OT- Favorite Music Genres
I know, I hate OT season as much as the next guy but to keep up with the spirit of the board today and with an hour until Northwestern gets their asses kicked (hopefully) I figured I'd add my two cents.
- What is your favorite genre of music and why?
- Specific bands?
- Hopefully better than Pop Evil and their horrendously lame song they did for UM?
- (Sorry for bringing that up)

I like lots of types of music but mostly listen to metal. Current favorite band is Fallujah.
I also like The Contortionist, Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, Amon Amarth, Woe of Tyrants, (old)All That Remains, Wolves at the Gate, Machine Head, Archspire, Animals as Leaders, Tesseract, Skyharbor, etc...
I love everything the Deftones and Sevendust have ever made.
Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Hole...
Ella Fitzgerald is the greatest.
I enjoy Bjork, Dido, The Cardigans, Gus Gus, Weezer, Adele...
I am not a big fan of Nickelback.

Death metal
Psychodelic
Jazz
Accoustic
"Classic Rock"
Rap
Dubstep/Trap/All that kinda stuff
Pretty much most genres except country music cause I find it god awful
February 24th, 2016 at 7:51 PM ^
I don't really have a genre. My absolute favorite stuff is probably Radiohead, Velvet Underground, New Order, Interpol, old U2, Cypress Hill, The Clash, and then a weird French bossa nova cover group called Nouvelle Vague. But I mostly listen to downtempo electronic stuff (Thivery Corporation, Four Tet, Up Bustle & Out, and Bonobo being among the most prominent in my collection) and then various Latin artists (Bossacucanova, Gotan Project, et al.). I visited Portugal last summer and got into fado, so I listen to a lot of that now too (Dead Combo is my favorite fado group that I have discovered so far).

I am into rock and alternative, although I will listen to anything except country and hardcore rap. Sometimes I feel like everyone has turned into a country fan and it drives me crazy. I don't really have a favorite band but I listen to a lot of Rise Against, Avenged Sevenfold, Billy Talent, Atreyu, Smile Empty Soul, and Shinedown.
February 24th, 2016 at 7:56 PM ^
I listen to anything from the Dave Brubeck Quartet and Miles Davis, to Rodrigo Y Gabriela, to Mos Def, Rage against the machine, Led Zeppelin, and old school gangsta rap etc. Hell, I even dig drum and bass, and dubstep.
BUT, my favorite is still the soundtrack of my childhood: Hardcore Punk.
Bad Brains, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, etc.

OP, are you from the hometown of Kiante Enis?
February 24th, 2016 at 8:14 PM ^
Not exactly. But I live nearby. My dad used to play football with Curtis and actually babysat Kiante a few times. We're somewhat family friends with the Enis family.
February 24th, 2016 at 8:20 PM ^
That's awesome. I was just curious. I guess that must be disappointing that Kiante is going to Indiana, but at least you'll get to watch him play Michigan sometime.
February 24th, 2016 at 8:34 PM ^
It really is disappointing... I was so excited for him. I still am, but for reasons other than playing for Michigan obviously. I'll be sure to check out a UM/IU game during his career and root for him to have a good game. Just... Not Jordan Howard good. lol
February 24th, 2016 at 8:39 PM ^
Yeah, I know some kids playing in the Big Ten, and I'm in the same boat. It would be cool if they did well individually, but I want them to lose against Michigan.
BTW, my guess is that Enis will end up playing safety (or at least not RB) eventually.
February 24th, 2016 at 9:02 PM ^
I figured he would move to defense at Michigan. At IU it's my best guess he has a good shot at running back. The way you study recruiting I wouldn't be surprised if you end up being right though. Speaking of, solid work as always. I've been visiting your site quite often recently and I appreciate the work you do.
February 24th, 2016 at 9:08 PM ^
Well, thanks. I appreciate your visiting the site.
I don't know how Indiana's whole depth chart looks, so he could stay at running back. He just doesn't look like a great natural fit at running back in general.

I like underground stuff, because I like new sounds. I grow tired of top-40 music pretty quickly. I don't have as much time for listening to music as I used to, but I'm an indie rock, hip-hop, and alternative fan.
The last three albums I listened to are Kendrick Lamar, Avett Brothers, and Muse.
February 24th, 2016 at 8:19 PM ^
Hip-hop, and lots of it. Kanye, The Roots, Kendrick, and Lauryn Hill are my absolute favorites. Also fuck with Game, Killer Mike/RTJ, Chance, Jay Z, Doom, PRhyme, and plenty more.
TLOP is a great album. Fite me.

New Wave, 90s Alternative, and '91 and earlier rap. Rap died in the 90s.

Classic rock, 70's, and 80's of all types.
Classic country and traditional country. I hate the new pop country bullshit.
90's alternative rock and 2000's new rock.
Some metal, like Distrubed.

After that mostly classic rock: Bowie, Stones, Clapton, etc. if it's got a guitar and drum behind it setting a groove I am usually good to go.

Dad Rock.

Mostly Rock and Hard Rock for me. Deftones, NIN, Janes Addiction, Tool, A7X, Rise Against, Slipknot, Failure, System of a Down, White Stripes, Radiohead, Alice in Chains, and the list goes on and on.
I also like the 80's-early 90s new wave alternative bands thanks to my sister playing them all the time when i was very young: Depeche Mode, The Cure, Smiths, Duran Duran, Psychadelic Furs etc.
I don't care for EDM, but i will listen to some Massive Attack or Portishead.
I can't stand Pop, Country or a lot of the new stuff that passes for Alternative.

OP, good on you for Chevelle. They've been one of my favorites since The Red came out - they've probably been the best "mainstream" rock band of the last decade or so. My all time favorite band is TOOL, who I just saw live last month and couldn't have been happier about it. Here's a pretty decent overview:
90s alternative
Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Gin Blossoms, Toad the Wet Sprocket, etc
Rock/metal
TOOL, Porcupine Tree, ISIS, Intronaut, Dillinger Escape Plan, Devin Townsend, Deftones, Filter, Muse, QOTSA, Coheed & Cambria, Riverside
I also branch out to shoegaze, more indie-type rock as well, but the above is the majority of my listening.

Guilty pleasure has gotta be Taylor Swift. Any music by T Swizzle gets the juices flowing.
