OT: How many days during the week do you drink?

Submitted by Bluetotheday on
I give up trying to figure what is or isn't appropriate. It's football season, what's your best excuse for a drink?

Couple beers a week down significantly. Also did a month sober in August and found out I don't miss booze.
There are a dozen positives and maybe a negative or two that come from cutting back on drinking.

I've been drinking all 7 days of the week for many years.  But there have also been many individual days in there where I did not drink at all.  I rarely if ever drink "too much", meaning bed spins and severe hang over the next day.  I drink for the initial buzz only.  It helps me unwind after work and on the weekends.  But I despise drinking too much and never saw the good in being passed out falling over drunk.  It's all about knowing your limits for functioning at a high level every day and sticking to it.

Usually ~1 beer a night. If it's been a bad day at work, 2. Some days I won't have any, though.

Saturdays I will have 2-4 beers, nice easy buzz. Unless Michigan loses. Then it's more like 5-6 beers. Enough to dull the pain but not so much that I'll be badly hung over the next day. Family first!

Unless I'm off the next traditional work day (and even then I don't do it often), I keep it to Fridays and Saturdays. I will never understand how people can drink on work nights. I save it for the weekend, which makes ma appreciate it more. It's something to look forward to for working hard all week.

If it's a nice craft beer, more often just 1, otherwise more often a couple beers.  Saturday  might be 3, big game Saturday could go 4, but not often.  Some nights nothing, but the norm is 1-2 a night.  Have stretches if I'm not feeling great for some reason when I don't drink anything, but usually that doesn't last too long.  Really enjoy good craft beer.

I'll drink on two occasions. 1) after softball games, because it's part of the experience, and 2) when we visit friends. I'll have a drink with my buddy. Neither of our spouses drink so that's a time we can get together, have a beer and not feel weird drinking alone.

I tried getting into that red wine thing for the health benefits, but I don't care for the taste.

I limit mine to the days that have "day" in it.

It varies - I may have a glass of wine with dinner, or a beer or two a couple nights, maybe Thursday or Friday.

I don't look for excuses to drink, although a celebratory cocktail after a win is usually the norm.

1-2 beers a day mostly. I'll drink a lot during Michigan games, especially close ones. I'm looking at you msu game. But for the most part parties or get together are the only times I'll have more than the norm.

1-2 days a week during football season, probably only a single drink per week the rest of the year.  I'll split a pitcher with a friend at the alumni club gatherings to watch the football games, but for me I've just found I prefer to stay away from any amount that gets me really buzzed or drunk. Too many fun things to do outdoors to be struggling with a hangover.

I think the more important question is:  How many days per week don't you drink. That is a more telling number.

Some of you seem to not recognize the distinction between "have a drink" and "get drunk". A beer / wine with dinner is hardly "drinking", heck in most of Europe a drink with dinner and often lunch is de riguer, and they're healthier than us in a lot of measures.

Anyway, I "have a drink" probably every other day. I "have more than one drink in a day" once a week. I "get drunk" maybe a few times a year.

Mostly I like to home brew and sample craft beer and good bourbon.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines "excessive drinking" as "heavy drinking," "binge drinking," and any drinking by pregnant women or people under 21:

"heavy drinking" = for men, 15 or more drinks per week; for women, 8 or more per week

"binge drinking" = for men, 5 or more drinks during a single occasion; for women, 4 or more per occasion

So, do I need to ask how many of you are "heavy" or "binge" drinkers?? Perhaps the CDC should examine our drinking threads.

Typically once a week, usually on Friday or Saturday.  I'll only get drunk for special occasions- friend visiting from out of town, wedding reception, etc.

I have a beer almost every day, and often have a second on Saturdays or Sundays. I drink to the point I couldn't drive (and I am very conservative about it, Uber is your friend) maybe twice a month.

Every other day.

I allow my self a couple glasses of wine if I have exercised that day, which is usually about 4 days a week. But then I exercise on Thursdays but do not drink that night.

So, I guess it is 3 days a week.
