All recruits being told to wait as "Silent Commits" until Signing Day

Submitted by Indonacious on

Per Steve Lorenz, it seems as though any future commits will be silent until NSD, when Harbaugh wants to make splash and have all of them reveal their commitment on that day! If true, another unique idea from harbaugh...maybe has something to do with the signing with the stars event?

I have the same jersey. The maize is pretty close but the lettering uses a different fabric that response to light differently.

To the other respondent, I presume you're trying to be funny, but that jersey is not from walmart. It's a replica of the model Michigan wore in 2002-2003.

I love this idea, I hope he does it every year, all year. This will remove all the embarassing drama of adults getting all worked up over the anfractious decisions of high schoolers. If a kid flips to us or away from us, we will never know. And that would be great.

It seems pretty unlikely this would ever be an all year long policy. Asking a 16 or 17 year old kid to keep a commit silent for 6-18 months isn't going to work. Now I could see January and possibly December commits to be asked to hold off as an ongoing policy. Or it is just Harbaugh being Harbaugh and he'll have a brand new idea to make a splash next year.

Harbaugh is doing everything almost the exact opposite way Hoke did.  I likey.  I'm not trashing Hoke...he had his reasons for doing things the way he did.  But...things are a lot more fun with Harbaugh.  He gets what it takes to compete with the Alabamas and Ohio States of the world.

I'm not in it for the fun. I'm in it for the winning.

Granted, this particular effort seems mostly geared to be "fun," but it's fun with a purpose--you build excitement amongst your own players this way, I think, and increase the publicity of the school on a day when a lot of recruits are paying attention. Having Michigan mentioned with the Alabamas, OSUs, and LSUs as the one of the big newsmakers on NSD means that future recruits who are paying attention hear about us in a positive context.

So I'm in it for the winning; this seems like a way to increase the probability of that occurring.
