OT: Talking Cars Tuesday - We're Back

Submitted by JeepinBen on

After a hiatus, we're back. Just like the Camaro.

Speaking of comebacks - what's the one vehicle that you would love to see a "new" version of? There's a Swiss company that's working on a new Issetta

Did you have a GREAT old car that you'd love a brand-new version of? Figure the company didn't die/get absorbed/etc. Think of comebacks like the Ford GT 40, etc. Anyone want a new TransAm? Think of cars they DONT make anymore - don't tell me you want a new CJ-5 - you can (essentially) get one.

I thought about getting the R but it wasn't worth the extra $$ for the kind of driving I do (from school to baseball games to the grocery store). I liked the AWD part, but no sunroof. Maybe in my next life.

Love to see a Supra again. Or a true RX-7 from Mazda. Why they won't put a turbo on the rx-8 I've no idea.
Sad to my heart the Lancer Evolution is going the way of the dodo.
Would also love to see new Lancias or Panteras. They were awesome cars way ahead of their time.

Triumph Spitfire (but one that actually ... worked).

Audi Fox (the U.S. version sold in the 1970s, not the Euro version - similar in style to the also-excellent BMW 2002).

Pacer (posted above as a joke, but I loved that car - again, it would have to actually work).

Buick Wildcat (buddy had a 1968, and it was just fantastic - total Q Ship).

Also, Duesenberg . . . i'm sure they'd make it like a Maybach but still.  It would be cool to see that name with that luxury rolling down the street.

Finally, it's only a few years gone, but I love Lincoln Town Cars.

Upvote sir!

Though in my opinion, to be honest, we do have cars like this with the Chevy SS. No Turbo, but still.

Part of what made the GN special wasn't just the speed, it was the speed in an era when most other cars were 'quick'.

Nowadays most sedans are hitting 7 second 0-60s.

If you were going to do a modern GN... maybe pick a Malibu and throw in a twin turbo V-6.

When I was a kid I read a book called, I think, Carrol Shelby's racing Cobra. They outlined the Cobra Daytona and its campaigns. I think that car is gorgeous.

Shelby Charger (emotional pick from my youth)

Omni GLHS (ditto)

4wd Eagle wagon

Jeep Cherokee XJ (with 4.0 litre)

Honda Prelude

McClaren Capri, with crazy orange stripes.

Mustang SVO

Early 70s Cadillac Eldorado convertible with the 8.2 liter V10.

Porsche 944

Porsche 928

I had a 4wd Eagle wagon - it looked pretty good but quality was crap. It was a fun car - I guess the modern version might be a Subaru Crosstrek?

I thought I was the only one who liked 928's (referred to as the Doctor's wife car).

I always liked the look, and as a kid imagined myself touring in the 928. I didn't know about the doctors wide thing though. :-)

The eagle did have crap quality, but it was a neat idea with good ground clearance.

Subaru is a worthy successor. I wish they made some with a lo range option though

Me, I'd love to see a revival of some old, long-gone company like Studebaker.  The Avanti was the kind of car American manufacturers don't really make any more - small, high-performance luxury.  Kind of like the soon-to-arrive BMW M2.

Also, I know of no plans to drop the top on the new Conti, but dammit they should.

'65 GTO.  1969 Camaro RS/Z28 (not the current remake, but the real thing).  1970 Buick Gran Sport.  1966 Corvette 427 with tri-power and factory sidepipes.

I obviously love 1960s muscle cars.  It's fair to say though that except in a straight line, most of them looked better than they drove.  Amazing how far auto technology has come since then.

Mustangs have had them since about 2010 or 11 or thereabouts.  Also it's possible, at least with older Mustangs, to buy an aftermarket sequential taillight harness.  I put one in my '06 and I love it.  A couple times I've seen things like grandpa/grandkid in my rearview mirror pointing them out to each other while I wait at traffic lights.  Very strong incentive to actually use my turn signal.

makes it to production. I'm not a huge fan of the camero looks, but can't deny it's amazing engineering. If you add this style, to that performance, this should be a player in the sports car luxury market

I own a Dodge Challenger Scat Pack which is a great throwback muscle car. Wagoneer would be similar in the big SUV class.

I saw someone mention the Honda Prelude earlier and i agree.  My first car was a Prelude and i loved that thing  Quick and fun to drive.

Also nice to see that Acura is bringing back the NSX.  Though i'm not really in the market for it, that was always one of my favorite "supercars".
