Sunday BBall Conf. Champs Thread
Final day of championships on tap.
ATLANTIC 10, 12:30, CBS: St. Joseph's 87, VCU 74 Final
SEC, 1:00, ESPN: Kentucky 82, Texas A&M 77 Final/OT
SUNBELT, 1:00, ESPN2: Arkansas-Little Rock 70, Louisiana Monroe 50 Final
B1G, 3:00, CBS: Michigan State 66, Purdue 62 Final
AMERICAN, 3:15, ESPN: Connecticut 72, Memphis 58 Final
Rooting interests: St. Joseph's (possibly knock VCU out), Arkansas-Little Rock (keep auto bid from UL-Monroe), Purdue (RPI boost), UConn (keep auto bid from Memphis and RPI boost)
Edit: didn't realize St. Joe's is projected higher than VCU. VCU loss could knock them to the bubble or out.
No, everything MSU does is luck, as if that makes losing to them burn any less :/
Can you consolidate your 30 posts in this thread to just one that says:
"I'm in denial that MSU is a good team because it really bothers me"
um, ok?
I'm not suggesting it's luck. It's just amazing to me how many seemingly 50-50 games he pulls out, especially in March.
I can't stand the guy but I respect him. He's as good as anyone in the country at pushing the right buttons to get his team to peak this time of year - in contrast to his predecessor, Heathcoate, whose teams never seemed to do anything in the tournament, other than when he had Magic.
having more than one "super star" on his team in any given year. He had some great players, but Magic was the only one I can recall that drew so much attention that he made the other 4 appear far better than they were.
Izzo knew to compete annually with the blue bloods, he would have to build a roster like them, and although he's had a few role players that have proven vital to their success, he has pulled in a lot of great talent that sees the floor at the same time. And even when his teams might not match up, talent wise, with some of those he's played in the tournament, there is no tougher team with greater fouces than his Spartans come March.
