What do you think of the targeting call on James Ross?

Submitted by FatGuyTouchdown on

Ross was ejected for targeting on a questionable call. Anyone have a real issue with it or was it called by the rules?

Horseshit. If you're going to call that, fine, but then you'd better eject that Northwestern player for the hit on Rudock. It was the same hit, essentially.

I honestly think that was a pity call for Northwestern.

By rule it was targeting... barely. But so was the original targeting call against NW. If one is not the other shouldn't be either. I hope it can be appealed.

I thought it was a bad call .

Isnt there a chance the Big Ten can review it and over rule him missing the first half against Sparty ?

I could have sworn this was an option . But I could be wrong .

I don't like the rule. They say they have enough time to let up but anymore that has played sports at almost any level knows that is hard to do. I think the penalty is fine but I think the league should only review if they see the play should be reviewed more and then suspend the player if they see fit the following game or two.

iffy at best. Yes, they hit helmet to helmet but if one was reversed the other should have been. How quickly they confirmed it on Ross was suspect, IMO. Compare that to the 5 minute delay in debating whether a guy that hit an already slid/down QB on the literal crown of his helmet and it's suspect. I don't see motive of conspiracy or anything but as if they didn't want to reverse another targeting call and/or give back to NW for a few admittedly iffy calls against them (Block in back and an iffy holding call). My question is whether, or rather, who fills in for Ross? Gedeon? Assuming msu runs a lot less shotgun 3-4 wide, would it be Gedeon when we have 3 LBs out there?

I don't know the rule word for word, but to have a guy ejected for the hit he made is absolute garbage. I have seen many "targeting" plays. That was not one of them.

The most egregious thing that happened in that game was Matt (****face) Millen chuckling about people from Michigan (the state) disagreeing with him. The man should be barred by law from ever laughing publicly about his reign of incompetence. With severe penalties.

Bullshit call.  Rudock was hit helmet-to-helmet by a guy who had plenty of time to back off, unlike Ross, where it was virtually impossible to back off.  Rudock was also nicked by a second guy and smacked pretty hard by a third well after he was down and they picked everything up.  The other call where they picked it up was shown by the replay to be a very clear late hit after our player was well out of bounds.
