happened and share the blame. They try to make themselves feel better by saying Sandusky was the only one that had anything to do with what happened. They're really pathetic excuses for people.

a horrendous crime with a seven figure net worth should maybe have his assets redistributed to other less fortunate victims rather than kudos to him for salvaging his life, at least monetarily?  Or maybe he should just feel guilty.

I wholeheartedly agree with the uproar over lord's ignorance/lack of empathy. I find it appalling people that have this mindset still have a voice on that board. I just wanted to forward the man's response to me, as I kept my email as civil and inquisitive. Best way to further expose these clowns are to have them continue talking.

I try not to hate people ----- but YES, Al Lord is worthy of an exception.  He is definitely worthy of hate.

That guy has always swam in the gutter and, unfortunately, he's decided to go swim at even lower depths.

I'm embarassed by him.

but not overly influencial in terms of having actual power.  Alumni trustees (who number 9 out of a whopping 38 Trustees as a whole - 38 is WAY too many, but that's a tangential topic) have typically never had too much power over the years.  The other 29 are all appointed by either the PA Governor or various PA agricultural, business and industrial societies.

The thing about Al Lord ---- there are plenty of reasons beyond his "Sandusky-related stupidity" as to why a man like him has ZERO place around the Board of Trustees of a major American public University.  The man was engaged in highly shady behavior when he was the CEO of Sallie Mae!!!  At a time where college costs are out-pacing inflation, this is a man with a vested interest in college becoming even more un-affordable.  That's completely at odds with Penn State's core mission, which (along with every other land-grant instutition in America) is "to provide a quality, affordable higher education to the citizens of the state and the country at large."

But he's a very very very loud Paterno Loyalist.  That helped win him the election in 2014 - he's up for re-election next month (FWIW, Jay Paterno is running as well).  That election got a bit more interesting.

I had respect for PSU. A HS teammate played at PSU and I became a bit of a fan. When the Nittany Lions joined the B1G I continued to support them except against Michigan. Now just fuck Penn St and their administration and delusional disgusting fans. And fuck Al Lord with a cactus

Yeah, they've lost me too.

As a PA native, I've been following Penn State since the '70s.  Both my brothers went there.  I saw them beat Pitt in Beaver Stadium in 1978 to become ranked #1 for the first time in their history.  I've held out as long as I could.

I no longer believe that it is just a few isolated people.  I am starting to wonder if it is actually the prevailing attitude, and if you were behind closed doors it would come out.

"Al Lord is expressing his personal opinion." is not a strong enough response.  The level of outrage over his comments should be deafening.  Instead, its the silence and indifference that are deafening.

What troubles me most is that I don't see anything instutionally that says this could never happen again.  I can't help but believe that if it did, it would be brushed under the rug all over again.

Penn State, you deserve the scorn you get.

As a PA resident and guy with PSU co-workers, this sentiment is very common, if not the norm (although they aren't stupid enough to phrase it this way).

When ABC spent half the Rose Bowl talking about PSU "healing" after the Sandusky issue, I officially gave up on revisionist history not supplanting reality.  Nothing would make me happier than for PSU to fall on their face this year and for all those fans who still think Joe Pa was the victim in this whole process suffer anew.

I am so glad I moved away from that place.  Most people there live inside of a 50 mile radius and never experience any other cultures.  Nothing else exists other than JoPa and PSU football.  Fuck PSU.  Fuck JoPa.  Fuck child abusers!

Sounds like something @NittanyFan would say as well given how much he wags the dog and deflects accountability and assigns blame anywhere but at Penn State.

Apparently never coming back, I'll say again what got me sent to Bolivia.... I hope what we do to Pedo U on the football field continues to parallel that which Sandusky did to those poor children. Yep, I'm a tasteless sob, but fuck that sick cult.

I'm a little bagged on the Dos Equis. Green. Not that red shit. So you stated that you wished our football team would parallel what those horrible bastards did to those kids? And you got Bolivia'ed for it? Kind of sounds like maybe you shoulda seen that coming.

accept my fate, and am aware that I am a poor internet poster who lacks self control and tact.

My commentary shows a lack of sensitivity for the true victims of Sandusky, but I hope any delusional Joe-hadist sycophants feel nothing but football misery to the end of their days - since their beloved football team seems to be the only thing they are capable of feeling "tragedy" or "trauma" over.

The inability to empathize with raped children because it harms Kim Jung Paterno's reputation and the image/brand of their football team, leaves me hoping we "rape" them in football every year as that seems to be the only thing over which that cult is capable of feeling pain and suffering.

But I did read an article where it points out that he may be referring to McQueary, not the children. While still an asshole, maybe not to the numbing disturbing disgusting degree that quote suggests.

Would you take "seven figures" to let your kid be sexually assaulted? I didn't think so. Please return to the cave you crawled out of, and stay there. Thanks.

Sure, Al, money should cure everything, even the horrors of child sexual abuse.  Whatever you say, dude.

It infuriates me that Penn State became the CFB darling last year and then they finished the year ranked ahead of us.  Bullshit.

I love Al Lord's comments and openness about his mindset.  He validates all of my contempt for that shithole of a board of trustees and administration.  The sort of entitled prick that serves as the perfect face for PSU.

I have sincere sympathy for many PSU grads, faculty, and former fans.  There are a LOT of decent people who pulled for that program, and many who gave nary a shit about football there but focused on academics, etc.  And there are a number of reasonable fans who understand that the university and the football program own the sins of Paterno, Sandusky, et al.  They don't deserve the general oprobrium coming out of a dickweed like Al Lord's comments.

But the rest?  The JoePalogists (TM)?  Fuck each and every one of them

Again, thanks Al Lord.  Thanks for putting this mindset on bright display.  Thanks for reminding us that you are a total asshole.  Thanks for reminding us that this mindset exists prominently at PSU.  Thanks for keeping PSU's dark past in the public eye.

Thanks.

Also, fuck you.

Sincerely,

EM
