For a team who has struggled bringing in top tier talent at RB, this isn't going to make it any easier.
I think Jay has done well with the TE's, but we need more of a home run hire at RB coach. This really makes me wonder what happened with TWheat. We need a guy who has played in the league at that position.
Also not sure what Frey brings that Drevno doesn't already have...

That is not struggling to recruit top shelf talent.

Also, we don't need an RB coach from the league necessarily. If Fred Jackson did it for 42 years, i think anyone will do. Of course, he was a smarter version of Bill Belichick.

lot of coaching. Dividing them up between two good coaches sounds like a very good idea to me. Drevno has probably had too much responsibility. Compare that to what a new RB coach would do.

to all ex & future RB coaches. . .
but isn't the running back group pretty much the easiest position to coach?
take the hand off
don't fumble
hit the hole
don't fumble
follow your blockers
don't fumble
run fast
don't fumble
run a wheel route
don't fumble
get open in the flat
don't fumble
block that blitzing linebacker
recover the fucking fumble if you let your QB get murdered.
knowledgeable RB coaches please fill in the blanks!

Is Frey well regarded ? I noticed he recruited Anthony LaLota for us???
Anyway, if he comes here to coach, I wonder if this huge kid 6'9 380lb Caleb Jones follows him...

I'll never forget someone on this blog described his high school film as him just body slamming defenders and using no proper technique. Made me laugh. Still does to this day when I see his name.

Is there a hire we could make that would make him more solid? I want those SPARQ scores on the roster.

is very solid after his visit. I'd think any RB would love to hear we're working on improving the OL.

can chris partridge be RB coach?
he fits in the recruiting role of the Rb coach anyway.

Once again, I see that everyone is excited about this possible addition and I'm behind improving the O Line too because I thought they were the weakest link but three things concern me.
1. If we have a good OL Coach who's doing his job, why do we need another one?
2. Why aren't we looking to replace a RB Coach with another RB Coach? Our last one was a top 5 recruiter, was all big ten as a player and had a solid career playing in the NFL as well as coaching in the NFL. Why arent we looking to do as good if not better for his replacement.
3. I hear guys saying RB is the easiest position to coach. I'm not sure how true that is but I sure wouldn't want a novice coaching potential NFL talent (and we have a few). There is a chance that they don't improve at nearly the rate they should or not at all. Not knocking J. Harb. but he should stick to what he's great at and hire an expert who's great at coaching RB's and who will recruit as well as Wheatley if not better.
I'm just saying . . .

wasn't jackson a great RB coach in the past 20 years? a good RB have track record doesn't mean as much as an OL coach. Whith a lot of OL development work for this young group, I don't think it's non sense to have more help on the OL coaching. RB coach issue will be addressed after spring, jsut be patient.
January 23rd, 2017 at 11:08 PM ^
I do see that the OLine needs development help. I also believe that based on his track record, Harb has the knowledge and experience it takes to successfully manage this program until he wants to retire. I'm just throwing things out that perhaps some insider may have knowledge about and wants to share.
The running game is a huge part of the Michigan brand and we need to have good teachers to make Evans and the rest of these guys what they should be. I guess we all have to be patient and wait and see. Optimistically of course.

Let's ask Greg Frey who the next Dan Feeney is, and have Frey recruit and develp him. (3 star recruit, #939 player overall, Freshman All America First Team, All-Big Ten Honorable Mention as a true freshman.)

Read online that Jim Tomsula is looking for a job now that he's done butchering interviews as the '9ers head coach.
That mustache can coach any position.
