Would you like to see alcohol sold in Michigan Stadium
Saw this a few weeks ago that they are doing a study at OSU considering selling alcohol at games. They would join Maryland, Minnesota, and Purdue as other B1G teams that sell booze.

Would you like to see alcohol sold at The Big House?
The two events at Michigan Stadium that have served alcohol (Winter Classic & Man U vs Real Madrid) yeilded only 3 arrests between them. The only arrest from the soccer game was for the fan that jumped on the field.

Would've been more useful the past 7 years.

My gut-reaction is no, but it probably wouldn't make a whole lot of difference. If people want to be drunk, they will sneak stuff in or just pound drinks at the tailgate beforehand anyway.

From a financial standpoint, this seems like one of the few untapped revenue streams that wouldn't be insulting if it were tapped. I'm indifferent on the question of selling alcohol in the stadium, but I'd sure as hell prefer seeing that over yogurt ads.

We've been having enough problems in our section with drunk assholes the past few years. Nope.

What section are you in?

on stadium that sells alcohol and stadium taht doesn't sell alcohol. They found that people are less drunk when stadium sells alcohol as opposed to the one that don't sell alcohol.
There are always be drunk assholes in every game. That's normal.

The MSU and OSU games would be absolute shit-shows if you supply alcohol to people once they're past the gates.

if you value your dollar, nothing. A sip from a flask >>>>>> $10 cup of MGD

A study at OSU, you say? Hmmm
But actually I'm pretty neutral. If they did sell, I think you'd have to have a cutoff point sometime around the end of halftime.

I think if we could look at the impact introducing beer had at a venue remotely like Michigan Stadium that would be useful. Did Wiscy always sell alcohol?
I can see how it could generate increased drunkenness and even worse aisle crowding, but I can also entertain arguments that the impact wouldn't be that bad.
What we don't need to do is sell beer just to make money.
August 11th, 2015 at 5:54 PM ^
No but what if we could sell beer to reduce costs?
I guarantee if Hackett said we can decrease season ticket prices for everyone by either putting a giant swoosh on the scoreboard, or by selling beer everyone would be for it.
Inflation isn't going away anytime soon; it could help buffer ticket increases.
August 11th, 2015 at 6:14 PM ^
Your guarantee's wrong, because if Hackett said that, I wouldn't support either option, and I'd be disappointed in him for framing it as an either/or.
August 11th, 2015 at 6:22 PM ^
Actually considering how he surveyed the athletes and faculty on the Nike deal, I wouldn't be surprised if he questioned the season ticket holders on that.
So are you telling me you would rather pay more for your PSD and tickets if that meant no beer?
August 11th, 2015 at 6:59 PM ^
Surveying the fanbase is one thing; presenting only two options and saying "you're got to pick one" is another. That's the kind of garbage I might expect Brandon to pull.
There are lots of ways to increase revenue. And beyond that, instead of solely looking to increase revenues for our $150 million athletic program, how about reducing expenditures? Do we really need to spend $20 mill on that rowing facility?

Yes. I'm a beer drinker, but I can't see myself buying an expensive beer in the stadium. I like that it'd be an option. I like to have a few before the game at the tailgate. With how prices are, there's no one someone is going to pound drinks at the game. I don't see it being a problem. If someone wants to get drunk, they would already be from the tailgating.

I'm pretty good about taking it easy, at least until after the game. Being able to have two or three during the game would be nice.

I'd be for this. Help local businesses and I'd rather Michigan be associated with quality brands anyway.

The issue is of course logistics. The Big House is not suited for folks getting up for any reason during the game and coming back--even for admirable reasons, like getting another beer.
This somehow works at the Rose Bowl. But really only for halftime beers.
I suppose I am at "yes, with reservations."
August 11th, 2015 at 5:30 PM ^
Did you really think we just widened the aisles and lost 2,000 seats for "ADA reasons"? No it's for vendors to carry beer.

No. I've been in stadiums where alcohol is sold and in dry stadiums, and the difference in fan behavior is pretty noticeable.

I don't agree with this. I went to CMU and they don't serve alcohol. In my many years, we went to Ford Field for the MAC Championship and Bowl games and the crowd was the same as before. The amount of beer being consumed was less than I thought it would be. The environments were very similar for fans.

Well, if you are going to drink until you puke, there is no better place to do so than that giant toilet bowl of a stadium in Columbus.

the horseshoe would be worth the price of admission.
