Friends is the most overrated tv show of all time. Hands down.

ummm...the regular thread probably says it all.
January 11th, 2017 at 11:03 PM ^
So do the "Fire Beilein" and "coaching candidates" threads, for a lot of people.
January 11th, 2017 at 11:00 PM ^
Beilein needs to go, but given that Warde Manuel is totally incompetent it won't happen for several more years, if at all.
January 12th, 2017 at 1:21 PM ^
Please be specific. From what hear, he is managing the department very well. Internal communication is much better, people know their responsibilities and he has increased resources available to the coaches (e.g., higher salary for assistants, improved facilities, etc).
What are your examples of incompetency?

I miss him too, but not for this reason.
Jim Hackett gave John a massive contract extension, so...
January 11th, 2017 at 11:05 PM ^
You can't blame Hackett for that. At the time, it looked like a fluke season and we had come off of a final four and elite 8.

What is he supposed to do publicly? Fire the coach in the middle of the season? John asked for increased money so that he can bring in new assistants and Warde approved it. This asinine.

What has Warde done or not done that makes you miss Jim? Don't be an imbecile.

Really nothing to say. The team is bad, and there is no reason to think it will improve this year or the next.
January 11th, 2017 at 11:04 PM ^
2 seniors, no captains. When both last year were captains.

Both Irvin and Walton are still captains.
"But after the game, U-M coach John Beilein didn’t mince words about his senior co-captains Zak Irvin and Derrick Walton Jr."
January 11th, 2017 at 11:35 PM ^
Where did you see that?
They aren't listed as captains on the roster as every other team at Michigan does on MGoBlue.

Good hustle. Lock down D. Explosive athleticism. Fun to watch no matter the outcome.

Tonight was a must-win. Illinois is terrible.
Nebraska is hot right now. Lost to Northwestern last game, but still beat two of the three teams we've lost to.
Then we have AT Wisconsin, a building we've won exactly twice in all-time. Then this same Illinois team at home, and then a stretch where face MSU twice, Indiana twice and then Wisconsin again before going on the road to The Barn to face Minnesota who already has a win over the best team in the league.
Which one of those games sound winnable? Maybe Illinois and/or Nebraska at home if we get our shit partially together.
I thought we escaped the darkness with Basketball, friends. I was wrong. That home game against sparty is gonna bring back very bad memories unless we start winning now so we can get our people in Crisler.

I'll always love and be thankful for Beilein gave us, regardless of what happens. I never saw us win anything but an NIT until that B1G title in 2011-12.
I said before the season that if we had a bad year with everyone healthy and with seniors, then I'd be mad.
We've dug out of holes before. The last and only time I was sure I wanted him fired was in 2010-11. 1-6 start to B1G play and Stu Douglass hits a shot on 1/27/2011 to change the course of the program.
It can happen. The problem is is that that team had great leaders and two future NBA players on it.

but this team feels different.
I hope I'm wrong.
<shouts: Hey you guys!!! Prove me wrong!!>

Obviously need to see how the season plays out, but if MIchigan ends up missing the tournament (seems like a certainty at this point) then yeah, Beilein has got to go.
Three straight years of mediocrity (and two out of three tournaments missed) seems like a fair shake. The recruiting and development just hasn't continued since the Stauskas year.

I think JB deserves next year at least, but even I -- a pretty staunch JB defender -- recognize that things look pretty bleak right now.
January 11th, 2017 at 11:25 PM ^
I forgot that this game was on.
I looked at the score and I guess I didn't miss much.

It looks so hard for our guards to beat anyone off the dribble, and so easy for anyone to beat our guards off the dribble... I just don't understand basketball stuff I guess.
January 12th, 2017 at 8:56 AM ^
That will solve a lot of problems.
January 12th, 2017 at 10:42 AM ^
Beilein is 63. So maybe he starts getting the retirement itch. How is that for a snowflake...
January 12th, 2017 at 10:48 AM ^
Recruiting has been a disaster. It's not just the inability to "close" on elite prospects (although that has obviously been a problem: see Battle, Langford, Winston, Brunson, Brown, Thornton, Huerter, etc.) but also passing on GETTABLE guys (3 star or low 4-star) who have the athleticism that the program needs. Four good examples come to mind:
1. Jamal Cain. In-state player, long, athletic forward with a relentless motor. Held an offer but JB soon passed on him. Much higher upside than other wings in the fold. Ended up at Marquette.
2. Quentin Goodin. 6-4 PG from Kentucky with extreme athleticism and strength. JB held out for Winston, who didn't end up here. I like X, but Goodin was perhaps the most underrated player in the class. Having a quiet freshman season at Xavier behind their loaded backcourt.
3. Nojel Eastern. 6-6 PG from Illinois who wanted to come to Michigan but had his offer pulled and ended up at Purdue, I think. Apparently JB wants to roll the dice on three sub-6-foot PGs with average-at-best athleticism and handles.
4. Donnie Tillman. Extremely strong in-state forward who by all accounts is a great student. Still scratching my head why JB wasn't interested considering the other players he has jumped at offering/signing.
