Wow, I didn't expect it.... will be interesting to see where the Badgers go from here.

That clip WAS from Burke's Sophomore season. We last played Wisconsin in Madison during the 2013-14 season.

Then why was Derrick Walton on the court???
December 16th, 2015 at 9:20 AM ^
#21 is on the bench.
Mr. Yo is confused. This IS the 13-14 team, but that was not Burke's sophomore year. Trey was gone after 12-13.

Yep, my bad. I saw 10 and thought it was THJ. Here's another look at the shot.

He can never be totally evil in my book, he knocked off unbeaten Kentucky and their slime coach in a Final Four game. That counts for something.
Maybe just one of Satan's top lieutenants.

Looks like its become en vogue for coaches to retire in season.

Gotta keep that legacy nice and shiny. Wisconsin is not finishing in the top-4 in the conference this year. No way.

When the mothership calls you've got to go, lest you be stuck on earth indefinitely.

Gard's father was sick and he was taking him to specialists around the country. Ryan held off his retirement until the situation played out (Gard's father passed away in late October).

Thanks for the insight on this. Not knowing this, I had assumed that Bo was setting up a situation to ensure that his heir apparent would get the job by locking the team into an interim coach for a large chunk of the season. Which I suspect is why Bobby Knight retired mid-season, to ensure his son got the HC job.
I've never understood the perception of him as evil. I don't like to watch his team play due to stylistic reasons, but why is he evil.
And a guy that put off his retirement so his guy can tend to his ailing father can't be all bad.
December 16th, 2015 at 11:27 AM ^
due to both reasons you've just laid out. Gard has coached for him forever and I'm sure Ryan wants to see him get an opportunity to prove himself by coaching the rest of the season. Otherwise, I'd guess Ryan would have coached the rest of the season, then retired.

I don't know if people really had a problem with him as a person, other than how he (like Izzo) was good at bullying the officials into some home cooking.

Back?! They've been decent/pretty good for....quite a while now.
And I don't them staying down by any means, either. (Yes, this year may not be a great one.)

But your point's taken anyway.
Wisconsin in the B1G all-time prior to Ryan: 603-739
Wisconsin in the B1G under Ryan: 172-68

A quick look at Wikipedia and it appears that before Bo Ryan took over in 2001, Wisconsin had only been to the NCAA Tournament five times (including the 1941 National Title) and had not won the Big Ten since 1947.
December 16th, 2015 at 11:06 AM ^
was the coach at Wisky before Ryan. Bennet took the Badgers to the NCAA tourney in 3 of his last 5 years and made the FF during the 1999-00 season. While Ryan took them to a level that Wisky bball had probably never been at, Bennett had laid the initial ground work.

Thank you.

Because you and others have a weird infatuation with hating Bo Ryan and ignoring anything else, yea, they were actaully pretty decent before he arrived there. His name was Dick Bennett. He only took them to a Final Four.
Back!?

Like Harbaugh (according to the NFL pundits), didn't Tony Bennett leave his heart in San Francisco?
December 16th, 2015 at 4:41 AM ^
On May 1, 2015, Bennett signed a new contract good through 2024 with annual guaranteed pay of $2.1 million in the first year and 5 percent automatic yearly increases. There is a $3.0 million buyout provision through March 2018

Princeton. He grew up in DC. Nevetheless Georgetown very good college bball job. Certainly over Princeton. Still not an argument for Tony Bennett to leave what he has going at UVA for Wisconsin. Not even ESPN "reporters" are floating that one out there.
December 16th, 2015 at 11:08 AM ^
His dad coached at 3 different schools in Wisconsin from the mid 70's until 2000. I'm going to assume Tony Bennett grew up in Wisconsin.
December 16th, 2015 at 1:23 PM ^
As if that's a reason for him to move to a school that likely won't pay him more and is more difficult to recruit to? Not to mention UVA plays in an elite, new facility and has the current #1 recruiting class (and Kenpom's current #1 team). Yeah makes sense leave all that to rebuild Wisconsin under Barry Alvarez.
