I'd think urban Meyer was a possible candidate, but his health issue exit at Florida could make the NFL gun shy. Dantonio would actually be a good choice. He's a dbag, but he's done a really good job at state and should leave if offered.

Eleven Warriors has a "Harbaugh to Miami?" thread. I'm resigned to that happened EVERY. SINGLE. NFL. OPENING. I can't get my shorts in a wad, but would be shocked if Harbaugh leaves Michigan any time soon.

Like 100+ comments on this topic already, some funny, many inane (Hey, free content, not complaining)... not ONE person said this dude shoulda been fired 2 years ago after the Incognitio thing.

In any other workplace in this country the person supervising that shit show would've been canned - especially when his results were mediocre at best. Pretty amazing, doesn't speak well of Ross's acumen actually.

So - thank God he steered JH to M instead of pursuing him to fill a job that EVERYONE knew would be open by the time the '15 season ended (if not sooner, as it turns out!!)

Those two "scandals" could not possibly have less to do with each other aside from "Football"...

The Dolphin-Incognito hazing & racism was hardly overplayed, it was swept under the rug and the main perpetrator was hung out to dry, while no one who supposedly supervised the parties was suspended or terminated.

There were a whole bunch of posts on this blog recently fretting about the possible loss of the Mud Bowl because of hazing incidents. I'm going out on a limb and guessing you were one of the people pooh-poohing that hazing should be considered cause to cancel that game, Monkey?

To be honest, the fact that no one in management was terminated because of the Miami incidents (because near 2 years later Philbin has clearly been dismissed because of W-L, not lack of oversight) is pretty amazing. Imagine if something similar happened at your workplace - I'm guessing some heads would roll, and not just the instigator.

I know, I know - we don't work in NFL locker rooms, boys will be boys, all that... still Incognito is a piece of garbage, and no one should have to intimidated and harrassed by a piece of garbage like that. Sorry, full stop.

In "Deflategate" you had questionable science, questionable chain of custody, questionable system of meting out discipline. It WAS overplayed, it WAS stupid, it dragged on until it became a joke - at Goodell's expense as it turned out. But Brady will have to endure taunts of "Cheater" for the rest of his life. I expect poeple to get kicked out of his Hall of Fame Induction for chanting it. And patting themselves on the back for it!

Please don't compare the two, it's just wrong...

Hmm, would Jon Gruden give up his multi-million dollar ESPN contract which involves him only having to work one day a week to go back to coaching in a high stress, 24/7/365 job where if he doesn't get to the playoffs in two years, he gets fired?

I'd take the easy money and stress-free life every day of the year.

Mora makes a lot of sense with his success at UCLA and pro style offense he would make a smooth transistion to the NFL.  Dantonio would also be an excellent hire for the Dolphin's. Just leave our coahes alone a couple years I forgot what winning feels like and this has been nice.

Which is fine. John Harbaugh will bring in a good DC with him next year.

Still trying to figure out if we give him full control or not...

Philbin is the first domino. Maybe after tonight we will finally be rid of Mayhew and Caldwell. One can hope ;)

for college to NFL transitiion. He's always been really flexible with his offenses, and ND fans are absolutely ridiculous with the way they treat the guy who saved their program from nearly 2 decades of shittiness.

Dantonio makes some sense too, but he could end up Schiano'ing on NFL players.

I wouldn't go so far yet as to say Kelly has "saved" Notre Dame.

He's certainly better than Weis ever was, but Kelly has really only had (so far) one good season, which ended with his team getting exposed and beaten mercilessly by Alabama in the title game. Every other year he's gone 7-5 or 8-4, and he's had a full cycle of "his guys."

Now maybe they go win 10-11 games this year, but methinks the injuries catch up to them eventually, and they end the season with 8-9 wins.

Years where they lost multiple starters. I think a lesser coach would have posted 4-8 or 5-7 records in some of those seasons. And you look at how coaches with good backgrounds have struggled at major programs when inheriting a bad/mismatched roster, and Kelly's job following the absolute crater Charlie Weis left is even more impressive in my mind.

Messes fall in his lap, he adjusts and does the best with what he's got. That seems like the sort of thing that projects well to an NFL coach. His demeanor was an issue early on, but he's managed to get that in better control too.

I also think it will be funny as hell if Notre Dame fans Nebraska their way out of the best coach they've had in two decades and end up with someone crappy who puts them right back where they were before Kelly.

The Dolphins have not made a blockbuster move since hiring Saban. Firing Philbin early is a signal that may change. The landscape has changed so much since then (even Mississippi State is paying big money), that I would be surprised if Miami gets a college guy. You coach fewer games, and longer, for as much money, and arguably more prestige, in college.
