RR/UM theme song
I'm a big RR supporter and like many of you on the board we're looking to begin our assault on college football this year. The seeds laid this year will culminate in a shredding of teams in 11 and 12 that will put us back on top.
When this happens I was thinking of the perfect song that would go with the redemption video, that will surely follow from the many amateur producers we have here.
We need something slow at the beginning with some somberness/anger that culminates with an upbeat finish. I can say I'm not having much success. Anybody have the song that will be fitting when this ride ends?? Best I've found so far, but I don't think it quite captures what I'm looking for.

Insert OSU/MSU/ND/Freep staff for huns.
Watched this movie a lot with my daughter and I kept finding myself humming the tune days later.
This conversation starts and ends with Miley Cyrus

"We are the champions"?
We are the champions is the song for all the RR haters at the end of the season.
The use of "We Are the Champions" as a sports victory song always makes me chuckle as you have all these testosterone laden guys singing a song that is an anthem for the gay lifestyle. Too funny.
What does irony mean?
My understanding is that Queen did not specifically intend for "We Are the Champions" to be a gay song, but that it became embraced by gay groups (probably because of Freddy Mercury's own lifestyle), around the same time that sports fans did the same.
"YMCA," on the other hand...
"YMCA, on the other hand..."
My avatar covers that, no worries.
It's been more latched onto by the internet, long after the band was gone (and it became public that Mercury was gay). It makes for a great "ha ha" story, but there doesn't seem to be much fact to it.
Mercury didn't think of it as solely a gay anthem:
Mercury: "I was thinking about football when I wrote it. I wanted a participation song, something that the fans could latch on to. Of course, I've given it more theatrical subtlety than an ordinary football chant. I suppose it could also be construed as my version of "I Did It My Way." We have made it, and it certainly wasn't easy. No bed of roses as the song says. And it's still not easy."
Have you heard the song Clubbed to Death? It is in the Matrix (1st one) when they are in the construct and they are walking amongst the people and the woman with the red dress walks by. I think it would be a really good one.
If I went the rest of my life without hearing another song from the 80's, I wouldn't shed a tear.
Excluding Milli Vanilli, right?
Knights of Cydonia- Muse
I would go with "Forever" by Drake.
haha. lets wait until he starts winning (which i'm sure he will) before we say "i want this shit forever maan".
True, but the way the song climaxes at the end with the verse by Eminem seems. . . fitting. And, personally, I just like hearing Wayne say "hel-lo it's the mar-tian, space jam jahr-dans..."

Check out the Featured video.
+1 To you sir, that took me back to high school. My dad used to let me drive his souped up '86 Firebird to school, and I thought I was hot shit pulling into the parking lot banging this song. Good times.
The song in the OP just screams "chick music" to me...
Mogwai - Autorock
It may be a bit too slow for a full video, but it's definitely serious enough. I'm seeing a lot of slow-mo awesomeness.

Knights of Cyndonia was mentioned, but I'm pretty partial Uprising for the theme of this season. I heard a couple recruits refer to the 'uprising' so it's perfect.
Saw their US headlining tour opening in Atlanta on Saturday night. Melted my damn face off with amazingness.
ah you're a lucky man. My brother was there and said it was amazing. I'm going to see them at the Palace on the 13th. Can't wait!
Way back in September, when the song first came out, I suggested to the Athletic Department that they play something like this in the stadium rather than the schlock they were playing. Get something original, and make it your own first, instead of ripping off Penn State. It's got that classic Rock and Roll part 2 back beat, good chanting options, and the chorus has VICTORious in it. Seemed perfect to make it our own Seven Nation Army or whatever. Got nothing back.
Then, by November, every tv telecast for a football game, pro or college was using it in their transitions to commercial, and....
Seriously? We have The Victors. All other theme songs are not welcome.
Even the lyrics kinda match. Badass track.
Hail to the Victors is without question the best fight song in any Universe ever (this has been confirmed by Zoltan, who has visited/destroyed many other universes).
However, I like the idea of supplementing it. I love the use of Vision Quest by the OP - for those poor souls who have never seen the best movie with Matt Modine and Linda Fiorentino ever put on film, sprint to your friendly neighborhood video rental store. Sprint.
Additionally, I'd like to toss in the song "Rise", by the Flobots. Starts slow, builds, talks about rising TOGETHER. Winning cures everything.

Seriously, the first line captures the sum of our situation.
But Linda Fiorentino sure did.
edit: wow i didn't even see that someone else posted it too. i guess it's just that great of a song!
I think we all know which theme song the powers that be have chosen: Seven Nation Army. They do play it on an endless loop at all home games.
Dammit. I'm getting pissed off just thinking about it.
