Would you like to see alcohol sold in Michigan Stadium

Submitted by Blueblood2991 on

Saw this a few weeks ago that they are doing a study at OSU considering selling alcohol at games.  They would join Maryland, Minnesota, and Purdue as other B1G teams that sell booze.

Would you like to see alcohol sold at The Big House?

The two events at Michigan Stadium that have served alcohol (Winter Classic & Man U vs Real Madrid) yeilded only 3 arrests between them.  The only arrest from the soccer game was for the fan that jumped on the field.

Yes, absolutely. I'd buy in a beverage or two during the first half. My dad regularly reminisces about the good ole days where he could bring a cooler full of beer into the stadium to watch the game.

Long time reader, first time poster.  Now that that's out of the way...I'm all for anything that increased the lines and volume of people at the restrooms.  Urination troughs with triple-stacking instead of the standard double-stacking should be just the trick to make an early September game even more enjoyable.

why not?   It might stop some from loading up prior to the game.  Alcohol is served at all kinds of big rivalry sporting venues with minimal problems.  Besides if it costs 5 bucks for a hot dog you can bet that beer will be 7 bucks for a 12 oz draft.  The higher cost will likely control the urge to over imbibe.

not needed.

Thats just ONE of the things that make tailgates fun.

enjoy with friends before & after.

Plus., all the spilled beer in any stadium just reeks after a while.

I think the gameday experience is great the way it is and much more enjoyable than the NFL experience, and I think that the availability of alcohol is a big factor in that. I like a beer as much as the next guy, but I think it detracts from the college game. However, we really could use some more piped in music, kiss cams, and advertising.

Minnesota has sold beer and wine at TCF Bank stadium for the last two years.  Alcohol-related incidents have actually dropped since the stadium was dry.  However in pure Gopher fashion they managed to be perhaps the first organization in history to lose money selling $8 beers.

Not enough restrooms.  The restroom lines at the Winter Classic were unreasonable.  It woud be even worse on a warm Sept or Oct day.  Plus we don't need the additional fights, arguments, puking, etc that would ensue.

Anyone else remember the 'eye in the sky' guy with binoculars who watched the student section and radioed down to cops in the stands..? I was in Boulder when CU banned beer sales and the amount of booze being smuggled in skyrocketed. You could hear the clinks of empty glass as students came and went from their rows. Personally, I don't think so. An 8 hour tailgate on the golf course is sufficient for me. Beer in the stadium ...WITH NO CUPHOLDERS and very, very cramped seating is a recipe for disaster. That said, I bet you can buy it in the suites right now
