Jim Harbaugh pairing at Pebble Beach Pro AM
Coach tees off at 9:17 am Thursday at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club (Shore Course). He's paired with Matt Bettencourt (who?). They other pair in the foursome is Jarrod Lyle (who?) and Huey Lewis.

EDIT: I stand corrected. After seeing the comment below stating that the link above is for the 2nd round, I re-checked and the first round tee time for coach is 10:01 am at Spyglass Hill. Same pairings, of course.

Perhaps creepy, but "Picture This" is not a bad album really. I remember it a bit more for the song "Workin' For A Livin'" myself though. Arguably it was the very next album that really started their uptick as a group - "Sports" (the cover art poster for which is in my home office actually - true story). If you can find a copy of the remaster of "Sports", the session takes for the singles off the album are pretty cool.

1) Just because the video is super creepy dudes singing to a sleeping woman in silk sheets doesn't make the song bad.
2) "Picture This" was the best album to come out since "Private Eyes" ( Hall and Oates )
3) I bought both these albums on Rock Band 3, if that helps to explain where I stand on early 80's "Rock and Soul"

I read that whole post like it was Christian Bale talking about Huey Lewis in American Psycho.

Huey Lewis? I guess that makes this news.

Huey will need to remember that in match play, it's not hip to be square.

Betancourt was a regular on the PGA tour from 2009-12, but has played on the tour only sporadically the past couple of years. He has one career win and six top 10 finishes. He's from the Bay area, so it's possible he and Harbaugh know each other from his time at Stanford and with the 49ers.

Phoenix Open. However, his most impressive accomplishment is beating cancer, and by all accounts he's a great guy. Bettencourt is a bit of a journeyman, but all of these guys are good.

Do they put these pairings together randomly? I mean, i know Harbaugh probably isn't the most famous celeb there, but you think he's probably a bit more popular than to be in a pairing with 2 golfers i've never heard of. I understand why you put Huey in there, he hasn't really been in the public conversation for a while. I'd be all for Harbaugh to team up with John Daly. Daly can wear those crazy pants and Harbaugh can go shirtless.

How can you say that - Harbaugh is great at everything... and I heard he invented golf
February 10th, 2016 at 12:00 PM ^
The pros that play Pebble regularly generally pair with the same celeb year after year. Celebs that don't tend to make it every year get paried with random pros that don't have regular partners. Harbaugh has played there at least once in the past as I saw him at Pebble, but he doesn't make it every year.

Harbaugh was paired with Kim Jong-Il for the dicatator's only round and beat him by 2!

There are a fair number of celebs in the field who are there to play specifically with a buddy on the Tour. Or the Tour guy committed to the event right after their buddy committed to the event. Jake Owen is with Speith for that reason, Josh Donaldson with Dufner, Toby Keith and Stricker, Bubba and Mark Wahlberg, obviously Gretzky plays with his son-in-law, etc.
Some of the others they'll assign with tie-ins. Jerry Kelly's a Wisconsin native and he's paired with Aaron Rodgers, for example. And Bill Murray used to be paired with various guys (and they checked with the pro beforehand because not all of them could deal with his antics) but he won the Pro-Am with DA Points (who's an Illinois guy) and Points won the pro title, and they've played together ever since.
So no, not random. I think some of them do get assigned somewhat randomly, but there's a decent chunk of the business guys that are there that get paired with a pro who their company sponsors, for instance.

Bettencourt is a good friends with Jim Harbuagh. Matt is from California and a huge 49ers fans. I ran into Matt at River Falls Planation Golf Course in Duncan, SC in the fall of 2014. He was wearing a 49ers cap so I felt compelled to ask if his boy Jim was going to come home to Michigan. He said "No chance, probably headed for Oakland"
It was right around the time all of us fans were hoping for Jimmer to come home. After that comment, I immediately thought the dream was dead.
Just goes to show that even good friends do not necessarily know what is going on in instances like this. Maybe at the time, it wasn't feasible, who knows.
Matt is a great guy and I will be watching them this week and hope they do well.

I realize you are new around here but we don't refer to Harbaugh as Jimmer, lest you incur some serious downvotes, friend.

That is correct pkatz. Quite certain JH is not from Escanaba.

Funny story about Harbaugh the golfer. I have friend who played with Harbaugh in a golf fundraiser last summer. On the first tee before he hit his first drive, Harbaugh said he didnt know what to expect because he hadnt played golf in quite a while. He then proceeded to hit a drive 300 yds down the middle. One of the players in the foursome said, "I thought you said you weren't any good." Harbaugh replied, "I didnt say I wasnt any good, I just said I havent played in a while." Classic.

Bettencourt is going to shit the bed on the front nine tomorrow, but Harbaugh will do his magic. MB will be better on his back nine, and better in his second round than he was in his first. Coach has a way of making things like that happen.
Generally pairings are the luck of the draw, although big AT&T business partners will get preferential treatment somehow and big time celebrities (think Bill Murray or Jack Lemmon) tend to develop a relationship with a particular pro and do repeat performances over the years. I remember one year Tom Brady played in the same foursome with his dad which was cool.
Unless you're an invited guest of the sponsor, the entry fee for playing in a pro-Am can be gag-inducing. I would expect the AT&T, the Rose Bowl of Pro-Ams, would run over $20,000.

The important thing is that crew is all on Pebble on Saturday. This is by design since the TV coverage is basically limited to Pebble, and this way they have all the celebs on the CBS broadcast on Saturday.

Rasie the profiles of these two PGA golfers.

My prediction is Harbaugh will win the tournament. No, not the pro am, but the ACTUAL golf tournament. Jarrod Lyle is an all around good guy that has beaten back leukemia...TWICE.

This is terrible. Jim Harbaugh should be using this time to be with his family, not playing golf. For the good of the coaches, I hope the SEC encourages the NCAA to put a stop to this.
