What do College Coaches Think of Harbaugh?
ESPN played a word association game with various coaches: http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=17272086

LOL his face! looks like he has a little PTSD from the citrus bowl
"come on guys, what can i really say?"

Props to Urban Meyer (and Larry Fedora) for not being too big of a pussy to say something positive. That said, it is word association, so when you're afraid or intimidated by someone, your initial association with them isn't positive. I'd be a little embarassed of my coach for this video if I was anyone other than a Buckeye fan, especially if I'm a fan of Florida, Auburn or Ole Miss.
August 11th, 2016 at 11:31 AM ^
Does that mean that Urban isn't afraid or intimidated by Harbaugh? I guess it's easier for him to pretend Harbaugh isn't a threat since they won handily last year, but I wonder what he will say about coach after they lose multiple times in a row.
August 11th, 2016 at 11:34 AM ^
Yeah, it might mean that. It could be because Urban is the only coach in that video who has actually beaten Harbaugh, or it could just be that Urban is the best coach with the best program of all the coaches in that video, so he has less reason to be concerned. I think it's both.

We shouldn't be talking about Urban's opinions until we beat MSU and OSU.
August 11th, 2016 at 4:21 PM ^
Oh you wait there my good man. Urban will feel the pressure when the lunatics in ohio call for his head after a second straight loss.
August 11th, 2016 at 3:34 PM ^
Honestly, I think its just the fact that Urban has had the most practice. He's probably been asked about Harbaugh probably fifty times in the last year and half, and simply gave the same canned answer he always gives.

Sooooo much Fear of Harbaugh in that video. It's as present in their faces as it is on college football message boards around the internet. Love it!

"Don't have an opinion" -Gus Malzahn
i.e "I'm too much of a coward to say it on the record"
Honestly. Bitter about having to work during the summer for his seven-figure salary.
My heart bleeds.

I kind of feel like Meyer and Harbaugh are trying not to step on each other's toes for whatever reason(s). I might even say they do not dislike each other.
August 11th, 2016 at 11:30 AM ^
They are very clearly rivals, there's no doubt about that, but in the bigger picture they're also on the same team. When it comes to NCAA rules or who gets bids for the playoff or a handful of other things, Harbaugh and Meyer will be on one side and all of those other guys with be on the other. Not only that, Meyer and Harbaugh have to see each other somewhat often.
Those other guys have none of that. They just fucking hate him.
August 11th, 2016 at 11:37 AM ^
No, I think they're just being adults about it, unlike the SEC coaches. You can have respect for someone as a coach and still hate and want to beat them. I hate Urban Meyer with a passion unknown to mankind but I can still respect him as a coach and can recognize that he is one of the top coaches in the game today.
If Harbaugh has a chance to run up the score on OSU, like he did to USC in 2009, don't doubt for one second that he wouldn't do it.. I'll leave you with my favorite Harbaugh quote...
“I want to put 50 on these motherf***ers”

I think there's a lot of enemy of my enemy is my friend going on. There's the obvious hatred with the rivalry but they respect each other as coaches and have a common enemy in the SEC as a whole.
August 11th, 2016 at 11:16 AM ^
The SEC/ACC clowns were speechless. You could see how pissed they were.
August 11th, 2016 at 11:17 AM ^
I think it's fair to say that we don't have to ask what Jim Schwartz thinks about him.

When prompted the other day Harbaugh also said respectful things about Meyer too. So as much as the PROGRAMS hate each other, it seems like the two actually have a cordial relationship with each other. Time will tell if that continues if/when Harbaugh starts chipping away at OSU Big Ten dominance in real & measurable ways.
As for the SEC guys, it's basically a mixture of truth--Harbaugh IS an odd duck--but also fear/intimidation/resentfulness that he's in the process of upsetting the apple cart. They have a REALLY good thing going. Getting paid millions, barely having to go outside of their area to recruit top ranked HS kids, raking in the revenue for the teams b/c football is basically another secular regligion in the South, etc.
At least when it's Dabo vs. Saban, or Saban vs. Fisher, or Smart vs. Malzhan, it's guys basically in the same cabal. Harbaugh simply isn't a Goold Ol' Boy. He's a Yankee, and an eccentric & aggressive one at that.
August 11th, 2016 at 11:27 AM ^
Malzahn seems like an assclown. Respect for Meyer in having the same reaction when asked these dumb question as Harbaugh to him. They definitely have a mutual respect.

We can beat Ole Miss in the CFP semis and Alabama for the title. That way, all the SEC haters can STFU about how hard it is to play SEC teams on a weekly basis.
August 11th, 2016 at 1:19 PM ^
Yeah, but that means two SEC teams make the playoffs, which would piss me off for more than one reason. There should never be two schools from the same conference in a four team college football playoff when there's already a conference championship game to decide who's the best of the conference (essentially step 1 of the playoffs).
Other than that, I see the point you were trying to make.
August 11th, 2016 at 11:34 AM ^
Can anybody imagine Harbaugh dodging this question if asked about another coach?
Anybody teaching football would get an enthusiastic response from Jim. Hell, I'm getting enthused just THINKING about his enthusiasm.
