Angelique predicts a 10-2 season

I know, I know. Predictions are like assholes. Everyone has one, and they're all full of shit.
But this is Angelique, who is probably more in touch with this program than a vast majority of the beat writers in the traditional media. She has us dropping games at Iowa and at the toilet bowl down south.

There was a mod deleted post I was replying to that basically said that Angelique's opinion isn't worth taking seriously because she's a woman. Probably could only see it on the app.

I'm scared to ask about just what the hell happened here. Somebody got caved, but I'm not sure I want to know what for.

I'm embarrassed you posted that.
What exactly, isn't sexist then? Air? Water?
That post makes me want to retch. PC please go home!

Uh no. In Vegas you are betting against a spread that is expressly intended to even the odds/bets.
I have them at 11-1, losing to ohio again. Don't see us losing to Iowa this year.

I agree with Angelique. I want to go with 16-0 Whooo Hooo National Champs, but I see it the same way: a victory over Sparty, one loss to a quality BT West team and a close loss to OSU.
i would be fine with that. If Sparty gets put back in their place and the incrememnt between OSU and Michigan shrinks, next year at home will be the time for Michigan to get back on track against OSU.
That being said, I will be screaming for Michigan to win every game this year. I hope I am wrong and they go undefeated. And a surprise "year too early" road victory over OSU would be the best thing that's happened to the team in a long time.

MSU will be a better team than both Iowa and Wisconsin. They also hate us with the fire of 10,000 suns so they will play mentally tougher against us than probably anyone else on the schedule.
I really can't see us winning in East Lansing, but losing to Iowa/Wisconsin. If we win in EL, we're going at least 11-1.
Only way I see we go 10-2 is losing to both rivals, which would make this season a failure; really don't think that'll happen and hope to god it doesn't.

Do you say the same thing about Brian when he makes predictions?

You keep using that word.
I do not think it means what you think it means.

She was surprised last year. I'll bet she's downright giddy this year, but she'll err on the conservative side because she ain't no fool.

Very good point. Everyone thinks Iowa is going to be so tough at that game this year. They weren't anything special last year as far as I'm concerned. Just knew how to finish out games. IIRC, didn't they lose a ton of talent and key players off of that team also? They won't be any better. Michigan is going to be quite better this season than last. You can count on that.
August 14th, 2016 at 3:07 AM ^
They also keep a fair amount of talent, including (crucially) their quarterback. It's a night game. In Iowa.
I think we are good enough to win, but we are kidding ourselves if we think it is going to be a walkover. Road night games against good teams are just plain hard games for anybody. We struggled against Minnesota last season, a much worse team, in those circumstances.

Early on, he had an amazing 3 year stretch (2002-2004) going 11-2, 10-3 and 10-2. Since then, he's had two 11 win seasons (7 years apart) and the rest have been bad or medicore seasons.
Looking at Iowa's favorable schedule, it's hard seeing them NOT having another good year. They play 3 cupcakes in non-conference, they don't play either Ohio State or MSU, all of their big games are at home (Michigan, Nebraska, Wisconsin).
Their four road games are at Rutgers, Purdue, Minnesota and Penn State.
There's really no excuse for them not to have at least a decent season with that schedule.
August 13th, 2016 at 9:12 PM ^
Define good. They pulled out consecutive seasons of 11,10 and 11 wins in the early 2000s under Ferentz. But I mostly agree. Iowa had a number of pretty flukey W's in close games last year. They actually get a lot of their production back this year, so they probably will be about as good last season. Assuming they don't get really lucky again, that will only translate to 7 - 9 wins. We will be favored, but likely one of those games we could still drop on a bad day.
August 13th, 2016 at 8:31 PM ^
Reasonable. 1-2 vs. 2-1 in the big three games is a tough call. I'm leaning toward 2-1 for an overall 11-1 regular season, but I think 10-2 is far more likely than 12-0.

You and your.........LOGIC!
Where is the fun in that?
August 13th, 2016 at 8:34 PM ^
This season would be an unmitigated failure. Not that Harbaugh and Co. care what I think, but an 11-2 season would feel so hollow if the two losses were the only games that really mattered.

While no one could reasonably expect them to win every game against the rivals, if he doesn't win those games on at least a semi regular basis, we've got a real problem. Beating Ole Miss in a Sugar Bowl pales in comparison to besting OSU to either make the title game or ruin their chances of getting there. That is our season's gold standard.

I mean even Brian only predicted 8 wins. It's all about managing expectations. Nobody effin knows. Don't need to hate on her for being one of the many "experts" who gets these predictions wrong.
August 13th, 2016 at 11:16 PM ^
Well, if that was a season prediction then he was only 1 off, so that's pretty good.
August 14th, 2016 at 5:37 AM ^
But is being two off really, really bad?

Pffftt - f that.
August 13th, 2016 at 8:38 PM ^
There's no hot take here. 10-2 accounts for many risks in the upcoming season: Grant Newsome not working out at LT, an injury at OL or LB or S, unproven QB situation, night game at Kinnick, OSU is still loaded with talent, etc...
