OT: Official: "The Special One" signs contract to become next Man UTD Manager
After getting it wrong in the previous two manager selections I finally think Man U has got it right in hiring Jose Mourinho. One of the best managers in the world (not a has been or an up and comer) who has won everywhere he has gone.
It will be interesting to see how long it takes him to turn things around and whether he is given the time to do so if if doesn't happen over night. With Pep moving in next door it should add a lot to the derby over the next several years if either of them can stand to stay in one spot for more than a couple of years.
With the multitude of top notch managers moving in and the underdog puling off the impossible this year I'm very excited with what's going on in the EPL.

Remember that he will have to manage against Pep, with whom he doesn't hold a favorable record. Also united need a lot of work before they can contend again. If they make the champions league next year that would be ana ccomplishment
Whats the over/under on how long he stays there, 3 years?
Shut up, Sven!
Mourihno is a top level coach. He succeeds everywhere he goes.
wasn't that the same argument they made for Van Gaal?
I think he will do very well at Man U, but still be out in less than 3 years.
This is one more reason to hate Man U. I didn't really need another one, but still ... it's nice to have.
and I couldn't agree more. Can't wait to see next year's games with Jose and Klopp on the sidelines
Who the eff are Man United?
Who the eff are Man United?
Who the eff are Man United?
And the Reds keep marching on
I can't stand Jose and definitely didn't need another reason to hate Man U.
YNWA
My baby takes the morning train
He takes another home again
To find me watching the Manchester United football team!
The best freaking team in all the land!!!! WOOHOOO!!!!
Get it right people
It'll be interesting. LVG had built a young core for a future team. Morinho isn't exactly known for his use and development of young players.
Am I the only one who is wondering what the heck this thread is about ????
EPL = English Premier League, the top soccer league in GB.
Pep = Pep Guardiola, a historically extremely adept manager hired to coach Manchester City, one of two EPL clubs based in Manchester.
Mourinho = José Mourinho (because he's Portugese, his name is not pronounced "hoe-zay" but instead is pronounced "douchebag"*). Mourinho was the fairly successful and perpetually dour and crushingly boring manager last season of underachieving and dysfunctional Chelsea. He had great success at Chelsea at first, until his team had locker room issues that the Dolphins' Richie Incognito called "really toxic and unprofessional".
Man U = Manchester United. Mother Theresa once said "if Man U were playing the Nazis, and it went to a draw, I'd call that a fair result". Pope Francis was more direct - "Man U? Fuck those assholes! Jesus pulls for Liverpool, so should all good people of earth."
You're welcome.
*This really has more to do with a family tradition or something. I'll check on it. But the pronunciation point is spot-on.
+1 because douchebag needs no translation.
-1 for Ohio State....Fair is fair.
I still pos-banged because funny is funny.
Also, Jesus being a Liverpool fan could actually explain Everton's last two seasons.
It's worth mentioning that the whole of the old testament support Spurs
+1 for COYS!

It's always going to be that way. It's okay for an NFL coach or NBA coach to bomb their first season in charge. They'll get rewarded with a top pick in the draft and a chance at selecting a future star. In soccer, you bomb your first year and you might be out of the first tier and lose a decent amount of your good players. There's more money and prestige at stake in a single season in soccer, so bad results are going to be tolerated less. There's very few "rebuilding projects" in soccer. Few teams are afforded the opportunity to do that. Rebuilding projects are common in American sports and often successful.
This is why European soccer is my second favorite sport behind college football. So much at stake every week, the games are short, 2 hours, no commercials, drama every week. Euro soccer shits on NFl, MLB, NHL all day long. I'll give NFL and NHL a little love during playoff time, but I would much rather watch soccer any day of the week.
Arsenal pushes it way up singlehandedly.
...it's not hard to dislike ManU (the Yankees of the EPL) but I must admit a soft spot for Mourinho since his days at Porto (of which I've followed for awhile. I never like his team's style of play (not beautiful by any means) but I thought his interviews and overall schtick were a great addition to the EPL. It is very (very) weird thinking of him on the other sideline vs. Chelsea.
What do you mean by the Yankees of the EPL? Do you mean they buy their way to the title, because that is absolutelynot the case. Few clubs have a better history of bringing players up through their youth academy than Man U does. You want the Yankees of the EPL look across the road to city who literally have bought their way to the top. Lots of lazy fans believe this and its crap. Sir Alex has a long history of bringnig players up through the ranks of the academy, not buying championships. Dislike them all you want, makes no difference to me, but at least find a real reason.
Yeah I consider Man U in the same boat as the Yankees and Cowboys. It isnt about buying players. Its about the ridiculous amount of bandwagon fans that have absolutely nothing close to a tie to the club or city. I realize most Americans aren't going to have a direct tie to an EPL soccer club. That said you don't see many people running around declaring their love for Crystal Palace or Queens Park Rangers.
Better hire... Mo at ManU or Rafa at Newcastle?
I find it so hard to feel empathy for professional atheletes who are going through work-related difficulties. There's something about collecting that massive salary that just takes all the desire right out of me.
No doubt about that, I like Mata's game, he got a raw deal at Chelsea and has been pretty good at Man U. He will probably be forced out. His biggest difficiency is that he doesn't track back on D. I did see him do that more as the season came to an end, but have to feel that his days are numbered. But hey, the magnificent nose, Zlatan will be coming, with massive ego still in tact.

That one of the three most fiscally-blessed clubs in the world that can go out and buy the A+ list of the best players chooses to hire a defensive and system-oriented coach. IMO, it's either going to be a wild success or a spectacular failure. Personally, I think Giggs would have been the better hire in the long run.
As an Arsenal fan, I'm more concerned about Pep at Man City with that huge budget at the moment.
I love to hate Mourinho but the Premier League is better with him in it.
It's a great hire. LVG would have had a much better year next season but never got the chance.
Never thought I'd see the day.
So he's basically semi-German.
I've never seen a guy in European football get pushed and not fall down like he got shanked
I would not have been surprised if one (or both) of them pulled out a shank. Hell, I kinda expected it.
As a Man City fan, I love this hire. In no shape, way or form does the hiring of Jose frighten me. Great manager, but a guy who shows a complete lack of sportsmanship, never takes the blame for his teams failures, badmouths other managers. It's going to be great seeing the battles between City and United. It's going to be heated and intense as the rivalry should be. City has had the clear advantage the last 4 years, but United have made up ground in the last year as City has slipped a bit. It's going to be an interesting summer to see who stays and who goes. I see City clearing some room for some young blood. Love Yaya, but he is well past his prime. Zabaleta, Clichy, Sagna, Kolorav are all expendable. Need some help in the back and a holding midfielder to compliment Fernandinho. Silva needs to return to form, and Sterling needs to improve, but Aguero is the class of the league, and Debruyne might be the best overall attacking playmaker in the league. It will interesting to see some of the players get a Harbaugh bump in ability just by being under Pep's guidance. Great hire for Man U, you guys will probably get Zlatan, and some good players that will want to join up. Should be fun!!!
This will surely help the rivalry moving forward (even if just in a the short term).
I love this for MCFC and me personally.
Mou is a very polarizing guy, and I can't stand him (whiny) and hate Chelsea even more. The fact that he can take his horrible personality tactics to our rival ManU is great!
I do not hate ManU as much as Chelsea, but Mou's hire is going to really push them up in the hated realm for me.
