OTish - Story of when Jim Harbaugh punched Jim Kelly
I'm a big Jim Kelly fan. . . but he shouldn't have said what he said. He broke the bro' code.
You should never punch a bridesmaid. Especially not a perennial bridesmaid.
I love Harbaugh to death but Jim Kelly was a much better quarterback, it's not even close.

As someone who didn't know the story it sure sounds like Kelly is at fault. To retire because of how bad you're injured then to claim someone else isn't really getting hurt is pretty bush league.
That said, it's easy to see why 2 competitors came to blows over this. I like that Harbaugh wasn't upset that he hit Kelly, rather he was upset that he broke his hand.
even with a broken hand.
is that unless you're Rougned Odor, closed-fist punching is dumb. Use the heel of your hand and your forearm near the elbows. Fingers are fragile.
At least I think that's the only lesson here. It's been a while since I listened to Kenny Rogers' Coward of the County but that was what I took away from it.
I still have no idea how Bautista stayed standing. He has one hell of a chin.
I mean, you could practically see his brain sloshing back and forth after the punch. How the hell he stayed up is just amazing.
A lesser athlete would have gone down.
Agreed totally. When I get "punching" mad, I always just elbow the desk.
“I’ve heard he’s telling people I never hit him, but I don’t know why he would say that. I would assume he knew what happened, since we were both there..."
This one quote proves to me that was, indeed, Jim Harbaugh talking! I can hear him say that now... LMAO!!
I love everything about this story.
“I broke the bone while hitting him,” Harbaugh told Albom. “I’ve heard he’s telling people I never hit him, but I don’t know why he would say that. I would assume he knew what happened, since we were both there. On the way to the elevator, I felt my hand swelling up immediately.”
Someone mentioned it above as well, but I also laughed here because this response is so very Jim Harbaugh. It pokes at Kelly and doesn't apologize in the slightest and at the same time describes the consequences suffered in the attempt. Actually, the entire account which he gave to Albom is something you can hear in Harbaugh's voice, which makes it incredibly entertaining and yes, entertaining at the expense of Jim Kelly.
how else would 1 man hit another man??? With an open hand???? LMAO
That open hand palm will break your nose!

The OP's title seems correct, unlike some of the people in the story who called this a "fight". Not much of a fight at all-it seems Harbaugh punched Kelly and that was it, that Kelly never fought back. Which is why Kelly "doesn't remember" what happened. For a tough guy Kelly looks soft.
I always hated Jim Kelly, he seems very punchable.
The way he is venerated in Buffalo for a guy who wanted no part of that town or team for so long always seemed pathetic. Granted Buffalo sports fans are just the saddest people on earth
I remember when this went down. Having been a Harbaugh fan my entire life this only solidified his place among sport diety.
