OT: Warriors get destroyed by the Trail Blazers

Submitted by Chicken22 on

The Golden State Warriors lost 137-105 to the Trail Blazers. That puts their record at 48-5. After getting destroyed like this, do you think they will break the record for best record in the regular season, set by the '96 Chicago Bulls at 72-10?

Beilein to the Warriors? He'll make damn sure that they shoot even more 3's. He'll probably cut Draymond and sign 31 year old Kevin Pittsnoggle to solidify the frontcourt and maximize the long 2 pointer possibilities. It might be tough to acquire him from his current spot on the Miller’s Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership team in Martinsburg, WV. He's been a starting sales associate for several years now. Pulling him away from his dream will be tough -- “I always wanted to sell cars since I was a kid,” Pittsnogle told Lost Lettermen last March. “I enjoy doing it. It’s something I could do for a long time.” http://lostlettermen.com/pittsnogle-selling-cars-back-in-west-virginia/

I don't know, but statistically they're in good shape. They've played 53 of 82 games (29 to go) and there 24-0 at home and 24-5 on the road. The Warriors win streak at home is something crazy (I think 42 straight). I'm assuming an equal number of home and away games in the season (17 home and 12 road remaining) and I'd assume they lose no more than 2 at home this year. That means the Warriors have 7 losses and they'd need to get 4 more in 12 games to get to 11. I don't see them going 8-4 or even 9-3 (tie) down the stretch. That said, they have 2 games at San Antonio and games at the clippers (next) and okc (end of current road trip), so there are 4 potential losses there, but the rest of the teams are substantially worse and the Warriors would have to go 0-4 in big road games down the stretch.

I don't care about the record.  I just care about the time machine they're apparently building over at ESPN that will allow them to face Jordan's Bulls.

I mean, that's happening, right?  Otherwise it seems kind of silly to not shut up about it for the past several months now.

And talk about what instead? This is a historically great team having a historically great season with the best chance to top the Bulls' seemingly untouchable record that anyone has had in a long, long time. If you're an NBA fan, this is one of the most exciting storylines to follow/watch in a while.

i will confess to not being much of an NBA fan but i at least check the record of the pistons and they are sinking like, pee-stones.   folks said the trade they did the other day was a winner, but once again they got beaten.   are they going to straighten up and fly right, or are the pistons going to tank, as per usual?

They are entering a challenging stretch of 7 games:

@ LAC (36-18)
@ Atlanta (31-25)
@ Miami (30-24)
@ Orlando (24-29)
@ OKC (40-15)
vs. Atlanta (31-25)
vs. OKC (40-15)

The game against LA is tonight. Their record during this strech will probably determine whether they can surpass 72-10. They would have to go 6-1 to remain on pace of the Bulls who were 54-6 after 60 games. If they lose more than 1 game in this stretch, the path to 73 wins would get difficult considering they still have 2 road games against San Antonio (46-9), who is just 3 games behind them. Both games against SA are the 2nd of back to backs. They also have a road game against Memphis (32-22). The remaining home schedule includes games against LAC, Memphis, Boston (32-24), and SA. For what its worth, they also have another 2 games against Portland (28-27) at home.

538 did a simulation on the Warriors' chances of going 73-9, prior to last night's defeat to Portland. They determined they had about a 54% chance of doing it:

I'm guessing that percentage has dropped after the Portland loss.

You could make the case that Portland was not close to being in Golden State's class, and Portland just beat GS by 32. Aside from Orlando, Portland would be the worst team in this group.

I also would not dismiss the Clippers. They are very much in the same class as GS. In their two prior meetings, GS won by 4 and 7.

The Blazers definitely have that potential. They dominated the Cavs earlier in the year by 30+ too. Lillard And McCollum get going and it's rough on any defense.

Was there last night. Dame was unconscious and was clearly pissed off about the whole all-star thing. Curry "only" had 34 and sat the whole 4th. Warriors bench actually let them down.

I sure hope not. Green and Curry are pretty much the worst thing to me in all of sports. Thompson is almost as bad too. I could see them fizzling down the stretch and getting eliminated in the second round. When you act like the world owes you everything because you won one championship you seem to lose sight of reality. The Bulls were fun to watch and Jordan never acted as douche as Curry. I hope the Warriors don't break their record but I don't think I have to worry.
