3 Minnesota players suspended after one tweets out sex tapes

Just boys being boys. I mean, if these girls didn't want to have their privacy violated, why would they have sex with men???
[Please note sarcasm - please be prepared for insanity to follow...]

Just saying that you are being sarcastic does not make something okay to say
February 29th, 2016 at 11:38 AM ^
that was the very point of his statement, to highlight how idiotic the action was. If you know he was being sarcastic, and you know the sarcasm is intended to highlight what an offensive action it was, why is not OK to say? I am seriously wondering. I don't understand how this statement in this context is offensive.
February 29th, 2016 at 11:47 AM ^
I am not offended by the statement. This reminds me of when somebody made an anti sementic Always Sunny in Philidelphia quote, and then justified it being okay because "it was in a show"
My point is that people often say things and then deflect criticism by claiming they weren't the first one to say it or they were being sarcastic, etc.
February 29th, 2016 at 11:55 AM ^
Sunny in Philadelphia is brilliant at highlighting how ridiculous certain racial, sexist, etc. beliefs are. It is not OK because it is "a show," it is OK because the people they target are the very people holding ridiculous beliefs.

I am reminded of Louis CK's joke that rape is never OK unless there's a good reason, like you want to have sex with someone but they won't let you. He's mocking all the justifications rapists use for their actions by showing what they all really boil down to.

I was being ironical, in that I'd bet we will see responses below that echo those sentiments. I find this behavior atrocious and disgusting.
February 29th, 2016 at 11:47 AM ^
Just because you say that doesn't mean you get to say whatever you want to say to me!
It sure as hell does!
No, it doesn't--
It's in the Geneva Conventions, look it up!

You skipped the "ain't worth a velvet painting of a whale and a dolphin getting it on" part. That is the essence of the quote... ;-)

Coach Richard Pitino said "I have enjoyed my time here in Minnesota and look forward to pursuing other endeavors for which I am remotely qualified."
February 29th, 2016 at 12:30 PM ^
Considering how well the team is doing, his statement should have read "another endeavor".
I bet the Gophers want Tubby Smith back!

I hear you, but it's not quite that simple. These people are very much still in the gene pool

that something non-consentual took place here? Because I didn't see that in the article.
February 29th, 2016 at 12:02 PM ^
No, I think we're just assuming something non-intelligentual took place.
February 29th, 2016 at 12:21 PM ^
That's a safe assumption. I'll have to check out the evidence personally to know for sure though. For science.
February 29th, 2016 at 7:46 PM ^
Maybe I'm naive--I sure as hell don't get out much any more--but this is what I think did not happen here...
"Sweetie, you mind if I put that video up on twitter?"
"No, of course I don't mind. Why don't you put it up on facebook too? I don't want my family to miss it...."

Why in the world would you tweet that?
February 29th, 2016 at 12:52 PM ^
If there's anything I've learned through MGoBlog as a 30-something, it's that people under 22 tend to treat social media with the least possible discretion or filter as possible. They don't see a difference between the real world and the twitterverse. It's frankly sort of amazing.
February 29th, 2016 at 1:09 PM ^
that is mostly because, for the most part, there is no difference between the "real world" and the "social media" world. It is the only world they know. Their world has always consisted of surfing the internet on the elevator. They have grown up in a world where it doesn't matter if you actually had fun doing something, all that is important is that it looks like you had fun on Facebook. It is the real world to them.

It's disturbing. A lot of young people literally don't know how to entertain themselves without their phone in hand.
