I was legitimately shocked when he started to gas in the 2nd. Shocked and convinced he was about to get rocked yet again.

McGregor needs to defend 145 or fight at 155. I don't think he could win the 155 belt. Diaz has no chance of winning any belt. Not sure why they are fighting.

Beating the man who handed you your only UFC loss is something to gain. His hype train regains steam if he wins tonight.
And Diaz might be a top 5 lightweight, but the gap between him and the top of that division is massive. RDA straight clobbered him; Khabib would be able to take him down and strong-arm him with ease; Alvarez just bombed RDA and has a much more impressiv record.

Never got the appeal of this match up.

McGregor.
The "Diaz came off the couch for the first fight" argument is being overplayed. Conor was prepared for a 2-round KO contest, and Diaz was preparing for an actual triathalon. I honestly think this will be the first time we've seen Conor looking prepared to go the distance, and that's scary considering how lethal he's been in the past.
All that said, Nate knows he's going to be outboxed on the feet, and he's capable of ending it with a submission at any time if he can bring the fight to the mat. It's definitely worth the buy.
August 20th, 2016 at 9:56 PM ^
I think what you're saying about being prepared for a 2 round KO contest still favors Diaz. I do not think 7 minutes of energy can translate to a 25 minute gas tank against someone with the pressure and cardio of Diaz in the span of a single 3 month training camp.
If he doesn't get a KO in the first couple rounds I do not see him winning. Nate will beat him again and prove McGregor can't hang with the top guys in his natural division - which is lightweight. And yes I know this fight is at WW but Diaz has always obviously been a LW.
August 21st, 2016 at 12:59 PM ^
Midway through the firs round I thought Conor had the perfect plan and the tank to go 5 rounds.
Midway through the second I thought holy shit this is the same exact fight and Conor is gassing out.
From there it was HOW ARE EITHER OF THESE MEN STILL ALIVE?

That sums it up perfectly. What a great fight!

McGregor is risking far more than Diaz.
Diaz wins because those Diaz Bros scrap like angry roosters.

Diaz by stoppage in championship rounds or by decision.
August 20th, 2016 at 8:38 PM ^
Diaz is rangy, rangy guys always have the advantage. McGregor's two losses were both to taller rangy guys.

I like Diaz to win but I'd like it if McGregor won. As trash-talking as he is, I think he's better for the growth of the sport.
August 20th, 2016 at 9:24 PM ^
trending on Twitter than McGregor said, so..... I hope Diaz wins

None of my Kodi streams are working.
I love McGregor and root for him since it's where my family comes from. But, I think you could hit Diaz with a baseball bat and he won't go down. McGregor is the better fighter but I think Diaz wins by letting McGregor get tired by punching him in the face.

This should still die the Conor hype down though. I like him as a fighter, but he was hyped as immortal. He's solid, but not invincible. I'll gladly bet Frankie if they ever fight. A wrestler would be his worst nightmare

That was a really good fight. I thought Conor was toast after the 3rd round as he looked really gassed but he found his second wind well enough. He is a much better fighter when he fights unemotional like he did tonight.
Agreed with the two judges who had it at 48-47. You could make a decent argument for Conor getting a 10-8 in the first round as well.
August 21st, 2016 at 1:31 AM ^
Would have been a travi-sham-ockery if Connor lost.
Diaz was throwing and connecting with more punches...but his face looked like it went through a meat grinder.
Common sense would dictate that the guy beaten to a bloody pulp would have to lose a decision.
More excited about the possibility of Cormier/Rumble after tonight.

This comment is ignorant. The fight could have gone either way. Diaz has lots of scar tissue in his face which makes him more susceptible to cutting/bruising. While I do not disagree with the decision, it could have gone either way and further solidified McGregor as no more than just a top 10 LW at best.
Common sense would dictate that McG will lose his next fight if against a top ranked fighter and he does not win by 1st round KO.
August 21st, 2016 at 11:53 AM ^
I see where youre coming from but it was far more than just scarred tissue. McGregor landed the much more powerful shots. That Diaz Stockton slap will wear you down but McGregor did immensely more damage over the fight. In the old Pride scoring system that would not have been nearly as close of a fight as it was in the 10 point must system. Nate's leg was also obliterated as much as his face was... you could see the big swollen welts real clear in the last couple rounds.
