OT: Lochte robbed in Rio. Gun pressed to his head allegedly.

Submitted by NFG on
Breaking news from Rio is that Ryan Lochte was held at gun point and robbed. Not sure these Olympics could have gone much worse for Rio's image.

Bribes?  I'd be shocked ... shocked ... if that were true. /sarc

I used to follow the Olympics fairly faithfully back in the 70's and 80's, but my interest has waned.  A lot of my disinterest is due to the truly horrible coverage afforded by NBC.

I do like watching track and field, however ... how in the hell do high jumpers put their whole body over a bar 8 frickin' feet in the air?  I'll never figure that one out.

Yeah, I get that part ... the Fosbury Flop was a revolutionary approach to the high jump.

But 8 frickin' feet, man ... at my age I'd be lucky to reach up and touch 8 feet, let alone get my arms, butt and legs over that bar as well! :-)

In all seriousness ... I've long been impressed by high jumpers.  It has always struck me as one of those events that requires remarkable athleticism.

'"A spokesman for Club France, Hugo Sppezapria, said that Lochte, Pereira and friends attended a party inside Club France...

Sppezapria said that Lochte and Pereira left the party together between 2:30 and 3 a.m. and visited another “community.”

“Why the hell would they do that?” Sppezapria said.'

Sounds like it could be hookers and blow.

Anyone been to Liveleak?

If you spend about 20 mins on that sight, you'll learn that Brazil is a crazy place and that you should stay far away from. Taking video of killing people then posting it is waaaaay too common in Brazil.

majority of people either don't know or don't care that these things are happening. Worst thing that happened really is the pool turning green, but even that didn't affect the diving competition so no big deal.

Lochte mock press conference (from SI)

http://www.si.com/olympics/2016/08/14/ryan-lochte-robbed-at-gunpoint-io…

"Q. (redacted)

A. Yes, I know Mr. Lochte’s mother said he was robbed at gunpoint. Mothers. So silly, aren’t they? My own mother once thought she caught me collecting a bribe of beautiful unmarked bills of my favorite currency, when in fact—well, anyway, he was not robbed at gunpoint.

Q. (redacted)

A. Yes, I know Mr. Lochte also said he was robbed at gunpoint. Swimmers. So silly, aren’t they? This was all a big misunderstanding. One of our fine Olympians had just finished the shooting competition when he ran into Mr. Lochte at a gas station. The shooter wanted Mr. Lochte’s autograph. He reached into his pocket to get a pen, but as he did it, he had to put his rifle in his other hand, and –

Q. (redacted)

A. No, I don’t know why Mr. Lochte gave up his wallet, or why his fellow swimmers got down on the ground. I can only assume that, like the rest of our fine, drug-free Olympians, they are charitable fellows who enjoy doing push-ups."
