Matte Helmet available to purchase
But, I would wait until they update the bumpers and chin straps before you put this in the collection.

I'm still not getting why people are insisting that a helmet paint scheme that is definitely NOT matte is matte. Even people like Baumgardner who write for a living and should care about word meanings.
The word "matte' has a meaning. It means "flat, without a shine." These helmets have a shine to them. They finished in satin, not gloss or matte.
Thunderball sounds cooler than matte. If we are going to use the wrong word, let's use "thunderball." Using the term matte just makes people think the finish is matte, which is, of course, dead wrong.
This helmet is for display only. It is not intended to be worn or used as a protective helmet.
For $330?!?!?! Fuck that.
I bought a Ravens helmet for my cat. He hasn't complained, but he can't read the warning either, so there's that.
He is a Lions fan, but only wears a paper bag on his head for their games.

No, he uses massage therapy to eliminate migranes and lessen the catcussion symptoms.
You planning on wearing it for some reason?
But for $330 I should be able to. I'm not in the habit of spending that much money on paperweights.
You managed to snag an extra point in a sneaky way.
You too!
Me too!
Whoo Hoo!
Damn, I was hoping no one would notice!
Correct. I have an older Riddell authentic helmet and the stripes and wings are decals. Edges of the decals need occasional re-affixing. It looks "authentic" from afar, but is far from authentic.
That doesn't appear to be the same. They changed the chin strap to blue.

The picture in the OP's link really highlights the contrast . . . the dark blue chin straps and bumper on the new helmet versus the old helmet make it look really bad ass.
Contrast this:
Versus this:
Awesome!
this comparison makes the $330 replica seem really really bad for a replica. Everything is off. Could this be a replica of an Addidas inspired helmet?
I don't think it's a current replica at all.
Somebody is taking an old picture that seems a little "matte-y" and assuming therefore it is a replica of the current helmet.
But other than the sort-of matte-y part, there is nothing about it that is current - the chin straps, the bumper, the color of the maize wings - nothing.
I would save your money and wait until the real thing comes out.
+1 insightful
Fans Edge has a cool M display case...

Not to be that guy, but that doesn't look like the new shade of Maize. I'd wait for a new one.
My mother in law bought me this helmet for Christmas in 2014. I can confirm the wings are decals and not paint. I know it says, "Authentic" but it really isn't. Also, as some other helmet nerds may know, on the real helmets the yellow is actually applied first so it should be underneath the blue. The blue on this helmet is also NOT matte. So for those of you looking for the new helmet, keep on searching. Having said that, the helmet does look really cool on my mantle. I have been known to put it on after 10-12 beers on a Saturday afternoon...
I just pulled that site up on the Way Back Machine, and that exact same image has been up since October 17, 2015, so this has definitely not been updated to reflect the helmet design that first appeared this week.
You have to go back to 1977 to see the current shade of maize.
I'm good either way.
As a married man years of ducking frying pans and rolling pins definitely created a need
Ha, that's what they used to say about Viking helmets. Who's laughing now?
